I think the "thappad" was more a metaphor throughout the movie. It actually portrayed this sense of entitlement, the patriarchy. The hota hai, chalta hai attitude, move on. The indifference and the lack of empathy shown by her mother-in-law right after the incident, by himself - justifying his actions as an outcome of anger and disappointment. Her brother being ditto. I don't know if anybody else noticed, but the husband never apologized or showed remorse for that incident ever throughout the runtime. And that was the real "thappad".
I ❤️ed the movie. Wasnt preachy yet it hit. Tapsee Pannu is so underrated.Actors and movies like these deserve way more credit that SOTY and Ananya Pandey..

Anybody saying it's an exaggeration doesn't know what dignity is. It's not about men or women. It's about assuming that a person who chose to or had to walk behind you will give in to your persecution. A male colleague of my first work place, worked literally like a slave and was always laughed at for his accent. We never knew a quiet someone like him would one day speak up in an informal party where he was abused by the boss. People said, it's okay, he was drunk, it's normal in corporate. We knew he is going to loose his job. But only because of him standing against the boss, so many others started talking. There is nothing that protects a man from harrasment of this kind unfortunately, whether in corporates or in our judicial system. But coz it was a start-up and a very close knit company, the boss apologized. My colleague still chose to leave the company with dignity. Please see it that way, no dignified person, woman or a man or a child would take a slap and not react.

To anyone who is a little confused, Sometimes you won't find any of your loved ones stand by you in the most difficult times of making big and hard decisions of your life especially divorce etc, but if you know that's what your heart wants and you think it's right, go for it. God would protect you through it all. Don't turn bitter, cry maybe but don't be bitter cz maybe they see the world differently and have different priorities and perspective of life, so don't worry just follow your path. There is a difference between ego and your calling, just know that and you'd find the answer in your heart ♥

I found it hard to believe that taapsee didnt recognized the disrespectful treatment of her husband, till the slap. In my experience, women instantly know, when they are belittled or disrespected.
It was not that she didn't recognise the lack of appreciation for her on her husband's part, may be she did but being a home maker she overlooked it. That's what most of do. If everything is fine, why pinpoint such small invisible issues, that is how most households function. But that slap was wake up call for her. At times u need life to give u a tight slap( in movie literally) to stop, pause for a moment and look around and see the wrong which used to appear as normal.

@@shreerakshap4642 It isn't a novel but a play. Thappad has a couple which gives us that happy couple vibes, at least in the trailer. The Doll's House has a similar couple, Nora and Torvald Helmer. A happy couple but a patriarchy stricken one at the same time. Quite similarly, in Thappad we find a couple which is happy and perhaps, there is this patriarchy stricken aspect in there as well. In The Doll's House, it is about just one quarrel, or rather one rather harsh behaviour by Torvald Helmer towards Nora, which made the latter take the decision to leave the house. Nora breaks patriarchy with one strong and bold decision. Thappad has similar aspects.

This music really calmed me down today when I needed it most. I went and got counselling for my mental health which has been my biggest burden for 8 years. I feel more encouraged to come forward and speak about my feelings these days just like Taapsee’s character.

Loved the way she replied to her lawyer everytime she would try to make her understand let go. The way she said " nahi maar skta" had such a strong feeling. She didn't compromised, loved the father too. The way he loved her and didn't ask her to go back and make it work.

@@shreerakshap4642 It isn't a novel but a play. Thappad has a couple which gives us that happy couple vibes, at least in the trailer. The Doll's House has a similar couple, Nora and Torvald Helmer. A happy couple but a patriarchy stricken one at the same time.
Quite similarly, in Thappad we find a couple which is happy and perhaps, there is this patriarchy stricken aspect in there as well.
In The Doll's House, it is about just one quarrel, or rather one rather harsh behaviour by Torvald Helmer towards Nora, which made the latter take the decision to leave the house.
Nora breaks patriarchy with one strong and bold decision. Thappad has similar aspects.

This music really calmed me down today when I needed it most. I went and got counselling for my mental health which has been my biggest burden for 8 years. I feel more encouraged to come forward and speak about my feelings these days just like Taapsee’s character.

Loved the way she replied to her lawyer everytime she would try to make her understand let go. The way she said " nahi maar skta" had such a strong feeling. She didn't compromised, loved the father too. The way he loved her and didn't ask her to go back and make it work.
Finally someone stops Arijit from crusing in Filmfare . Kudos to Raghav Chaitanya and masterstroke composition
