10= 4a-2
10+2= 4a
12=4a
12÷4= 4a÷4
3=a

How did you get 3?
Solve the bracket first,you'll get 2
10=a(2)²-2
12=4a (-2 becomes positive when you take it over)
3=a (÷4)

Kevin how is a=3 isnt it supposed to be 2 because 10=4a-2
10-2=4a
8=4a. (Then you divide both sides by 4)
a=2
No . When you transposed the 2 to the side of 10, the sign had to change from a negative to a positive:
10 = 4a - 2
10+2 = 4a
12 = 4a
3 = a

hi i dont know if your checking your old videos comments but u was doing the practice question where you find the equations of the parabola and turn it into y=ax^2 + bx +c when i was doing it i got y=2x^2 +6x+6 i dont know how im not getting your answer im very much confused please help

No it's actually the other way round
When it's shifted to the left, it's positive and when it's shifted to the right, it becomes negative
isnt it y=a(x-p)^2+q ...?
Some textbooks use minus, some use plus :) What you need to know is how to put the values in. So if Turning point is (1 ; -2) then it must say a(x - 1)^2 - 2
If turning point is (-3 ; 5) then it must say a(x + 3)^2 + 5

Why are we saying 3 is negative inside the bracket
the x value always switches signs when it's put into the formula, so if it's a positive it becomes a negative and if it's a negative it becomes positive
