He showed this year that he is in the top 6 and needs to be paid accordingly. He's an extra mid fielder when he plays. Our best form coincided with his.
I really appreciated Jeff Whites insight to ruck craft and technique. I hope Kruze is mentoring TDK in the same manner and highlighting these tips and tricks to getting the best advantage 👍🏽 #BigYearForTheNavyBlue 💙
Love the big fella You took the words out of my mouth referring to the other guys taking on long term contracts but agreeing to lesser money I think TDK will follow suit Probably worth a milly on the open market but I reckon he signs on for 800k per year We absolutely can not let ourselves get held to ransom by TDKs manager and try to go dollar for dollar with a team like North or Richmond If he leaves it’s clearly a financially based decision. I can’t see him getting a million a year AND walking into a top 8/4 team
You do not need a super star ruck to win a flag, but you also don't need a super star forward, how many people are trading curnow and harry? Tom is a point of difference and a very highly valued player
Logic dictates , TDK,Charlie , Harry Walsh Cripps Saad ,Cerra , Weitering McGovern, That this Is a Premiership team , and now We have made a positive move we have locked a course , but believe the Magoos must be on the page as the senior side , GO BLUES RARARA
I think he’s worth $1 million a year to Carlton, now maybe you don’t need a superstar ruck to win a flag but if you look at Carlton’s last 8 premiership’s going back to the late 60s we’ve always had one,Nichols Fitzpatrick and Madden,so why not continue that tradition,TDK is our point of difference,we fell away badly last season when he went out injured,so sign him up no matter what I say
I still have reservations on Dekoning due to his ruck style and body type. His ruck style is very taxing. Is he going to be able to give us majority minutes in games and injury free consistency for seasons to come? Even when he marks the ball he flies through the air like a karate expert and crash lands. I’m in the camp of not paying ruckman big dollars. It’s a job that can be done by a big able body with the right attitude. The big dollars should be invested in the speed we need around the contest.
We will sign TDK to a long term deal and its gonna be alot less than he could get on open market. He'll still be well paid for sure. Has committed in house to stay like the others have Go Blues
How old is Pittonet? TDK's athleticism sets him apart. As well as his ruck work, both in the square and around the ground, he goes forward and takes some of the heat off Charlie and Harry. At 25 years of age, a 5 year deal is ideal. As for the dollars, the club and TDK, (more likely his manager), will work through that. With some players moving to other clubs and a few delistings, there may be a bit more room within the salary cap.
It think he's shown in big games they he really steps up and he loves that physical side of the game. I think he's just starting to figure out how to impact games. We need to hang onto him. Pitto is a great second Ruck when he can get continuity in his game but hasn't proven that he can stay fit.
Min 5 year contact with YoY option to extend thereon Agree to reasonable base salary eg $700k with triggers for bonuses if plays X or more games in H&A season, then finals, then awards Start with that and then negotiate TDK is already a top talent and if stays fit can take us to multiple flags!!
It's hard to know. I am not very good at these estimates. I love his athleticism around the ground and he's another tall if Harry and Charlie are tied up and can win his own clearances as well. Not trying to be a smart arse, but the obvious thing is as long as possible on the least amount of money that's fair. 6 years at 700k, 4.2 over that time?
Tez he’s a free agent after 2025 so this is his big contract. If perryman and battle are signing for 800k plus a season Tom is definitely worth 1m especially with extension of CBA and pushing out of salary cap. We just sign him up as we can now with culling of deadwood simple as that. Also he’s more than a ruckman he’s that extra mid and POD that gets our midfield going. Go baggers!
I would be concerned about locking up more than a third of the salary cap on six or seven guys. Any long-term contract will be backloaded as the cap goes up quite a bit in 2027. But do Clubs give these really long deals to free agents they're recruiting or is it just done to keep players on the team? Still, locking up that much money per year means we might have to rely on more young players at base-level salaries than is wise. In any case, I suppose the bar for TDK's contract has already been set with the other guys, whatever the details actually are.
