Guys, Henry doesn't have his Irish accent because he was never Irish to begin with. It's literally said in the cutscene that his memories were replaced and he gained his real memories now. Not to mention that it's not a insurmountable feat for voice actors to fake an Irish accent. Basically, Henry knows a lot more about what's going on and has a lot more stakes into this whole situation than Travis. We already knew since No More Heroes 1 that Travis, Henry and Jeane had a fucked up shared past, and now it seems that it's coming back to explain some things about them. It's just theories but it's possible that they are related in some ways to Kamui/The Silver Eye, but Travis is too good of a guy to use whatever power he could potentially have for nefarious intent. However, Henry seems to have changed in the wake of his newfound knowledge, which is understandable when you realize your whole life is a lie and your brother is still blissfully living in that lie. @@houragents5490 Yes, but generally it seems like they share some similarities with Dante and Vergil. Both Dante and Travis are aloof cocky energetic people that enjoy fighting who (in their first game at least) were mostly motivated by family ties. (Travis to avenge the deaths of his parents, Dante to stop his brother and stopping the reawakening of the Temen-ni-gru, the tower his father sealed away.) Also, they both have an affinity for warm colors. Vergil and Henry, however are more cool and collected. They show this in the way they speak and generally act. Dante and Travis have a more comical, cocky and casual tone. Travis swears a lot, and while Dante rarely swears, he still throws tons of snark and shade at his foes. However Vergil and Henry have a much more blunt, clinical and to-the-point style of speaking and general demeanor. This is even reflected in the way they fight. Dante and Travis have much more fun during fighting, using flashy moves and spectacle to overwhelm their foes. While Vergil and Henry, on the other hand are much more based on effectiveness rather than spectacle. (Doesn't mean they ignore spectacle, though...) Also Vergil and Henry have an affinity for cooler colors. (Just as a side note, this fight is ended in a way that is very similar to the way the third Vergil battle in DMC3) tl:dr because I over complicate things Vergil/Dante and Henry/Travis are very similar when compared to other rival characters. Travis and Dante are both cocky aloof people who are very snarky and wear warm colors. Vergil and Henry are quite calm and collected and are very serious. They also wear cooler colors.
@H. Firestone Agreed, people should always try to look deeper into the situation before they can cast judgment. @@dandrive3249 for the last time, even if Quintom Flynn was back as the va for Henry, the accent would still be dropped. In TSA Henry lost the accent entirely.
I have a theory but it might be disproven in the future. The person taking the hit on Travis Touchdown, as in the man in the trench coat who was ran over was Henry. It essentially establishes that he can't die just like Travis. Travis & Henry both know they are in a videogame, & Travis in the first game was alienated by other people as if he has a form of solipsism from his immortality, yet realises that the people he talks to aren't just philisophical zombies, but real people he can't get back, hence having him understand death. Just as whenever Travis dies, he goes back to the checkpoint. They both essentially wanted to fight regardless of how meaningless it is. Just like in the first game. Henry Cooldown is essentially if Travis never really changed, killing to fight someone better than him, as Henry literally makes his own self aggrandizing cult called the Order Of The Emerald Night, hellbent on killing Travis.
tbh it already far too late once henry regained his memory, he was already insane even before the cooldown's took him and erased his memories, and you're right, it is a shame to lose all his siblings.
Coming from someone who only really knows the first two games, this is so damn jarring, even for Suda's usual fare. Apparently TSA explains more as to why Henry is like this now? Even then, this is such a radical change that it may as well be a completely different character now (one that's, quite frankly, way less memorable than the original).
At the very least the game acknowledges how ridiculous it is. Perhaps in a future game he’ll be back to his old self and just be like, “yeah that was a weird phase I went through.”
The connotations of this are a LOT bigger when put in perspective of all of Suda's games as a whole. The Silver Case and it's sequels Flower, Sun, and Rain, and The 25th Ward specifically (this is where NT Kamui is from).
so basically what happened to henry is similar to "death-filing" in 25th ward (a sequel to suda's debut game 'the silver case') where a person awakens their inner "criminal power" and becomes the new kamui uehara
The game is practically 11 years later from NMH2....things are different, things have changed the main villains are aliens and people have a hard time believing that Henry could have entirely changed as a person???????
