This is so much better than the base original Mario Kart 8 roster. The entire Mario Kart Wii cast are back together plus Petey Piranha, Wiggler, Shy Guy, Kamek, Pauline, and even Peachette. This is even gave Mario Kart Wii’s roster the run of its money.

I've been surprisingly happy about Diddy Kong finally becoming playable in this Mario Kart game. He was my father's main in the one on the Wii back in my child ages like when I've played and lost against him in the VS mode at 150cc with no CPUs and no items. Yeah, I've actually dreamed of that thanks to my fond memories of playing various Touhou danmakufu fangames that have given playable roles to various characters like how Ephemeral Unnatural Balance has done with Rin Satsuki.
All characters from Super Mario Kart (except DKJR). All characters from Mario Kart DS (except R.O.B.). All characters from Mario Kart 7 (except Honey Queen, thank god).
I have nothing against Peachette, but who came up with the idea of including her? Was she even wanted? In my opinion, better characters like Nabbit, Dixie Kong, King Bob-omb or, best of all, Hammer Bro (my Mario Universe favorite), with Ice Bro, Fire Bro and Boomerang Bro as costume characters, would have fit in.
That's not how it works, if "x" clone wasn't here you still wouldn't get a completely unique and new character, you'd just have 1 character less, which is objectively worse than what we got.

The new arrangement makes no sense. They put Diddy, Pauline and Funky in between Mii characters and guests. With Peachette randomly placed near enemies.
They should’ve gone with Nabbit, look at the placement on the roster. And now that Super Mario Bros Wonder has just released, it would be good promotion for that game since he’s the only playable character not in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (aside from the Toad recolors)
It's sad that we didn't get Kirby as a playable character instead we have him as a Mii costume which is not right because Kirby has his own racing game which is Kirby Air Ride so it would make sense to add him in the game but I guess not so hopefully in Mario Kart 9 they do
They still haven't brought Luma back either. Remember in the Wii version he always flew beside Rosalina. People wished for him back as a character of his own
I don’t get why this game didn’t give us an option to choose different Toad colors. We have that for Yoshi, Shy Guy, Birdo, and Ink-ling. Then we have male and female Villager, hero and champion Link, & gold and metal Mario. Then we have a number of Miis(guest or self-created)and now costumes. It was a missed opportunity if you ask me.

People have been saying that they wish Luma was back in the game. They all miss him, as he used to be flying beside Rosalina in The Wii version. After that he was no longer there. So people said if not back with Rosalina they said Luma could just be back once and for all and have a Kart of his own.

If i mod this roster, i replace Tanooki Mario to Hammer Bros and Pink Gold Peach to Chargin' Chuck Mario enemies in the roster sounds a strange idea, but these characters are added in Tour and i have to do something
They're not wasted slots as they were shown to be able to add new characters after updates. I do agree that there are a bunch of clones, but most of the important characters are covered here. The only vets that are missing are as follows: Super: 1) DK Jr. Double Dash: 1) Koopa Paratroopa DS: 1) R.O.B. This is arguably the best Mario Kart roster I’ve ever seen!
People have been saying that they wish Luma was back in the game. They all miss him, as he used to be flying beside Rosalina in The Wii version. After that he was no longer there. So people said if not back with Rosalina they said Luma could just be back once and for all and have a Kart of his own.
They've shoulda put Hammer bro in the game but otherwise the roster aint too bad. 👍🔥
They should've just put tanooki mario and gold mario as costumes for regular mario
Watch as they make a new console with a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remake as a launch title and all this DLC is included in the base game
And then they make more DLC
plus getting more characters to the roster like hammer bro, king bob-omb, monty mole, paratroopa and charging chuck with a random new character like gold mario

@@1upinc.988 they really couldn’t just build them from scratch they just reused assets because they were in tour. “Tracks and characters from previous Mario kart games” more like “let’s bring over tracks and characters directly from tour cause we’re lazy” and they even used the same renders from tour in the character select screen they didn’t even bother to resize them to match the rest

Mario enemies in the roster sounds a strange idea, but these characters are added in Tour and i have to do something
Ever since Wave 6, I alternate between Diddy Kong and Funky Kong in Grand Prix.
This roster is insane! It's kind of unfortunate that Toad doesn't have yellow and blue alts though

I know this is going to be controversial, but this roster is a piece of garbage, ok? Too many wasted slots with clones and forgettable characters.
They're not wasted slots as they were shown to be able to add new characters after updates. I do agree that there are a bunch of clones, but most of the important characters are covered here.

The fact is that every character from the home releases (besides DK Jr. and Paratroopa) and the portable releases (besides R.O.B. and Honey Queen) eventually came back to 8D's roster, which makes this the best roster, IMO. I do agree that there are way too many baby and clone characters, but I like having almost all of the veterans back.