Exactly right we can’t tie the salary cap up on too few players. How much cap are we going to tie up with two ruckman? Both of them are prone to injury. How many years are we going to watch our teams consistency’s fluctuate with ruckman in and out of the side?
@@kirkmayer2623 I expect TDK is going to get 4 or 5 years with a hefty salary, probably even if he takes a bit of a pay cut in accordance with the pledge we've heard about. Surely deserved if we use the other long-term contracts for the big core leaders as the bar. The problem I see coming is what they will have to do when all those guys are out of contract at the end of next year, and either need to be resigned or replaced. Something will have to give, I suspect.
@@Equality-7-2521 The thing is we can’t go paying him as if he’s a premier ruckman or player in the league ,he’s not. His position is also not a hard one to fill. Where as we can’t just go and get a Crippa or a Charlie it takes years. The ruck position doesn’t need to be a highly paid one. I hope I’m wrong and he becomes the player everyone is expecting. That includes consistency and longevity. We need that ruck position to be consistent.
G'day Tez, first thing we can't pay what he'll be worth on open market. What that is I don't know but the certainty is our salary set up means what we might believe a good price is influenced by that, where as a team with plenty and a need will over pay. Length of contract is the wriggle room but others will give long one too. He is really important to us but not enough to ruin us for another decade. Five year co0ntract for sure thats the reality for his talent these days. His not just a ruckman though Tez, potentailly at least. He'll cost yes but not as much as others will pay so if he stays it won't be the money side, it'll be reaching the top of that mountain with the people you spent most of the time with getting their, Go Tez, Go Blues.
5 years at 750-800k/year, back ended to take advantage of the increasing cba. If he wants more years then $$$ decreases. If he wants more $$$ then years decreases
Seriously no one is worth the type of money handed out just to play football. Fireies, ambos, nurses, police, occupations that actually save lives, don't even get 6 figure and these drips (lets be honest if they couldn't play football many would struggle to support themselves - especially those in the B&W striped jumper) I think part of the decline in the game is the money and we see players wanting to leave a 6 year contract (though they're only into the 2nd year) because X or Y is offering more. Serve out your contract! Too much money chasing with little concern of consistent form. The money reaches these ridiculous levels not because the player deserves it or is worth it (no one is - its football ffs!) but is done to prevent said player from being enticed to another club. The vicious circle thus begins. 250k a year should be the ceiling, raised by 10% per year after 5 years of contract and as long as served with same club. This ensures loyalty and a reward for the player who stays and performs well with the initial club.
I guess we have 2 sides of the coin here - heads we give TDK a long term contract on 1.1 million contract per year say 6 years and we have locked away a great ruck or Tails - what do we get if he leaves the club? 2 first rounders we free up 1.1 million a year and we have Pitto as our number one ruck...I think if Carlton can get to top 4 in 2025 then TDK will stay and we will get away with paying him 1.1m a year, but if he leaves someone is going to offer him 1.4 million year to get him out.
4 year contracts tops.....with the current model now we can't invest more in the bulk of our players until 2030.....fark. Curnow not worth his money this year...probably include Walsh in that too. Players these days need a performance-based financial incentive to deliver. ps. this "pact" they made is complete HUBRIS. Such arrogance that they've got a premiership in them if 6 players stay together....
He showed this year that he is in the top 6 and needs to be paid accordingly. He's an extra mid fielder when he plays. Our best form coincided with his.
Fair and reasonable is irrelevant. Pay whatever it takes. Get it done.

I’d pay him whatever it takes. He’s an absolute jet and is crucial for us.
Should be the second highest paid player at Carlton. That’s how important he is to the Blues
You'd have to have Cripps and Weitering ahead in importance, but he's easily top 5 for us.

$1 more than Geelong offer him. Including a clothing contract of course

TDK 700-800k 5 year ... Matthew kreuzer still the ruck coach ??

Losing tom could dismantle our potential sinking ship
what if the DK's swap clubs? Doh! lol
I think he will end up at Geelong
