I don't know.... I just don't understand "Fresh Off The Boat"? I mean, it seems like Asians in 2019 are more savvy about American things in Asia, than some Americans are here. It also would seem like the premise would work better set in the '50s, '40s, '30s, or '20s. They have all the tech there, that we have here. Acting like they don't know about Chip's Ahoy or Capn Crunch just isn't believable. Or, Mom has never been to Walmart yet everything in Walmart is made there...right...no brainier. And, then it seems like it might be just a little demeaning to Chinese. Some parts are pretty funny but they don't deal with the premise that the characters are unaccustomed to being in the United States. If the characters were just kooky for some reason other than being Chinese it might be funnier. Not to be redundant, it just seems that, "just off the boat" premise would work best as a period piece. I think the '40s probably would have been the best decade. Then everything American would seem unusual. Imagine this conflict of of conceptually. Things that are really old fashioned to the audience in 2019 are like super modern marvels to the characters. Now that starts to become funny. It was something similarly done in the Flintstones. Remember something like a phonograph player... was a bird's beak on the record in place of the needle. Another appliance would have a small animal on a conveyor belt as the motor. The audience loved it.
