    I hear the introvert comment and think that we all have a level of both introvert and extrovert. Even for those who have a majority of extrovert personality, we need some time to allow our brains to sort through the volume of activities already done and also to open up the ability to be creative. For me that time comes when I am in the seat of a piece of machinery and performing routine actions (therapeutic).

      Like my watch has a "Body Battery" I think that people have a "Social Battery". Some people charge that battery with solitude, to cope with company. We call those people "introverts". Some people charge that battery with company to cope with solitude. We call those "extroverts". Personally, I find being "sociable" exhausting. Maybe most people are somewhere in between the two extremes.

    I know some are going the route of pouring the floor first. Row or 2 of block & floor poured at the same time. Easier to reach in and do the floor, then you have a nice level, dry surface to work from going up.

    • @BealyGood
      @BealyGood  2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah. I thought about doing that, but ultimately chose not to because I have steel columns and beams that have to go in and the beams reach over to the walls. But the floor concrete is supposed to be poured over top of the steel. I could have poured the concrete just over and around the columns later, but didn’t want to plus there’s a lot of crap that goes in the floor.

    Hi Geoff
    Giving nice explanations of the process, keep it up.
    It is nice to have "quiet time" on the job to clear your head out some.
    Absolutely no offense meant on the following, just concern for you.
    Please do yourself & all workers on your job a huge favor & purchase a bunch of 2x10 minimum size southern yellow pine or douglas fir for planking & set them double wide.
    A single 2x8 spf is not adequate to be walking on!
    Screw 2x6 blocking solidly onto the walls in line with the braces to support the ends of the walk planks. (Screw the planks to these) Then planks can be lapped over each other. Never leave the end of a plank unsupported.
    I cringed when I watched you walking on the 2x8's when pouring the 1st load of conc "fill".
    Accidents happen way to fast for an experienced worker yet alone for a crew just learning.
    Your health & safety is way to valuable & have an accident on your home when you have so much to do yet. Let alone being able to enjoy it with your family when your done.
    Coming from a guy that's been in the trades for over 50 years.

    Geoff,can you explain the purpose of the "common" in-line joint in the walls? Have seen it in other builds but have not heard an explanation on why it is done

    • @BealyGood
      @BealyGood  2 месяца назад

      I’ll make it a point to discuss in an upcoming video. But the basic reason is when you lay out the blocks, not every wall will be evenly divided by your block. So you have to cut pieces to fill in. Then you have to put a strap across where the two ends meet. It’s easier to stack those common seams on top of each other so you can work faster by knowing that’s where you have to cut a block and strap in one spot.

    • @larrywalker7759
      @larrywalker7759 2 месяца назад

      I like that explanation, but for my interpretation of the need to place all your cut joint seams in a common stack, I would add that it helps a builder to prevent having a "stray" cut joint seam that could get overlooked in the strapping phase of the course stacking. And........along that same line of thought (about planning to keep all your cut seam commons in one spot) you reduce the likelihood on ending up with more than a single cut joint seam in the same course.@@BealyGood

    I have so many questions!!! Not being a "builder" ...
    Are the foam boards re usable?
    Advantages vs just using plywood forms?
    Cost vs Plywood?
    insulating factors?
    Any penetrations thru concrete now requires drilling?
    Im assuming the foam boards, once the concrete is poured and set, come down?
    Structurally, quite stronger the stick and wood framing...
    Once the forms are done, does construction go as normal, stick and board? I cant imagine the entire mansion being all concrete walls( interior)?
    Cost vs regular stick frame?
    Sorry Geoff, just curious minds, wanna know! HAHAHA

    #bealygood Just one question. The joints near the corners, is there a reason that they aren't staggered? Just seem odd to me that the seam lines up from top to bottom and the two sections are joined with boards. I would think that they should be staggered. In commercial construction I have never seen anyone prepare concrete forms for any type of penetrations They always pour the concrete, let it cure, then cut the necessary holes. It is found to be easier and simpler.

    • @BealyGood
      @BealyGood  2 месяца назад

      That’s interesting. I did many commercial buildings over a period of 25 years and the architect always requested we specify our conduit requirements. If they had to drill the concrete we got lots of crap for that. 😊

    • @davidnull5590
      @davidnull5590 2 месяца назад

      @@BealyGood --- I checked with an old friend in NYC, He said for conduits in structural members they are careful about embedded conduits and the openings (not your case) For poured walls he said no one blocks out for the penetrations, they have holes drilled afterwards - the trades are always off by a little, so it's easier to drill once than block before pour, fill the hole, then have to drill again. My friend's clients are large commercial projects in metro NYC, his firm does the project management, he has several hundred PEs working for him so I don't know how current his information is, I wonder if he still gets out into the field to observe that level of detail anymore.

    What keeps concrete on at side seams? I see where they interlock top and bottom but what about where ends meet. Almost seems I saw gaps. Lol

    I have a question: Is there any way of preventing the vertical brace against the wall from moving when the concrete is poured in? Having done concrete form work in a previous life, I'm aware of the tremendous pressure load at the bottom of form work.

    • @BealyGood
      @BealyGood  2 месяца назад +1

      There is a spot at the bottom that allows you to tapcon the brace to the footing, if you so desire.

    curious, wouldnt you want to offset the seams? seems to me that would make them lock better and be stronger.

      There’s a reason for the common seams. I’m going to talk about it in a video. Will either add it into Sundays or it will be Tuesday’s.

    Do you have to buy the braces, or rent and return after the pour?

    Hi Geoff. All those supports ect do you buy those then throw away from after or are they a type of on rent type of deal. Just curious as buying them would seem a bit of a waste if they can be reused. Cheers Andy. Perth Australia

      You can purchase or rent the bracing. I purchased and will rent out after the walls are complete. The wood for the scaffolding is used elsewhere.

    Been looking at ICF online. From what I'm seeing, they don't seem to be used on commercial or industrial. Is that the case or am I looking in the wrong places? I was wondering about using it for a large shop.

    • @BealyGood
      @BealyGood  2 месяца назад

      They’re being used a lot in commercial. Many schools are now being built using them. Also, apartment buildings. Would be easy to construct a shop with them.

    Can a DIYer lease/ rent the plumb wall bracing from the ICF manufacturer or does it have to be purchased?

      You can rent it from various sources. I plan to rent mine out when I’m done.

    There is a spot where the seams aren't staggered, isn't that going to be a problem for a weak spot?

    I’m building a 32x76 basement and have been wondering about ICFs
    What do they charge for the braces and plywood inside (1 sided forms). I assume there’s a rental fee associated with that?

    • @BealyGood
      @BealyGood  2 месяца назад

      Doing a basement you wouldn’t really want to do the one sided forms. You would do the regular foam on both sides. Because you can screw the sheet rock right to it. Unless you want the look of concrete on the inside.
      The braces can be rented. It depends on where you’re at and how long you’re going to have them. Some places are $20 per brace per week. I’m looking at renting mine after I’m done and will probably do a better deal than that.
