The Greatest Produced Spikeball/Roundnet Match (#2 Boysterous vs #4 Mammal)︱HTR

  • Content Creation and Production Quality.. this is HTR’s first stab at what we believe a high level Roundnet match should/could look like..
    5 different cameras and 3 mics were used during this production.
    Camera #1 Ryder on the Gimbal, walking around and getting film
    Camera #2 and #3 were stable on tripods, one a wide view of the play area, and one over the net doing slo-motion, shout out to Drucker for clicking start/stop every point! :)
    Camera #4 was on our beautiful commentators David & Olivia Jenkins
    Camera #5 we didn’t really use too much butttt it was strapped to our observer, Coleman Epperson’s head. Fun idea was to get the observers meeting and talking about the call.
    The mics.. #1 under the net to capture player commentary and ball swooshes.. which we all love so much. #2 was used for the commentators, I know shocker that we used a mic for that! #3 that we didn’t use.. again.. was on Coleman Epperson, our observer.
    Then obviously an enormous part of all this was Ryder’s editing skillz.. which he added score, a few transitions and ultimately spliced up all the footage and made it look NICE!
    Almost forgot.. This is between 2 of the top teams in the world.. so that’s pretty neat as well :)

      RyGuy___ B Drone would definitely be cool, would kind of be annoying to players and not good for sound but I like where your heads at. Don’t think a camera under the net would get much

    Have u considered playing no 2nd serves to reduce aggressiveness of serves and this promote more rallies?

    • @benbo34
      @benbo34 3 года назад +2

      Woah that’s a good idea... seven feet away in new rules is a step in right direction thoufh

    • @garrettc.44
      @garrettc.44 3 года назад +3

      The problem is without aggressive serving the return is to easy, because serves can’t have the same variance in direction as a normal possession.

    This was very fun to watch! The commentary kept the game moving right along in the slow spots. Maybe for commentary, spend more time explaining roundnet, fundamentals, and terminology, in case viewers who are new to/unfamiliar with the sport are watching. The instance I'm thinking of is when they said one of the serves was "lippy." My dad happened to be watching right then and he was like, "What's lippy??" lol! Also, the camera angles and slow mo replays... LIT. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

  • @mitchfrei1900

    My favorite part was the slomo replays. Something to improve on I think would be the announcers getting more hyped about the game to hype up the audience. Overall well done.
    P.S. Preston you're welcome for the idea of that lean serve on your right foot that you critiqued me on ;)

  • @isaiahbalter4883

    Love the replays you guys encapsulated serves, defensive positioning and defensive ups, finishes, serve receive, and setting. The different camera angles were great and helped you to follow who was teammates(as that is sometimes challenging for new people who don’t understand the sport). Commentary was great helping you to understand the flow of he game as well as some key points as to why another team seems to be doing better. Stats at the end were a nice touch to illuminate why it seemed to be such a different score. The replay and slow-no shots in between plays helps you understand how incredible fast paced this game can be. Serve ball seems to freak people out, we have both top level servers and serve receivers here. You can see Caleb and Preston were very very good at serve receive and recovery sets allowing them to finish or put away the ball where it made it tough for Josh and Kenny to play defense. Not that the defense wasn’t incredible. In game one you see Kenny in a phenomenal defensive position and as he opens up the ball goes in between his body and arm something you would only see on a slow motion replay and that was fun to see. I really appreciate the time, effort, and quality put into this video and feel there are few things to change. The sport is growing so determining how much you explain is challenging, the time you have in between serves to cut to a replay is really tough (that being said you did a great job slowing down and speeding up the video before second serve), David and Olivia were fun to listen to and helped you understand what was going on, unfortunately that may not happen every time wtb different commentators, but having the right ones really can help the audience. Overall, terrific job, much higher quality than even 2019 nationals in my opinion. Very similar to 2018 summer spike, but more replays and close shots vs. all boom lift shots (boom lift shots are pretty great though to see that 45 degree birds eye view of the net. Obviously, that is required some big resources and I am very impressed at this video. It’s so nice to have something that isn’t one point of view from a 4 and a half ft. GoPro. :) Big shout out to everyone involved in making this happen. I feel like high quality video makes it that much easier to share and help others find excitement in what has been said (sadly) as a boring sport to watch. Thanks for putting this out there.

    So nice! Loved the replays and the commenting. How hard was this to produce (like how many hours did this take to put together ultimately)? And was this done live or in post? A few things that would be cool...
    1. Stats (Aces, first serve ons, double faults, defensive gets, break points, etc.) but IN GAME, instead of post game/halftime.
    2. Color commentary on the players, again, in game.

    • @TheSuperdan13
      @TheSuperdan13 4 года назад

      The roundnet stats app needs a plugin where the commentators can see the stats as they come in instead of after the game. I can tell you this was edited in post (mainly the slow-mo), but the commentary was done live.

  • @Tiramis_

    Awesome content !
    I could see one or two changes, no big ones tho :
    - For observers, camera on the chest instead of the head would allow a better angle (more similar to the main angle) and also better stabilisation (even tho it wasn't a problem here)
    - For David's microphone, I feel like we had a bit of echo (most likely coming from Olivia's mic). Maybe lowering the sensitivity of the microphones, but increasing the output volume would help ?
    What was awesome to me is the great balance between slo-mo replays and no replays at all, it really fills the gaps of the game.

    I'm a huge fan of this format.
    I just recently started editing/recording the games between me and my friends. I'd love to incorporate some of the stuff from this video into mine.
    If you've got a excel template or a template for whatever you used for stats, I'd love to use it for our games. It's better than what I did for our last game where I kept stats.
    The whole video was very aesthetically pleasing. Looking forward to more. (Especially a tutorial video for Preston's game point serve. Yee-Yow)

Love the replays and different camera angles, although a couple of the angles are a lot better than the others. Stats are also awesome! I would like to see replays on all serves that are pockets/rollups. Also I would like to see a bit more polished commentating. Less play by play and less talking in general.

  • @TheSuperdan13
    @TheSuperdan13 4 года назад

    Something that would be cool if you Mic'd the players. Would be cool to hear the talk! Also think you need a close up cam on the serving player right before they hit

    • @HOWTOROUNDNET
      @HOWTOROUNDNET  4 года назад

      That would be cool, its hard with the commentators also talking at the same time but would be cool to sprinkle in here and there. Close up would be cool though would not want to get in the way too much of the play haha.

    • @TheSuperdan13
      @TheSuperdan13 4 года назад

      How To Roundnet you just need a camera with a long lens or zoom... no reason to get in the way. Also commentators can stop talking if they see players talking to each other, like in football they go silent before the play so the audience can hear the quarterback
