    this doesn't address the conversation on eye dominance at all. saying both eyes should see the rim doesn't have anything to do with how eye dominance might relate to shot line

  • @eta8304
    @eta8304 3 года назад +8

    Eye dominance is less about vision but more on aiming. Eye dominance doesn't only work when your using only 1 eye. Even when you see your target with both eyes, your mind subconsciously aims using your dominant eye, hence the eye test. When you do the eye test you don't start off having 1 eye closed. You do it with 2 eyes open, that basically is the logic behind it. Its not about covering one eye, its about even when you see your target with both eyes, your brain aims using your dominant eye.

    So many holes in the argument. Doesn’t take having a weaker eye into account. My eyesight isn’t the greatest but individually, my left eye is carrying the team and my right is lagging behind. Form shooting would have me bringing the ball up my right side, but would also take longer to master and would have a lower max potential than allowing my body guide me in bringing it up my left. Obviously, thanking it to the extreme and shooting on the opposite side would impair the shot. But shooting straight through the midline like Lonzo’s new shot, KD, and Diangelo Russell gives me more potential and more ease in mastering my shot.

    Im sorry coach, but ima have to disagree all great shooters have eye dominance and they consistently get it towards there dominant eye and knock it down with great results as with any accuracy sport it important to have perfect aim, while i do agree you shouldn’t be swinging the ball like lonzo (being cross dominant myself) but to say it has no relevance to your shot is ridiculous

      how about similar sport game which need aiming to a spot? if you see dart game. right hand players using their right eye as dominant eye, their hrad slightly turn to the left and some of them hand arm start more to the opposite side. mostly the same with basketball shooting.

      Your argument isn’t totally correct. Yes it’s true that you should have your hand underneath the ball and only on the side of your shooting hand no matter if your right hand dominant with a dominant left eye and vice versa. However having a dominant eye that is opposed to your dominant hand does in fact cause a shooter to naturally bring the ball up into their set point from the other side of their body. It is a symptom of having an opposing dominant eye from your dominant hand. Should they use that as an excuse for why they shoot that way ? No. Can it be fixed? yes of course with a lot of form shooting. should you correct everyone who has that issue ? Maybe if it effects their ability to shoot ie lonzo, mkg. However there are other players like KD and Devin booker who have been successful shooting this way. If you look at sports like archery and target shooting (with guns) , having an opposing dominant eye does effect how your fundamentals that’s one of the main things they focus on even though they should see the target with both eyes.

    Are you basing this on the assumption that players have 20/20 vision? I ask because before I got contacts my vision was severely hampered AND eye dominant. I'm right handed but my right eye was that weak that I naturally used my left eye to see more. Even now with contacts I still occasionally feel like I'm using my left eye more than my right. I've just had to try and mentally/physically break the habit of bringing the ball towards my left side and keep it in line instead. So while I understand and agree with the motion that if you are able to then shoot with correct form, it's not necessarily going to work as easy for others.

    This is not a myth! Eye dominance is about amining with one eye while both eyes are open. I never heard a coach talking to cloase one eye. A lot of crossed eye players move the shooting path over to the dominante eye like Dominic Safarta. The question is, what to do in this case? Train eye dominace to the other side (yes its possible) or accept shifted shooting path. Both have some flaws.

      Forrest Leon Warren regardless of durants / bookers success we shouldn’t teach those mechanics or encourage them. • @guilhermepereiramendes3512
    @guilhermepereiramendes3512 4 года назад +1

    I am right-handed and I have the left dominant eye, when I shoot, I start with the shoot pocket in the middle and go up everything, looking at the basket but without aiming, because my face is turned to the basket and there it is aligned, because of that my set point it's close to the nose, but it causes some problems in the mechanics, mainly in the hand placement, I'm very inconsistent, time I'm hitting everything, but depending on the way I catch the ball sometimes air balls come out, I train every day, it wasn't to happen, when I try to shoot the right way, with the shot line out, I make mistakes because I do the same thing, because going straight to my right eye shadow (which becomes my new set point) is not straight for the basket, but yes naris, and then it doesn't go in the right direction, I was taught that I should do everything in a straight line, but seeing the video it seems that the right thing is to do the shot line from the outside and aim, and not just go straight up, finishing the throw with the hand in the basket, is that right ??
    sorry for grammatical or concordance errors, I used google translator, hugs from Brazil, thanks in advance

    In your example it shows that your follow through is off to the side. Shouldn’t this result in your shot being off right? How do you know if your follow through is going towards the basket if its not in front of your eye/eyes?

      Ryan Razooky Basketball your first example shows you shooting and your follow through is on the side of your head, in front of your ear/shoulder. If you see steph and klay shoot or even alot of nba players, their follow through is in front of their face/shooting eye, which allows them to aim directly for the rim.

It doesn't have to be straight or have little movement.