I know, right? I honestly would have found it pretty boring if Henry was all buddy buddy with Travis. In fact I'd been hanging on the line from 2 about how they still had a score to settle and yet that never seemed to happen.
I think it's the no irish accent thing people have the issue with, which is weird, but i think its explained by his personality and memories overwritten, and he has lost that false part of himself. I dont think he was ever irish anyways he wa just raised in Ireland, but even then people can lose their accents after not living in a certain place for a while. I like his new voice actor a lot his like delivery is really good. It must've been a deliberate choice to not have him have the accent anymore or else they would've told him to do an irish accent
I just appreciate it as a deliberately zany and wacky change, playing around the tropes of Henry being Travis’ rival mirror image. First game played it straight with him being exaggeratedly “cooler” than Travis (like a Dante/Virgil dichotomy), and the second (wasn’t directed by Suda, but I’ll include it anyway) had him being on Travis’ side but bowing out when the enemy got too ridiculous for him to tolerate. I’d say his third appearance here (and the mention of him in the ending) is just meant to continue playing on the tropes of the rival character. This is especially obvious with how Travis lampshades Henry’s current “dark side” state. Plus that random background info dump Henry did, which is reminiscent of Jeanne’s sped-up reveal to Travis at the end of NMH1. Henry’s change IS odd and abrupt. There’s nothing wrong with the people who found it as such. It’s been years since his last appearance and people can change, yes, but the point of a story is to tell a story and Henry’s change, in a normal story, would be completely wrong. But the important thing to keep in mind is that this is a Suda51 game; you gotta be able to appreciate the surreal absurdity of the game. In context, Henry’s abruptly finding religion makes as much sense as any of the other wacky and zany things in the universe.
I really preferred Henry in the first 2 games when he was a cool suave guy that was sort of a well meaning rival voiced by Raiden. This is just a step back in every way to me.
While I do agree to a point, I kinda like that the game get’s how ridiculous this is. I think it’s also kinda implied that his “original” personality from one and two was just another phase the same as this. He literally changed his whole personality because he watched Thor who’s to say his personality and one and two wasn’t another phase considering he either managed to get rid of accent or the accent was fake to begin with. I like the idea that henry was never Irish, he was just putting on an accent cause he thought it sounded cool. Kinda gives more insight to his character.
@sn1per rifle ah before in tsa his voice was different as travis said why is henry talking like that and he has change alot since they met. Soo this has been a thing since tsa but they changed his va so either way he would've dropped the irish accent regardless
I fucking love Sylvia, she just comes out of nowhere and doesn't even seem bothered by anything. She's more interested about what it was like, and toying with Travis.
It's basically Henry's imposter; the REAL Henry Cooldown must've gone away and stayed in Ireland. Yeah, he's Travis and Jeane's brother, but, Travis called Henry 'Irish ass' back at No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. I'm sure Suda51 will plant a DLC story for the REAL Henry Cooldown, voiced by none other than Quinton Flynn himself.
@@fastao4219 tbh…. Since his allegations were debunked I see no reason for him not to come back. If he does come back…. I think the character he plays should be rewarded to a degree (like Irish Henry never went bad Nd this is a clone)
Well, Suda confirmed that Travis's story is over. I guess that means whatever happened to Henry between games and his role as a future villain is going to be someone else's problem to deal with.
