I know nostalgia ignores many realities but I can't help feel a real sense of warmth and belonging when I look at these photos of times when I was a kid.
Used to go to the Rialto on Saturday morning 6d and the 'Jamie' ( St James picture house) on Saturday afternoon 9d. Lived in Ashwell St opposite St James church. I was glad when we moved to Childwall and had an indoor toilet and a bathroom and no cockroaches.
End of war celebrations photo makes me feel emotional. i’m 41 these are not my times, but despite the poverty I can’t help think they were better times with better people. I was born in the wrong era. God bless them all
I grew up in Cayrl Gardens. I remember going to the Caffe in Park place during the School holidays, they had a Pinball Machine in there, magic to us then. There was a Chippie just a couple of doors away, called the Blackpool, we used to get a portion of Crispy Potato Scallops, covered in Salt & Vinnegar, to us, it was a feast. Happy Days 👍😊
Hi Stephen, Thanks for the memory of those wonderful CRISPY POTATO SCALLOPS, I can see & taste them now in my MINDS EYE!!! I also used to play on that PIN BALL MACHINE, WONDERFUL MEMORIES.
@@signsofgoingloco Nice one Kenny. What great days they were mate. We had nowt, but life was fun. Johno`s pies on the corner of Mill St was a good one too mate, I still go today for them and I`m 63 lad and they are still Lovely. Take care pal 👍😜
Wonderful times in a wonderful place...I remember Richard's in Dingle Lane...sold the best Italian ice cream...the Gaumont cinema opposite the tram sheds.....what days
I love these nostalgic journeys, but I mainly hope, that I will see my mother's birth place, Portland St. off Vauxhall Road. or anywhere close to it---so far no see. If anyone knows of a vid, depicting that area, I would be most grateful for guidance. I view these shots often.
My mother worked in Wapping station in 1954 I have a picture of her in her uniform, MY parents lived in Chester Street my dad was born in Beaufort Street 1933 RIP MUM AND DAD 💖
Great photos and stills sometimes convey much more than video so you use your imagination and i find them very emotional. People had pride and respect which is a far cry from modern society.
Im a south Livapoodlian brought up in Childwall Valley, but that estate was built in the early 60s, so no heritage there! But as a kid my mum and dad, nans and granddads spoke of the "cast iron shaw, The Ovie or Dockers Umbrella, and the building of Otters pool prom" How lovely to see most of them in working order.
As has been said. Priceless memories. Small thing; you spell Sturlas's with a 'u' and not an 'e'. My dad owned the shoe shop opposite 'Butterworth's'. I miss it.
I was born in 1947 in THE HOLY LAND, LIVERPOOL 8. DAVID, JACOB, ISAAC & MOSES STREET. In that order going up PARK ROAD. I have been living On the West Coast of WALES for NEARLY 50 YEARS & I REALLY miss the SCOUSE SENSE of HUMOUR. There is NOTHING like it WORLDWIDE. I have OBVIOUSLY got a GREAT SENSE of HUMOUR as I STILL SUPPORT my WONDERFUL EVERTON & have been to sixty-nine different grounds in ENGLAND thanks to THE TOFFEES.
Hi Tom. Dunno if you can help me, but......I'm trying to find old pics of the Edge Lane area, specifically around the old Plessey factory & a street next to it called Wenham Street. Also old pics of Chatsworth Street in Wavetree. I'd be grateful for any hints on how to track these down. Thanks.
I was a police constable based at Essex Street in 1960, I walked these streets every day, very happy memories thank you
I remember the Essex street Police station well 😜 Happy Days.
Hello
Did you know George Hughes.
I know nostalgia ignores many realities but I can't help feel a real sense of warmth and belonging when I look at these photos of times when I was a kid.

OMG, my wife worked in the chippy in Dove St, in the 1960s, these photos and the great music bring back very happy and very sad memories
End of war celebrations photo makes me feel emotional. i’m 41 these are not my times, but despite the poverty I can’t help think they were better times with better people. I was born in the wrong era. God bless them all
Wgw!
I did some family research and my Great Great Grandad has a address in one of the Courts. This is wonderful, thank you
Lovely piece of nostalgia. Takes me back to my childhood and the Saturday matinee at the Reo, Fazakerley

A city may change but the people remain the same, big hearted, laughing and always smiling boy am I PROUD TO BE SCOUSE!!
I disagree, the people have changed - for the worse.
@@frankwood11 Hello Michael,..did you live in Kent at anytime?.....
Great to see all that ! Very impressive compilation of pics !
Lived above the bread shop in Park Rd, think it was 227a. Left there in 1957 to go to Lee Park.
I just love the old pictures of Liverpool.

I would love to go back and live among our own people.

Great memories
Fabulous to see, how things where.
Wow Park Road looked really nice back then, even as recent as 1960's. Criminal that they just flattened it all

Great memories through these photos. But what struck me was, despite the poverty how clean the streets and back alleys were.
Nicely put together. Went to Stebble Street baths with Mount Carmel School in the 60's, not a nice place. Enjoyed the pics though.

Fabulous,Thank you
What a dignified, splendid City Liverpool was in those days, inspite of poverty. Still is, even after so many buildings were crushed & burned in WW 2
great pics although i come from the everton area i didnt rekonize the streets also the music fitted the pics really great thanks
When people took pride in what little they had
Voelas Street. My Dad's side of the family basically all lived on the one street.

The photo of the rag and bone man was actually taken on Smithdown Road.
I found that very moving. Also the music fit well. What's the piece called please?
I think the first tune was The Lark Ascending, not sure the other one.😊

Always wanted to visit Liverpool but no doubt a lot of the beauty we see here has been replaced with modern crap
