    The trio was begun at thebeginning of WW1 and ended at the end of the war, hence a difference of mood between the movements. The most wonderful is the pantoum, a complex form of poetry from far East, used for instance by Baudelaire in "Harmonies du soir".

      Gérard Begni, Oh my goodness. I did not know that.. I always wondered just why it went from lively to completely depressing. (Mainly looking at Pantoum: Assez vif and Passacaille: Très large.)

      Yesterday, I have read that the trio was endend just at the beginning of WW1, in 5 weeks (readed in letters from Ravel himself sended at several friends and his editor Durand) for the reason that Ravel expected to join the french army. In a first time, Ravel have not received the permission to enter in the army because he was 2 kilos short (weight of 48 kilos)... Maybe Ravel have changed his trio later ? However, a version was finished just at the beginning of WW1...

    • @stynway59
      @stynway59 5 лет назад +7

      He struggled with the Trio for some time. He left the distractions of Paris to concentrate, in the area where he was born, near Spain in Basque territory. You hear Basque rhythms in the first and last movements. He got stuck creatively anyway, but when the war broke out, he poured everything he had into a heroic effort to finish so he could enlist. He was disqualified from combat, as was said above, yet served as a driver and saw much horror, but the Trio was complete. The Passacalle is played exceptionally heavily here; it usually has a stately momentum and dignity, rather than this performance's somewhat weepy melodrama. That said, I think the final movement here, by virtue of a slightly slower, more deliberate approach, is the most transparent I have heard. All the internal structures are finally audible and that's wonderful. Of course, the Pantoum is the dazzler, as it was meant to be. Very nice recording

      Non, Ravel n'était pas franco-espagnol. Il était simplement français, né à Ciboure de parents français. La double nationalité est une invention récente. Quant à dire qu'il était "nationaliste", je me demande bien quels éléments biographiques permettent de le qualifier de la sorte.

    • @billyves1
      @billyves1 4 года назад

      In French writing It is rather "faux-pas" if not simply rude-impolite to answer to anyone with capital letters. I'm pretty sure as well that it'd be quite the very same in English.

    • @billyves1
      @billyves1 4 года назад

      @@Mlx51 Tout à fait, merci Marc de bien le préciser ici. L'histoire plus qu'inventée de "Franco-Espagnol" doit venir à certains du Boléro, fameuse œuvre mais pièce plus que ressassée du cher Maurice R., loin d'être toujours aussi du meilleur effet. Quant au "Nationalist", on trouve et lit vraiment totalement le plus grand n'importe quoi sur le Net.
      Quand on est Français soi-même, c'est presque injurieux de sous-entendre et dire que Ravel serait nationaliste à son propos.
      Sinon "Genuis" déjà ne veut pas dire grand chose, est mis à n'importe quelle sauce plus ou moins émotionnelle... il est certainement plus indiqué de dire que c'était un véritable artiste, ou artiste véritable, déjà, dans la musique s'entend, justement. Mais pas seulement : pour moi c'est un grand peintre musical, comme Debussy l'est aussi. Un pur poète des sons. Preuve aussi en est qu'il me semble bien qu'il connaissait Mallarmé, entre autre. L'appréciait beaucoup. Comme à l'évidence il aimait Manet et les impressionnistes qui ont suivi juste après celui-ci. Merci encore et bien à vous Monsieur Lemieux ;-).
