McCluskey is an important and excellent songwriter. This interview reflects my own thoughts about the world today. "Art Is Feeding the Soul". Let us remember those words!

It's comforting that Andy sees clearly what's going on in the world.
He is always giving honest, straight replies on any question he gets, he does't pretend to be someone else.

Big OMD fan since Red Frame White Light. Hope they continue for much longer despite hints that this is the end. Love them live. My fave new era record was History of Modern

Great interview. Andy is very honest about himself and his motivation. He does have a control freak personality - that comes through often - but that is what is often required to create a distinctive style. I agree with what he says about bands who just jam in the studio to see what happens. Best example is Marillion who used to be great but are now a bunch of fat old farts who piss about in the studio for months on end before releasing a bloated mess of lifeless, directionless, pretentious waffle. It's like listening to a slow puncture all day.

I took Souvenir seriously. The video was probably horrible if that is what you meant. Souvenir always reminded me probably of Frank Lloyd Wright as did Architecture and Morality in general.

It is remarkable and unusual for a 'pop act' to return after a long period inactive and create work which rivals in quality its earlier, most well known work. But OMD has succeeded. Sad that some others, such as the Human League, are content to churn out their ancient hits. McCluskey's singing has greatly improved, too. In a 1980 interview (in NME, I think) I remember Andy being depressed because his former Factory labelmates, Joy Division, would have a much greater and longer legacy. That is indeed the case (how many JD t-shirts will you see in the summer compared to OMD's) but they have still a legacy of well-loved music. It could be that JD's music is so personal and emotional, while OMD largely write about concepts and ideas.

I love JD, but they were among the critical establishment's "chosen ones". OMD absolutely were not, and have been criminally downplayed for the last 40+ years. Only in the last few years have they begun to receive some critical recognition for their considerable influence on electronic and alternative music.

They had so many other separate projects.. and reunited to bring about Fresh new energy tracks. I love O.M.D's intelligence and depth, and they can always reminisce on their teenage years together. Can hear Andys Liverpool accent come through now and then.. Love them forever!
