My first time to Europe I deployed to Mildenhall AB as a C-130E engine and propeller maintenance technician. It was 1992, I went to Bury St Edmunds on my day off with friends to see the Abby ruins. We stopped by the airfield as well, it was a great experience for a WW2 history buff

The airmen commemorated here were actually soldiers. The United States Air Force was not separated from the United States Army until after the war, although GA Marshall treated GAF Arnold as more of a colleague than a subordinate. My father joined the Army, was transferred to the USAF at its creation, but was discharged from the Army with the exit rank of "Corporal ... USAF."
