Love that you point out that it’s okay to throw things in the trash after you try your best with the other options. Sometimes I give myself a hard time when I make trash.
I agree! Beating yourself up over every piece of trash is not productive or healthy. Some things just can't or shouldn't be reused, such as needles and syringes.
I remember moving household goods with the military and getting yelled at by the packers for having some stuff packed! Memories. When we moved six years ago I did a huge declutter like you did. I couldn't believe how much stuff we had we didn't need. But the one thing I wasn't expecting was that when we were unpacking at the new house I did another declutter because I found more stuff that I had packed but found that I didn't need. It was a great feeling to be out from under so much stuff.
yeah they don't mind if it's not breakable but I left all the fragile stuff to them. even now thinking about unpacking these boxes I probably don't even need half the stuff I kept! it's going to be declutter part two this fall haha
there is more to come! I honestly loveee these long term videos (like composting a pela case or my compost update) as they are like little time capsules :)
Best of luck on your move! I'm not military but I have moved 40 times in my life. Many of those moves were 4000 or 5000 km (across Canada). Over the years I have learned to really pair down to absolute basics. I get rid of anything I can't take in my car with me....
I love these type of videos...especially now because I'm moving too (much smaller scale - one state over not international, ha). I'm glad you're real about trash happening. Can't wait for part 2! And Las Vegas! I love the desert and used to live in Boulder City. I look forward to seeing some familiar sights in videos. 😄
thank you!! i adoreeee the desert so i'm glad to be back :) you'll wanna follow our travel channel for our adventures (it's linked in the video description). but def stay tuned cause I have an eco moving tips video coming soon!
LOVE your process for decluttering to prepare for a move! I wish I had done this before moving last time. I tried but didn't start soon enough. Mostly because we didn't think our home would sell so quickly. Cannot wait for part 2!
Yes, our home sold within 72 hours of listing, which at the time was unheard of and meant moving had to happen fast. Luckily, the next time we move will be from our shop apartment into our forever home that we are planning to build once all the economy stabilizes a bit. After that, I’m fine with never moving again 😂
Good on you starting the process early! We moved a year ago and even though I knew we would three months prior I only started packing in the last couple weeks… Ended up giving away lots of stuff that could have been sold with a bit more time and also recycling a lot of stuff that could have found a new home ☹️
i get really bad anxiety so I knew I had to start early for my own mental health! also to try to minimize what I sent to landfill but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. you live and you learn :)
@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist yeah, I am still upset about all the stuff that could have found a better use 😅😭 I learned my lesson, next time I'll start early and will not give up on things
Wow it must have been stressful to declutter and pack all of this but that's awesome that you started early! I love that you said that it's important to not put too much pressure on ourselves if we produce trash because we are humans and as long as we're doing our best, everything is fine.
it really is insane cause we moved in with basically nothing as this was our first home! I'll be unpacking it all in a video this fall so stay tuned :)
We don't pay since the military moves it and honestly, why pay for it in my health. Throwing away electronics is so bad for the planet and our health. That is more important to me!
@@tasneembashir2733 i doubt that. Recycling is always better than landfill. Plus, it was with all our other stuff and weighed only a few ounces AND went on a boat
My first time watching your video and I was shocked at the huge size of your American looking kitchen! I'm used to seeing Americans in regular Korean apartment s!
it depends on which country. coming back to the states there is no quarantine for pets but going to Japan for example, the pets do have to quarantine. now if you are referencing quarantine for c o v i d then it also depends haha. my base here said I don't have to quarantine since i'm vaxxed but my friend who is vaxxed went to another base and did have to quarantine. rules are all over the place