I find it kind of funny that the game is repeatedly calling Henry an out of touch loser and everyone in the comments is like "oh no this isn't as cool" like yeah that's the point he's a loser
I feel like there's something sinister going on with Silvia. She's too involved with Travis and his family, she's been nothing but a poison towards the brothers and set the whole thing up for Jeane to encounter Travis and fight to the death. Now there's this weird thing going on with Henry to where he can't die and seeing him reappear right into her room. It'll probably lead to nothing within NMH4 but it would be a bad decision for them to write everything off as mere coincidences
That’s an interesting observation. I feel like people often forget that Silvia isn’t exactly a "good person." Even compared to the other characters in the series, she comes across more as an instigator-a Jezebel archetype, if you may (disclaimer, I'm not referring to the African American female stereotype). In the No More Losers prequel manga, she’s implied to be the one who set up Helter Skelter to become an assassin (Helter Skelter even warns Vincent/Skelter against interacting with her), and she explicitly told Skelter Helter that Travis was the one who killed him, setting the stage for the events of NMH 2. I wouldn’t be surprised if she turns out to be the real villain in the end.
I got the mail in the game and thought in my head "this is going to be another sir Henry isn't it", the second it started and he said "little brother" I died.
I feel like the point of Henry going nuts over a film like Thor is Suda's subtle mockery of how people tend to take their escapism fantasies too far and lose touch of the real world. What was your guys take on this?
Am I just hallucinating or does Henry's first line in this cutscene actually sound like Quinton Flynn? Makes me wonder when they actually recorded the lines for this game.
Nope. It was the new VA. Shows that if he tried, he COULD have went for a similar performance to Flynn's but that probably wasn't what he was asked to do.
4:55 when he cuts him, you can see these… frosty incandescent flower petals falling from Henry’s wound… I wonder why only he has such an interesting death effect. Maybe it’s from him being a clone or something.
So just learned two things from this: the 1st is apparently they change Henry's VA cuz the original was cancelled for being a skeezy dude or something, and the 2nd was watching Thor movies makes you lode your Irish accent. But yeah, still weird how they couldn't have found a replacement that could do one unless plot shenanigans lol
My guess is in the next game, he gets that mind control gem broken by a well deserved punch to the face and snaps back. “Why the bloody hell am I wearing shades in broad daylight? And who the FUCK touched my hair!?!”
That's not henry. Not in voice, accent, or even appearance. They should have just made this a new character entirely and have him kill henry and someone else so travis can fight them as revenge.

DMC isn't the only media series with rival twins
(Doesn't mean they ignore spectacle, though...)
Also Vergil and Henry have an affinity for cooler colors.
(Just as a side note, this fight is ended in a way that is very similar to the way the third Vergil battle in DMC3)
tl:dr because I over complicate things
Vergil/Dante and Henry/Travis are very similar when compared to other rival characters. Travis and Dante are both cocky aloof people who are very snarky and wear warm colors. Vergil and Henry are quite calm and collected and are very serious. They also wear cooler colors.

@@dandrive3249 those allegations were actually debunked
@H. Firestone Agreed, people should always try to look deeper into the situation before they can cast judgment. That's what happened when people (including alot of the staff a Funimation) jumped on a hate wagon against Vic Mignogna and he was proven innocent and to this very day there are still those people on that hate campaign.
@@dandrive3249 for the last time, even if Quintom Flynn was back as the va for Henry, the accent would still be dropped.
In TSA Henry lost the accent entirely.
Dear god, he’s gone full blown Vergil
It won't be proven or disproven, as there won't be a next game. Suda confirmed it.
Like he said in the game he is just Travis' character foil
I like this interpretation because it means, henry still remains a foil to Travis, in some way, whether intentional or not.

tbh it already far too late once henry regained his memory, he was already insane even before the cooldown's took him and erased his memories, and you're right, it is a shame to lose all his siblings.
Well to be fair a lot can change in 11 years. Which is the timeframe between this and NMH 2.
The connotations of this are a LOT bigger when put in perspective of all of Suda's games as a whole. The Silver Case and it's sequels Flower, Sun, and Rain, and The 25th Ward specifically (this is where NT Kamui is from).
Henry's character changed out of nowhere = I've never played TSA

@@JohnDoe-vq9ck oh what i mean was grasshopper's debut game. sorry
Of course people change, but this is virtually unrecognizable. A lot of the characters have changed over the years, but they're still them.
