Her voice truly embodies the passion of the whole of Ireland and this song as of 2022 just received the best Irish hit. I love how her voice is an instrument
RIP Dolores, you are missed girl. The way she sings is an Irish way, called keening, it's like a whaling cry, that was started from singing at burial songs at funerals of there kin an friends
You need to watch the official music video if you really want to understand the reason behind this song, and you can hear her voice and the lyrics much better. Dolores wrote this song after an IRA bomb killed two young boys in England, but it is really about the violence perpetrated by both sides. She told the drummer she wanted the drums to sound like gunshots or a machine gun and he attacked the drums. Great drummer and the whole band is tight. Other popular songs of theirs are Dreams and Linger.
No, she doesnt! She understood the principal, the video just have some more info and symbols! Te video is fantastic and emotional, but will not change what she understood!
You're right. The video doesn't mention the triggering event explicitly, just use some symbols and imagery to represent it. So it would not add context because it could be related to war in general@@thaba3773
Definitely recommend watching the official music video to Zombie by The Cranberries. I also recommend checking out some of their other songs (or music videos to those songs) such as "Dreams, Linger, Ode To My Family, When You're Gone, Analyse and Animal Instinct". You'll love them
No doubt that Dolores O'riordan had/has an unique and incomparable voice for singing and giving her message 💚💚💚she used keening which is an Irish technique for singing in funerals and it sounds like a lament. The cranberries have a lot of excellent live presentations!!! Waltzing back live in buffalo 📣 Ridiculous thoughts live in Detroit 📣 Just my imagination live in Des Festival 📣 Treasures!!! And greetings from Chile!!
thanks man for the live recommendations, great stuff. Have been a massive fan since early days . Unfortunately last time I saw them live was a rather lackluster performance in Royal Albert Hall. But their music lives on 4ever
I’ve always was amazed of her voice. A lot of people told me, that my voice is quite the same. So couple of days ago I made a cover on “Zombie”. Thank you for the video😍
I got tears to that needed tissue she died to soon will be missed a least we got her music try the song LINGER by them good job you rock love your inputs
So (this is the first time I've ever seen you do a reaction, btw) what she's doing is basically "keening" which is kinda somewhat forgotten style of Irish "lament" singing that was commonly done at funerals. Not too many Americans are familiar with the style and sometimes described her style as "having a bit of a yodel" but it's "keening". While it creeps into her vocals almost all the time but she really leans into it on darker tunes. She was great. Liked your reaction.
Many Irish singers have been influenced by traditional Irish music such as Sean-nós . Since the Irish language has a lot of these traditional inflections of the voice which can be created in English and keep it Irish. It’s quite lovely actually you hear it in Sinéad O’Connor Bono of U2 and many others from ireland.
Some great and painful emotions with Zombie. Sunday bloody Sunday sad anniversary that was remembered a couple of days ago from Ireland painful history.
This song was written in response to two young boys being killed by a bomb planted by the IRA. It was a howl of anger and desperation performed on behalf of everyone in Ireland. It was the anthem of a particular period of recent Irish history. The catch in the voice is typically Irish - it's called "ag caoineadh" (keening) and was a traditional sound in songs sung at funerals. People respond to it because, unfortunately, it's relevant to many parts of the world.
She keens in this song. Its heard sometines in Irish funerals and sad occasions. Its a type of wail. This song has a very strong message abour two boys killed in a bombing on 20 March 1994. Please listen to other Cranberry songs and you ll hear Dolores has one of the world's most unique voices. It is very distinctive and I love it. I was in Australia and missed her death - I didnt know how much I liked this group until I found out and was devestated. Liten to more and you'll benefit. my suggested songs are Dreams. Linger. Ode to my Family.
@VocalSplendorStudios No concert goers participate anymore.m They stand there like zombie's recording on their phones! I hate the total lack of atmosphere these days, although Glastonburys crowds are great‼️ You ought to listen to Delores dueting with Pavarotti singing Ave Maria. So, beautiful, and for Delores to sing like she grew up catholic, played the church organ and sang. In her small town there was nothing to do, everything revolved around church. Such a loss when she passed away, nobody sounds like her. I recommend her solo album Delores O'riordan "Are You Listening?" As for other Cranberries songs "Ode To My Family", "Linger" "Dreams" my favourite song is "No Need To Argue" - hauntingly pure and spiritual‼️❤🇬🇧😊
Hello Valerie, this is a great band, a very special singer and (still for England) a hard message also. For more culturally sensitive topics, please comment again on Karsu. Her popularity in Turkey has not led her to avoid culturally sensitive topics, but rather to bring them to the attention of a large audience. Chapeau. So I would like to recommend Karsu "Empty Concertgebouw Sessions" ruclips.net/video/gVzQLqwf2GY/видео.html . (Empty, due to COVID-19 restrictions, Consertgebouw = Concert Hall, Amsterdam) a very intimate concert to see. she shows so much of herself in it. Goosebumps. But also "(Empty) De Doelen Lunch Break Concert" is highly recommended. ruclips.net/video/0Bk0bvs0t6c/видео.html (The concert is half Turkish and half Dutch). She covers the well-known Dutch song by the band Abel: "Verleden Tijd" (2000). But also the original of what Roel van Velsen covered for her on "Best Singers 2021": "You Make Music" and Anneke van Giersbergen: "Jest Oldu".
There are two recent uploads on Anderson Paak's RUclips channel of him performing at Winter Jazz Fest in New York. Look for Maurice Brown(a trumpet player who works with Anderson) ft. Anderson Paak at the Blue Note and at a jam session. ENJOY!!
Bad Wolves did an amazing cover of this song shortly after Delores's death. They changed the lyric "since 1916" to "still in 2018" emphasising the point that you made about the continuation of war to today's times. It is worth reacting to.
This song is based on the trouble times in Ireland that’s why it’s so intense it’s about the innocent people being caught between fighting of the IRA and the British army. This song was released after two Young boys were killed two brothers.
I check out a lot of music video reactors, several of which are vocal coaches. Different reactors appeal to different viewers. I watch vocal coach reactions because as a singer myself, I want to get the analysis of the vocals. No disrespect intended, but all I gleaned about the vocals in this reaction was that you recognized her as Irish and that she had a bit of growl in her voice. You commented about the audience and the instrumental musicianship. Nothing about her range or vocal style or keening. It did nothing to enrich me as a singer or vocal enthusiast.
It’s so disappointing that she didn’t take ten minutes to research the background of the song and Deloris. She didn’t even know at first that she’s Irish. 🤦🏼♀️and kept saying how much love the audience was showing. It’s solidarity. Protest. Ugh. Not a word said about Delores’ Celtic influences. Just her “ growl”. Little bit of conflict? 80 years of occupation.
Dolores was one of a kind with that amazing voice. So sad that we lost her much too soon.
🥹she was amazing❤️
Her voice truly embodies the passion of the whole of Ireland and this song as of 2022 just received the best Irish hit. I love how her voice is an instrument
Fergal is such an emotional and intuitive drummer. RIP Dolores. This song did speed up the peace process. Very impactful.
RIP Dolores, you are missed girl. The way she sings is an Irish way, called keening, it's like a whaling cry, that was started from singing at burial songs at funerals of there kin an friends
Goddamit, Dolores. You have no right to make my eyes wet today. I hope there's peace for you somewhere. ❤

