My dad has been wearing a Ball watch for as long as I can remember, and as someone going into civil engineering, their technical history is something I have always found fascinating. Criminally underrated to me as well.
Earlier in the year, I bit the bullet and purchased one. It is definitely a nice watch, I’m impressed by how solid the watch is, and the finishing is incredible. So I would recommend this watch to anyone looking for a good watch under $1000.
I started paying attention to Ball after Teddy reviewed the Nightbreaker and that is what I got. It's incredible the amount of tech Ball squeeze into their watch in a 11.3mm case.
I own this watch for 2 Years now. Ball represents great value for money. The Case, Bracelet and Dial finishing is way beyond the 1000$. It can easily compete with watches 3-5 times of it's price.
I have this watch with the silver dial and I have to say I was shocked when it arrived. I thought that it looked nice online but the finishing for 1k blew me away. I wear this, my Explorer and my Tudor Glamour Day Date these days and this has helped squash my desire to get the OP at least not above retail 😁👍🏾
The Ball watch polishing and overall finish is on another level and they have their own design language which is hard to find in watches in this price range. Good video as always Teddy 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
purchased this watch about 5 years ago for a little less than $900..love seeing it get the love it deserves now..solid every day watch..love your videos..you're killing it...
The fact that Ball has it’s roots in Cleveland is a huge reason I will own one, one day. And keeping with the Cleveland theme, there’s only one place from which to buy…
I managed to fit a tapered bracelet I had (by holding it with my hands) just to see how it would look. I honestly felt like it looked terrible (20 to 16mm so quite a heavy taper though) Something about the non tapered bracelet works really well on this watch.
@@tayflintstoner2873 I cannot possibly argue with that tayflinstoner. You're the man!.. first for even owning it, and second for giving that tapered idea a go! God bless my friend. Wear that non-tapered peach in good health.👌🤗
Great review that highlights the tremendous value of Ball watches. I have a Ball Fireman Enterprise and a Ball Trainmaster Streamliner. I find that even the best Super Luminova fades quickly, and the Ball Tritium is extremely visible throughout the night. This is particularly true of my Fireman Enterprise! I have been reading all the discussion about the Tudor Ranger, Omega Seamaster (Railmaster) and Rolex Explorer as tremendous explorer type watches. I have a DateJust, so I appreciate the credit given to Rolex, Tudor and Omega. However, when I think about pulling the trigger on on a Ranger, Seamaster or Explorer, I keep asking myself what I would get that is better than my Fireman Enterprise. I love the Tritium and the date, which I wouldn't have on at least two of the big three. Price?! I paid the price for a GS Spring Drive that I love. But, dollar for dollar, I have to say the Ball Fireman Enterprise is ahead in the top day-to-day watch category. It gets my vote for the best value "explorer" watch out there. Thanks for your quality reviews!
Still like this one. I consider selling it sometimes, but then I wear it again and it's just nice to have. It's my go-to movie theatre and anything at night watch. The shot at 6:25 is absolutely spectacular
I own a silver dial version. It's one of my favourites in my collection. A highly underrated watch and although it's one of Ball's entry level models, one of the best looking. Swopped out the bracelet for a mesh strap.
Love this watch for so many reasons. The lume, the size, the simplicity, the quality. It’s truly a GADA. Wish the clasp however, had an on the go adjustment function. It’s reminiscent for me of Sinn.
The fit and finish here looks outstanding for the price point, and I would love to try one of these on in-person. The watch has the looks of an elegant, luxury Swiss timepiece. What's crazy is that it's a hidden 'spec monster' and is absolutely within its depth as a tool watch. There are so many comparable "entry-level" Swiss brands that have specs and looks at this price point but they always seem to leave something to be desired, or they're trading on their brand name (looking at you Tissot)--this is a watch that really does have everything going for it, and handsome good looks, too. I really would love to try one on.
I hope you review more Citizen watches specifically their ‘super-titanium’ watches in the Attesa line. I feel like they’re sleeper good in terms of value. Lightweight, scratch resistant metal, and sapphire crystal, solar, and pretty cheap because no hype inflation. I’m a rough wearer, I tend to ding my watch on a lot of surfaces but my watch always comes out unscathed, They’re like the metal version of the Casioak.
Have this one and love it. Many elements that makes it great for the low cost, but it was the bracelet that drew me to it. Very tool-like and unique. I recommend checking out their Fireman collection. Great fit, premium finish for the price you pay, unique bracelet. Looking at my second ball currently. Another fireman, but the Ducks Unlimited one. Straight up a field watch, but same case and bracelet as this one.
