Yeah, I've done 3 east to west coast road trips. Sometimes, when a certain song comes on, and you're in that freedom of the moment, it's really profound.

Reverse gated reverb... It became even bigger later on into the 80's... This was an early use. But other than that the drum recording is very straightforward... Kenny Jones is a Rock solid drummer and he knows how to tune his kit.
@@garthkolbeck8674 ohhhh it's a REVERSE sound! thanks, I was wondering how they get that gradual decay and then gradual attack (like a gap with the air being sucked out and then returning) before the full body of the signal returns - of course it's just reversed halfway through! I was thinking maybe it was an array of parallel reverbs tuned with with different predelays, or maybe some weird sidechain compression trick. it sounds so, so fucking good for this kind of aesthetic. i normally hate the '80s gated verbs on drums with a passion but when the song has enough space (like it does here) so that it doesn't become cluttered and mushy, and it's done tastefully, it can sound so good.

Somebody said that rock is dead. It will never be dead as long as these kind of grooves continue to vibrate. Hard as a rock.
John Allen LONG LIVE ROCK!

I Member just slow walking down the strip near the casino with a fro and nice diggs to this song !
Wistle's (John Entwistle's) soul was funkified!
A fro in 1982?
Ktown C and I admire you!
Diría más bien Rock Sinfónico. Sonido estilo Pink Floyd o Supertramp.
One of the greatest pieces of music ever recorded. Hits just as great every single time
Another wonderful songs from my young childhood Thank you Friend such amazing memories
Such a solid Who tune, like most were. They entertained, but they entertained themselves by each letting go to different faccits of what their fans might dig- and in this song- Pete let loose licks along with Entwistle and created a masterpiece. Roger held his own with backup duties, and it worked, oh so well. The piano, bass and Pete killing it was and still is astounding. 🤙⚡🤘👌👍🖕✔️, KC
Great description
I discovered this song when I was eight I believe...epic
This is sung by Pete. Always surprising to see him singing instead of Roger when you watch them live. 🤘
My mom was a dancer at la chambre in michigan in the early 80's and danced to this song !!!

A friend was killed few years back. He was little a little brother. This was his song. I think of him all the time. This songs helps
That's some really good songwriting---summarizing "make yourself look great when you come to the party" as "an eminence front--put on!"
Peter Townsend, This Song is OUT OF THIS WORLD. 🎮Appropriate for this 2019 Covid New Normal Era. I just love hearing it cause it gives me energy and something do ALIVE. THANKS♥️♠️
That view 💯😭 take me back!!
When I was a mailman, I'd play music on routes that I knew well. This song would come on in a rich neighborhood and I'd really enjoy that swing.
The Who, The Guess Who, The Rolling stones, Boston, just a few of my favorite bands.
Kimberly Haugan ...... me too ....😀

Heard this for the first time tonight when it played at the end of an episode of Person of interest! Shazammed it! Would never have thought it was the Who due to the funky beat! Love it!

One of my all time favorite creations in sound!
Hope no one forgets this song in centuries to come
I don't know anything about music theory but IMO this is one of the greatest, if not THE greatest bassline in rock and roll history.
'Wistle (John Entwistle) was a savage....a goddamned beast! The man's soul was funkified.
