- I took a stomp across Stanton Moor in Derbyshire, visiting a creepy old forge, the ancient 9 ladies stone circle and the Earl Grey Tower, or 'Reform Tower'.
I was hunting for the site of a WW1 era light railway that was constructed by Canadian soldiers to move felled trees, bound for the trenches of northern Europe.

So beautiful! Enjoyed the cup of tea pun too! The scenery is breathtaking, thank you for the stomp!
Just been around there today. Will get that video up tomorrow hopefully
Thanks for the hike 🙂
I spent quite some time on Stanton Moor about 30 years ago. I remember meeting a group who came to "open up the Earth's chakras" with a ceremony at the Nine Ladies. Looking back, I believe your father was there with them, but I could be mistaken. Magical place.
I'll ask him!
Another interesting walk n talk, I do miss the greenery and history of Derbyshire, but not the weather. It's not changed much in the last 50 years, the area around the stone circle is much as I remember it. Good to see that the video and audio quality is very much better than the first couple of videos.
Cheers mate. Learning on the job!
Hi Gareth, great vid. The Whig Prime Minister refers to the British Whig Party, which was the forerunner to the Liberal Party.
Thank you for this!
That's well worth a visit, right on the doorstep as you say. Old railways are never as you expect them to be, hard enough sometimes visualising the railways you've already taken us along. If you do uncover any further info, be worth doing a follow up video.
That Earl Grey tea joke though 😮🙄🤣
Definitely! Will keep searching!
Hi Gareth, took a walk over Stanton Moor yesterday in search of the old forge based on your video and didn't manage to find it, would have as it was on my mapped route as a small detour but we didn't go as far as planned as we heard voices in the distance. Wouldn't ordinarily have bothered us but we'd already come across a naked lady singing about lovely circles - I kid you not, fully naked and didn't want a repeat of it. We'll be back, and not for the nakedness. Your video's are great, going to watch your latest one now as that's on my local patch and I daresay, I've walked them a lot.
Oh wow! Not your average walk, then! Haha
We visited Nine Ladies last year and went up on the Solstice too, didn't see the forge, but we came from the other way to it. Laughed at the joke haha
Ah yes. It can get the odd bit confusing as there are loads of different caths, and also roads are sporadically closed up that way, so you can end up coming in from different routes!
Look up the Hexham Heads and the Mickleton Hooter (no not that kind)
Great Video again, thanks for taking the time to do it. Cheers
Cheers!
Excellent and Informative stomp. Cheers Gareth
Thank you
Gaz keep bringing it on,absolutely love it!Favorite channel 💯
Cheers mate
Great stuff. Where exactly is that old forge? I can't find on the map....