Just purchased this watch from a local AD with the white/silver dial and love it! I do prefer dual deployant or fold over locking to this friction butterfly type clasp, but the uninterrupted bracelet look is appealing.
Funny how everyone says these are underrated. Who is underrating them? They have a good reputation and are COSC chronometers, every bit as well finished as a Rolex Explorer
Killing me! Yet another enticing video on Ball watches. I think this version has got my attention. I do need to save as my budget has been Seiko or Citizen. I recall you saying in the past....."Keep your eye on the prize!" My fear is that the Ball watch brand will now get more attention and start increasing prices soon! Still though....salivating for the day I pull the trigger. Great review!
I love and have Citizen eco drives. I dreamed if owning a Ball which I finally purchased last week. I did 6 mths of looking at all the good brands. Ball stood out big time for what yr getting for yr $. Im now the proud owner of a Fireman Victory.
I have a ball fireman racer which is the same case as this watch but with different dials and hands, it makes me not want to wear any other of my watches. Replaced the clasp and I am even more happy with it now.
Its a very nice option for the money, i’l stick to my Tissot Gentleman though, 80 hours of power reserve and similar level of finish is more than enough for me. This is still really nice though… good to have options within that budget.
If only this particular model family of Ball has a 36-38mm... But nonetheless, one of the more doable wristwatch for most of us. Great review of this piece Teddy
Ball watches are an acquired taste. However, once you experience one, you quickly learn to love it. They're quirky, but not in a bad way. Just different.
Got the Fireman Glory, which is basically the same as this, except the date is at 4:30, allowing for a full-length index at 3. Only thing I'm mad about: the date wheel isn't color-matched.
Have been wearing a BALL Trainmaster for the past few years with sub-second and I really enjoy the clear and just lovely display and the simple yet very effective movement. Thanks
I was waiting for this review for so long, amazing video. It would be great if you could show as standard the watch in at least 2 different wrist sizes in every review.
Good morning Teddy, do you think this Ball is better tan a Buen día Charly, consideras que este Ball es mejor que un Bell And Ross Officer Automatic, Montblanc Star Classique o un Tudor 1926 Automatic?
Interesting. I was looking yesterday at three videos for the Muhle Glashutte Panova. Similar pieces and price points. How would you compare one to the other?
what is the drop off of the tritium tube brightness? You said 15-20 years... Tritium has a half life of 13 years, so does that mean it is half as bright at that point or just starts dropping off sharply at that point? Also, does Ball offer a tritium replacement service?
@@MaskulineMale Oh it's perfect. It's just on the edge of maximum size for me but it's very flush and fits like a sports watch. Amazing quality and wearability. Best everyday watch so far.
I really love this watch and would have considered buying if it werent for that tubed lume. For a watch so simple yet elegant they could have done without the overly "tooly" feature of having that style of lume. Yes it will be great for when it gets dark. But why not keep the watch completely aesthetic instead of trying to add that unnecessary "fumctionality" which is in contrast with what else the watch seems to offer. Sad. I really loved the simplicity of this
Teddy, you're killing me. I've always had a fascination with watches and your video's are helpful and frustrating at the same time. Should I build a collection or get one or two expensive (to me) watches. Should I spread the wealth among a few watch makers, or build a brand loyalty and learn the history of the brand. Ball, Hamilton, and Longines I believe are my choices. Longines is killing it. But Ball is a company I can get behind. Love Hamilton's history. Stop making video's.
I love my Ball watch. It is great to wear and looks great. However, their military marketing is not something I am a fan of, and I won't likely look at buying another. But, its hard to fault the hard product.
I own a Ball Marvelight III and Tissot Gentleman. Both are excellent watches, but the Ball is better. Higher quality finish, weightier, chronometer. Not exactly apples to apples, as the Marvelight is more expensive, but definitely worth it. I love wearing both watches.
A few folks that own both claim the Tissot is not as well finished as the Ball. I have no idea though. I know they slowed the movement down to achieve a longer power reserve and some may prefer the higher beat rate/smoother second hand sweep. I like the grey and green dial gentleman.
I just want to warn the people making the same mistake I did. Don’t buy watches from small underdog companies. When you need a repair, you will get big headaches. I bought a Ball Engineer 1917 GMT limited edition which stopped working 3 weeks after receiving the watch. They needed 8 weeks to send me information for the repair. It’s now 4 weeks I sent the watch to Ball in Switzerland and I still haven’t received any information about the status of the repair😢. Just save your money and buy Omega or Rolex.