Keening is part of the Sean- nós tradition
She was blessed with great vocal versatility. Seek out “Dying In The Sun” for the softer side of Deloris. Beautiful song and with touching lyrics.
RIP Delores :( ❤️ Linger and Dreams are some of my favorite songs.
I’ve always was amazed of her voice. A lot of people told me, that my voice is quite the same. So couple of days ago I made a cover on “Zombie”.

Best female vocalist ever. Fact...no contest.
I missed them, too, in early 90s, not into vocals so much then, but she was phenomenal.
Try their song, Twenty-one. Has much of what you discuss.
That keening is absolutely meant to be half a step from sobbing.
I am kind of grew up on this band, so it’s always enjoyable to see somebody reacting to them.
So (this is the first time I've ever seen you do a reaction, btw) what she's doing is basically "keening" which is kinda somewhat forgotten style of Irish "lament" singing that was commonly done at funerals.

Really enjoyed your insights on one of the best.
Please more Cranberries songs. Linger from that show in 1999 has amazing vocals

Cheers for that info on keening: incredible to get that from a comment and not from the vocal coach herself...

Sempre impecável. Amazing voice

Cool stuff, You should try their tune Dreams from the same concert.
R.I.P. Delores
R.i.p Delores, we lost a beautiful voice.
Dolores R.I.P.

They also replaced one of the “bombs” with “drones”.She died the night before she was going to reprise Zombie with them.
Dolores is far better musician than O'Connor
Yeah, no doubt.
Totally
RIP Dolores O’Riordan
Keening...
That thing you're struggling to put a name on is Keening. Look it up 😎👌
please react to : IL SOGNO | Isyana sarasvati x Deadsquad | Performance at IDGAF 2021

And also the loyalist gunmen since their graffiti is also featured in the band's official video.
Gteat reaction checkout Liliacs Dear Father and see what Melodys voice can do
