I served with Jordy many years ago. We were young men together. We laughed together and formed a bond. As it goes in the military, after some time we all go our separate ways. I was sad to hear about Jordy, but not surprised he was able to save more people upon his death. I hope his family knows that he was a good man and he was loved by many. RIP brother, see you in another formation.

I've given the 'anesthesia' for several organ donors. It is done with the utmost respect for the donor as we try to keep the organs alive until they are harvested. Sometimes it is incredibly difficult to do. The professionalism of the teams I have worked with was astounding. When they pour the iced saline onto the heart to stop it and radically slow it's metabolism, my job was over. It is then that I am completely struck by the finality of this person's sacrifice. It is the only type of case where the anesthesia provider is finished before the surgeons. Utterly surreal.

@@jackmeyhoffer5107 Completely alien to us anesthesiologists. Since the brain is already not functioning we were doing life support. Sometimes the heart starts failing before the other organs are harvested. It gets to be quite the challenge and stressful because other people are waiting on those organs.
