Hi everyone, this was done a while ago so I thought I'd put it out there before I start the new format, I still have 3 more parts to the ITALERI battle set to go and then we have the Airfix Waterloo battle set
👍 Thanks for the nostalgia memories… along with the usual Airfix, well remember ‘matchbox’ sets, which , maybe just fond memories… always seemed somehow better 🤔
I remember when these came out I was collecting airfix soldiers the matchbox soldiers I thought were better every set came with mortars and mg teams I also remember the battle sets they released they was a 1/32 set that had Americans and Germans a m20 scout car a couple of ruined buildings and a air pulp rocket launcher
Question did the box suggest to use desert tan instead of the realistic green uniform which Africa corps troops used? Another hit to throw at the figure sculpts is the use of shorts which only Tankers wore.
I'm not a fan of the Revell art work to be honest and yes the the top shirt shoud be olive Green. Shorts would be cut from trousers, however with the fall of Tobruk the Germans and Italians took a lot of British clothing....namely Shorts!
That’s a good point especially in the summer months “Those Brits think there so special with these shorts we’ll show them Hans here you wear these ones!” Lol
I think that the Matchbox figures were good in their day and are still pretty good now, with a nice selection of poses. Look forward to a review of the original Revell DAK set from the mid 90s.
Nice review. I really liked the Matchbox figures because of the quality of the mold, but it does seem these Matchbox guys all seem to look alike and are often a bit flat. Glad Revell brought these back but they are so different from Revell's own 1/72s (which is a nice set but a little redundant- how many water guys do you need?). The size difference is noticeable between the two. I've heard from two different hobby shops that the preference is for 1/76 figures rather than 1/72- not sure why as so many models seem to be 1/72. Some posses (the firing riflemen) are pretty good, but that running fellow with the submachine gun looks a bit silly and as much as a like the crewed weapon, it still seems damn flat. Which do you think is the best of the Afrika Corp sets? I rather like the Caesar and the Airfix is still a pretty good classic.
I gather from your comment about the socks being uniformal that you have never been in the military? . As in all aspects of military life you are told EXACTLY how to wear them, how many times to fold them down etc.. Failure to comply results in punishments. This was the same then for both the DAK and 8th army as it is now.

Memories! I remember these figures being the 1st I bought as Matchbox when I was 10. Thanks for sharing. Great review.
Thanks Rik! Can't beat good memories!

Fantastic sets!
I am happy to see some damn nice revell miniatures! I do wish matchbox was still around though.
Yes it's a bit disappointing really
Thanks for the review. Interesting to see two 8th Army prisoners included in this set... I've never seen that before.
Yes and the British set has German Prisoners Mark
In this particular context it does make some sense i guess. Two armies in direct combat with no third parties present (Italians don't count).
@@marks.6480 I thought the write up was wrong, i'm pretty sure the Italians and Germans outnumbered the British till El Alamein
Yeah i know... i was only joking. Still ,the only reason the Afrika Korps existed was because the Italians were losing bigly.
@@marks.6480 True Mark!

@@ericrush3495Aye they were the days!
How come the 1/76 set had more poses than 1/32 version ?

Yes it's a lovely set however come up short on pose number and too many 'behind the lines poses' probably needs a further set of figures
@@TOYSOLDIERREVIEW Agreed given that there are only 10 poses. However, I think that the HMG is the best representation in that scale and in 1/35.
@@stephenhunt2806 They do look great, no doubt about that Stephen, they have a great sculptor working for them thats for sure

What do you mean eldon?
The 1/32 version of this is very good
Will check it out, i had the 8th Army set which was great
Seems like you are into North Africa Campaign thats awesome not enough modelers do that Hopefully you make a beautiful diorama
The IronLeopard
I had these for a while and just forgot I had them!
this set is very good! could you maybe send the link of where you got them from? (if you got them online)
Ebay!
@@TOYSOLDIERREVIEW oh any sites in particular?
@@LimitWIS Amazon sometimes have these, eBay might be best as Amazon prone to squashing the box through letterbox!
