That's what I love about this channel, I have received excellent links from Rick Law showing that Te Wi is on the north side of the Ohau river, about 800m SSW of where this epsiode shows it.
    Many thanks Rick!

Tena koe "Papa Kiwi". Anei ano nga mihi rangatira ki a koe e kara -to matou toki. Tu Tangata! :) (The real greetings are to you Papa Kiwi. Just like a sharp axe, you and your inspiring work opens up new doors of understandings and appreciation, and is an example to others of how we can all learn from each other. Stand proud! :) )

Yet another great recounting of an episode in history. As commented on an earlier occasion, equally important to keeping your friends close and your enemies closer is working out who is who. Well done!

Yes its one of those 'what if moments' in NZ history. A hit was planned on Governor Grey on Oakura beach in Taranaki that never succeeded, another 'what if' event.

Cheers Talia, my pronunciation is a work in progress. I look forward to the day when it comes naturally and doesn;t stop the flow of my narration.

i was wondering/hoping your research sheds light on another nz history 'skeletons in the closet' the ngati hotu.. im of ngapuhi and teroroa(ngati whatua) descent and would love to know accurately if there were bigger ethnic diversity amounst moari.. i hope these stories cross paths

'Skeletons in the closet' that's just racist pseudo-historians trying to undermine Maori as tangata whenua and in some cases supplant Maori wth Celtic or other tribes, a bunch of bull. There are no skeletons or conspiracy for maori and in our maori oral histories, many of our tribal traditions talk of, celebrate and honour patupaiarehe, tuehu and other 'beings' being present here, or in our Maori world before during etc the time Maori have been here. Other Tribes such as mine desecended from taniwha, from ancestors that WERE these beings, yet other hapu descended FROM the earth itself, so please drop the racist white supremacist shading of our stories and go and talk to your own elders, in your tribal area, dont ask youtube, or people that arent of your hapu

@@stoneleighful Definitely don't take it as gospel but have a open mind.

I frequently visit Waikawa river and beach area's, I have not seen any sign posting of where Te Rauparaha Pa is located but would be interested in taking a look of that specific site. Do you know where exactly it was situated?
