This bit was hilarious before I even knew "Maude" existed. Now, it's my favorite show & this is still funny. It made me appreciate the show & the theme song.
The theme song of Maud was the best part. I wish there was a longer opening to it. Also, I do the same thing when it comes on one of those re-run channels.
My favorite thing is that Peter just turns the TV off after seemingly being excited to watch the show again because the extended intro pissed him off that badly.
Suddenly that brings back dormant memories that Joan of arc died burned at the stake at a young age (19?). That would have completely flown over my head with the happy jingle if you haven't emphasized it...
Nobody freaking noticed the Joan of arc line was funny but messed up. "Joan of Arc had the lord to guide her, she was a sister that really cooked"..... she was burned alive at the freaking stake lol. 😆

@@jaycee330 lol, are you talking about the "Family Guy" version, that's not real, it was a gag bit for "Family Guy" ruclips.net/video/lWUD7MBdDuo/видео.html
It's a sitcom starring Bea Arthur that aired from 1972-1978, well before the Golden Girls. It was a spin-off of All In The Family (another show you may never have heard of).
One way to look at this joke is how you can watch sitcom reruns and listen to a TV song over and over and think you know it then all of a sudden in a special episode they'll play the full version and throw you for a loop. Full House and Golden Girls are examples.
Family Guy actually did this too - I think it happened about five times throughout all of the seasons; First when Peter fell down the stairs and crushed that one showgirl, once when a showgirl walked down the stairs during the intro interrupting everything to tell Peter she was pregnant, that one time after Brian died and was replaced with Vinny in the opening credits, once when Stewie was replaced for not knowing the words during his nightmare, and another time when Cleveland was back so he interrupted to take his usual spot where he used to stand for the opening and kicking Mort out.
Sometimes when my wife is telling a really long story that doesn't go anywhere I just randomly say "... and then there's Maude." In the same annoyed tone Peter does
"...except for that one time when she didn't come back" cracks me up every time, especially since the "except" is wrong; she did still fly the airplane!
It makes me happy that on the video of the real Maude opening from 14 years ago that I found on RUclips had a top comment that was just “Amelia Earhart flew a lot of airplanes, except for that one time when she didn’t come back.”
The opening sequence to Maude is to include every woman who ever lived on this planet earth. It would be 1,673 years long, using every woman, all 50 plus billion.
I was waiting for the song to mention somebody more recent like Hillary Clinton so that Peter could say "Oh come on! She didn't even come along until after the show was canceled!"
Gotta find it interesting naming all these female pioneers in a show that's kinda misogynistic. (I mean Family guy is misogynistic not Maude) And then there's Maude
“Susan B Anthony always out doin stuff” cracks me up haha

Probably peter is also getting exasperated at it, instead of them just sitting there silently while the song keeps going
This is my second favourite after their rendition of Mr. Booze
Especially with how peters face progressively changes from beginning to end

I'm laughing because Maude never had a long opening sequence. I love the look on Louis face its hilarious.
You know Family Guy always goes overboard 🤣🤣🤣
True, I think they were mocking how long the intro's were to shows back in the 70s and 80s, especially the earlier seasons of shows.
Abdu Robinson it’s Lois
They did have a shortened version in later seasons though, they basically cut out all the repeated "And Then There's Maude"s.
