I actually had a hand in helping Chris put this out, and one of the things he’s told me is that even though he looks like that, he feels loose. He actually said he feels in a flow state when he’s playing. It’s worked for him for so long…why change it now?
This album originally stemmed from his work with a band his band Oceans Ate Alaska, and then in 2020 with his work with a the band I Am Abomination. So many people commented about his playing and ranted and raved that there was no way he was playing it in one take, not using triggers or sample replacing, and that it wasn’t snap to grid.
The producer/guitar player for I Am Abomination put out a video with Sabian showing Chris in the studio with them. He actually coined his new tag “I’m not quite happy with this” while recording that album. He kept wanting to do it one more time and the producer was like “Bro, it was perfect” Chris said “no it’s not. I was off on this part” When they checked the recording, he was something like .0075 off the click track, which is superhuman in itself, but also other worldly that he could hear that.
He always had an affinity for Trap music and wanted to mix genres while proving to people that it could be done the way he claims. The song Triggered, which is his duet with Thomas Lang, proves Chris’s talent. He made one of the greatest current drummers sweat his butt off AND be super critical and unsure of the version he was going to use for the video.

The main reason he records it is to prove he's playing it all start to finish in a single take.

  • @WhiskeystixxTV

the reason he is stiff is because this is the take that is on the recording. It's actually on the track.
    Worth it IMO.

Bruh I dont know anybody in the world that can play double bass with that much VELOCITY and precision while lookin loose and stylish lol. Also, no triggers, no edits. All in one take. I believe this was written as more of a drumming showcase rather than a song you would listen to on your way to work. Even skaters be lookin less stylish when they're attempting tricks that are pushin their limits. I agree with you on that GOAT song though. They doing too much. Thanks for taking me up on my recommendation bro. Much love

I like your unique takes. He was also 1 shooting it with 0 tracking so he was definitely concentrating like mad.

I feel like as a gospel drama myself, I really know the songs that will set you on fire when it comes to rock, especially based on what you described wanting to hear from a song, I'm telling you you will go crazy when you hear these three songs.
    1. Tool-Descending
    2. Avenged Sevenfold- Save Me
    3. Killswitch Engaged- My Curse
Not just for their awesome drumming but the fact that they're just great songs. Undeniably

I think technical drumming like this makes it a bit hard to look loose and stylish though. Especially to hit things cleanly

Also he has to be precise because he isn't altering the track. Gotta have accurate hits.

This song is a song to showcase technical ability. As I said on your reaction to Polyphia, I like it. It sounds cool. Very proficient at their respective instrument. Fun to watch. Maybe pick something up. I don't jam it though. I'm big on weird goofy "technical" parts too. I write a ton of them for my band. It's still gotta take me to some place. I listen to all this stuff. Prog, Grindcore, Hardcore, Death metal, Math-Rock/Core, Post Rock/Hardcore. That's my metaphorical "home" with music. The Contortionist. The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza. Tool. Deftones. Plini. Animals As Leaders. Anatomy of the Bear. American Football. Of Machines. Oceana. Decoder/Lead Hands. Polyenso. Lots more too. I enjoy a very wide range of music. So it isn't a case, "they've got no 'soul'", as a lot of people use to disparage these types of musicians/bands, ("noodlers"). I love that shit. There are ways to show that you're very proficient, and still portray what I seek in music.

If you guys want some sick Rap Metal fusion music, you gotta check out these bands.
Theres a sick song you should start with its called Txxth Txker by Notions, UnityTx and BackWordz and the song absolutely fucks.
DVSR - Ready for War (the album version, not the single. This song is straight rap but so sick)/ No Sugar / Devil on my Shoulder / Whats the Proof? (Legit all these are bangers)
UnityTX - Roc Sh!t / Rack it up (freestyle) / Walk with me (this one is more hardcore influenced)
Dropout Kings - GlitchGang / Unholy / Scratch & Claw.
Hacktivist - Reprogram (single version) / Unlike Us (this band is more progressive metal or djent influenced, and it sounds so tasty)

He make look stiff, but his flow is just coming from a different place on his body, for most people it starts at shoulders, for him, its elbows.
