Festa San Giovanni and Calcio Storico - Florence at June 24

This is a colorful parade with medieval costumes takes place in Florence at June 24 - Festa San Giovanni and Calcio Storico. Florence celebrates the feast day of its patron saint, Saint John, with a football match and fireworks. The Calcio Storico (historic football match) pits teams from all four of Florence's districts - San Giovanni, Santa Croce, Santo Spirito, and Santa Maria Novella - in a soccer match in Renaissance costume. The spectacle takes place in Piazza Santa Croce, while fireworks and other fanfare take place in San Giovanni, the district where the Duomo is located.
