My mother's family is from this part of Liverpool. She told me about the Mystery and the Germans flying over dropping bombs. Her mother's home after the war was torn down. But her father's home was still around in 2008. These homes are very old. My great grandparents lived here in the late 1800s. Probably further back than that with grandparents. Thanks for the memories. I went to Clint road school and edge hill secondary modern. Both gone. I only go back to Liverpool for funerals. I am like a stranger when I go back now. I lived over the road from Dorothy street so it was nice to see it again.

If anyone knows of any, I'd be really grateful. I've had many sites recommended to me & none have been found so far. Me to i went to Clint road school then at the eage of eleven went to Bray street for six months lived in dodge street of Clint road then we at to move to Kirby had to do my last for years of education at brokefied comp hated every minute then moved to altcross road crotheth then at the eage of eighteen took myself off to Shrewsbury where I married at the eage of nineteen and hear i am at the grand old age of seven six still married to the same woman and twenty four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and love them all and most of all myself and wife are both in good health to enjoy the the pleasure of the grandchildren
It is a criminal shame that houses like this are demolished. I live in a similar property..built in 1853. It's a joy to live in..high ceilings..decent sized rooms..big open fireplaces. Much better than the horrible poky rabbit hutches that are built today. These houses should have been renovated not destroyed.
Heart breaking to say the least. The days of my youth now long gone and all of the streets and lost horizons where I used to roam gone with them. Shame on the faceless idiots who did this to my great city., Houses, buildings, Pubs and Corner shops and Post offices, old schools and hospitals are not supposed to change, how can you be expected to wander down memory lane when it's all ripped up and shattered? Whole communities that lived and breathed and cared for each other, grew up together, now all gone, cast to the four winds like so much dust across an empty desert. They used to have a slogan years ago-Liverpool-City of Change and Challenge- it's changed all right and not for the better-that is challenging.
If we didn't demolish the old buildings we'd still be living in mud huts!...imagine the mess we'd all be in ..walking down muddy memory lane.......come on live, and move on....👍🏻
Scousers have always said Liverpool is a great city even when nearly all the houses were boarded up in many areas, I don't understand them to be honest, they think everything is nice just because it's in Liverpool. Liverpool has always been a very depressing city even now since millions of pounds of regeneration has been injected into it. I hate Liverpool I'm so glad I left it is an absolutely awful place to live, dull.and soulless dare to think outside of the box and notice that there are far better places to live in the UK then prepare to feel unwelcomed and not wanted. In my opinion it's a very shallow city I will never go back there ever again!
wavertree road was like going to mimi town, good shop's that took checks, sturlas, freeman's and barta shoe shop, hick's bread shop. i loved ied it all.
You're right you didn't need to go to town, lots of shops like you mention and also Crawfords and Allentoffs green grocers on the corner of wavertree rd. and Durning rd

@@basilfawlty8244 Maybe Central Library could possibly hold archive photographs, other than that i don't know of any specific sites that have what your looking for. I've never heard of Wenham street but i remember Quinns Cycle shop being in the area you mention.
@@raymilan5307hi ray yes I remember allentoffes and the ice cream shop the creamoler i lived on the opposite side i us to run through the entry where I lived at number eleven dodge street at the cross roads wavertree road tunnel road and durning road use to go to the tunnel road picture house i now live in Shrewsbury where I have been for fifty years but I still miss wavertree road and edge hill it's all changed as you probably know
These houses could of been modified to suit latest bldg regs at a lower cost than demolition & re build. Only problem I see for 21st century is car parking is restricted
My grandfather was born at 114 Wavertree Road in 1882, so presumably would have known all those streets. I believe that house came down some time ago and has been replaced by the police station. To think, all those roads would have bustled with activity at one time. Although I don't know Liverpool at all, it does seem sad that its history is being demolished. It will end up with a lot of new stuff with no character, particularly on the waterfront. Perhaps though that is inevitable given the age and condition of much of the property.
Yes the road just before botanic road. I was born in Ridgeway street and left 1966, I went back in 2017 for a look and didn't recognise the place, even Wavertree park has changed since I was there. Sad to see now.
Lived in Winifred Street mid 1950 ‘s aged about 2 to 3 years ,for a short while . Remember there still being gas mantle street lamps , & a bloke with pointed ladder , lighting the lamps . Even at that young age , I could see the area was a rat infested dump & needed demolishing back then . Luckily my parents had the good sense & opportunity to move to a nice decent semi by Broadgreen station with front & rear gardens & garage .
Wow. I never knew all that area was part of the demolition scheme. Living off Smithdown Road I only knew of the plan for that area. Wavertree will never feel the same once all that goes. Very sad. :(

I lived in Plimsoll street too. The Grove pub at the top. My uncle owned it in the 80s.
