This was an excellent video - very well explained. I had a shorted capacitor that was heating up the thermistor rapidly - pretty much exactly as described. When I took a suspect IGBT off the board it tested faulty and the machine turned on. Superb, thank you!!
I’ve had to repair so many of these for clients. I normally only do industrial repair and metrology related stuff for big factories and research labs…… but a lot of Friends/acquaintances/customers have bought one of the smaller cheap machines to weld at home or to start learning. I’ve been impressed with the quality of even some of the cheapest machines. I think they are perfect for most people, it’s just important to remember a few A few things. If the machine does not have a proper System to monitor temperature and cut out… A lot of new people who are learning don’t understand about proper “duty cycle.” So the most important thing….. is that if you have a smaller cheap welder and it does not have MULTIPLE points of thermal monitoring and cut out, you can still do something about it and make it a lot safer. Just buy one of the cheap $5-$10 thermal cut out power/outlet adapters on eBay….. and plug it into that first so that if it does overheat, it will cut out before it starts to explode. Just place the thermistor/temperature sensor in the welder at the hottest place inside the welder which is usually somewhere around the heat sinks and bulk capacitors. Some of the ones available on eBay and Alibaba have two or three different temperature monitoring sensors that come with them. Giving you the ability to monitor the temperature at multiple places inside the machine. And then it will cut out automatically so that you don’t have to worry about constantly watching your duty cycle/welding time. Because if it doesn’t have a way to monitor the temperature and cut power, and you don’t watch the proper duty cycle and thermal management REALLY CLOSELY, it will make a very loud bang and smoke for a little bit. Hopefully it won’t take out half of the circuitry inside and it will be repairable but it’s just easier to monitor the temperature from the beginning
really great and valuable points for equipment safety actually, many manufacturers who don't care abut their brand name's reputation OR some cheaters produce low quality items with some known brand name, which causes the loss for the end user. it is a huge loss for equipment and it oversees the human safety otherwise, at production level, if all safeties and protections are incorporated, that will make it long life and safe

If low voltage power supply stops functioning The bypass relay will not turn on and all the current will pass through ntc / ptc Which will cause to blast ptc (if there is ptc then its resistance will increase while the resistance of ntc will decrease with rise in temperature) In both cases the ptc / ntc may damage In upcoming sereis of welding machine repair i will try to cover all possibilities in full details
Good tutorial thanks for sharing but I have a challenge on how to calculate the value of the capacitor usually placed between the heat sink of every full bridge inverter and what is their function and some times you see four of them kindly explain in detail

Assalamualaikum sir. I have an inverter welding machine when turning on after a while the ptc heats up and the machine turns off then keeps turning on and off. I checked most parts of the circuit I didnt find any short circuit niether the mosfet nor IGBTs. I dont know what is the reason for this heat up ptc( 115 ohm ). I replaced the relay but same. The bypass circuit is before the bridge rectifire it works properly. The machine output is ok when turning on. I tried to replace this ptc with ntc it worked properly but after several time turning in and off the ntc blown up Sir if you can help
Hi Mr , I have a question ، i placed an ntc thermistor in a wheatstone bridge , and it gave me a totally non linear curve including a negative voltage ,it goes like 0°=4V , 10°= 3.5V , 20°= 1.5V , 40°=0.5V , 60°= -0.5V , 80°= -1V , 100°= -1.2V So how can I make it linear to complete the process of display it and so on .

Can you point out how to test the overheat circuit or do you have a video for it? When i restart the yellow lights goes off bit again first spark then it turns on.
Please make video on power supply why my DVDsony DAV DZ 151kb power supply is given over voltage on one pin in place of 6 i have found 8 .2 volt and when I connect connector with mother board my 3.3 volt is missing and voltage of 6 volt which is 9 volt in my MOSFET is drop half
