Please do a vid on editing
This was absolutely, by far, the best explanation of this I've seen. As someone who is new to this and learning on a GoPro Hero 8, this helped me so much. Thank you!!
can’t wait for the new Adobe Skittleshop version to come out, it’s rumored to be a true life saver
I watch RUclips videos all the time for product reviews, tutorials etc. but this is the first time ever that I have given a comment. They say that Einstein once said... "Example isn't another way to teach, it is the only way to teach!" This video is live example of what he said. You explained it so so so well. Bravo! At first I thought you talk too much with those candies and all but never knew when I watched the whole video without skipping a second. You helped greatly for finding right settings for my Gopro video shooting. Thanks a bunch!
Love the video! Getting my hero 8 this week. Can't wait. I'm getting a head start on how to use everything. Your videos are really easy to follow and learn from. Thanks
Waz-up! David, I been following your video's way back when you only had 432 k subscribers, so congrats on your growth . I hope you and your family are doing Great! and also congrats on your newborn! they are a great blessing. From watching your video's I decided to get my very 1st action camera, I got the Go Pro hero 7 Black just a few days ago, one of the things I like most about your videos is that down to earth Sincereness to want to help people, and the natural humor you display also makes viewing them more enjoyable. The one thing that makes me laugh a little is when you are trying to make the video long enough or not run out of things to say, I know the pressure is on now that you have that newborn to be able to keep valid content flowing. So I just wanted to share a few things that I think can help. And at the same time help someone like me just starting out! ( yes, I am a nuub at the whole making video's thing ) if you can please make video's on for example " Now that I got the Go Pro hero 7 black, and learn the way to set it up, and what setting you recommended, and took all my very 1st video content, what to I do from here? I know there is a Go Pro app. and it recommends using your cell, but I hear it is very limited to just 60 sec of video. what about those of us that rather use a tablet , laptop, pc, or I think you said you use an i-pad, there are many ways people can go from there, and quite a few Video's you can make on how to's, for example I rather use my Samsung Tab A instead of cluttering up my Galaxy S8. To download and edit my footage, how do one view the content they just recorded , and how do they then transfer and edit?, what editing software do you recommend? how do you use it? what are the do's and don't' stuff like that would be Great! I will be looking forward to them new video's coming out REAL soon!... hahaha just helping to keep you busy.
all the best! Ray
Thank you so much Ray, super kind of you! Also, super stoked that you've got a GoPro now! I'll for sure get some of those video ideas you mentioned into the video queue!
As for editing, I edit in Adobe Premiere Pro, but checkout Adobe Premiere Rush if you're just getting going with things. I think you'll really like how easy it is to put together your footage into super fun videos!
And thanks for keeping me busy Ray 😉
Best explanation Ive seen. Thanks David.. Subscribeddd

Cheer to Australia Robyn! Love to hear that it helped!
Excellent content as always 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Never going to look at frame rates the same again. Thank you for making this so simple. You're officially one of my faves.
Also purple skittles rule.
Haha! Love it Lucy, thank you so much! Candy analogies are the best 🤣

Subscribed! You made this explanation about framrates so clear and understandable to people that are confused and never understood at all. Good on ya bud!
Thanks Rick! I’m so stoked that this was helpful brother👍
I've never heard this broken down so thoroughly. Great analogy. I like lemon-lime and other tart things, so my favorite skittles are the green and yellow ones
I didn't need it, but that explanation was sooo good, just subscribed
Great breakdown! Love the visual representation!
Thanks Levi! Helps my simple mind to see things laid out in front of me😉
Mate, bloody good series, just fantastic champ, well done, well explained and well presented. All the best.. One learning videographer here Phill from Australia :-)

Thank you David, I was watching this vlog while eating cookies, now I’m cleaning the table because I laughed so hard right when you simulated slo-mo. You’re so entertaining!
Hahhaaa! Thanks you Monica, you're super kind! Sorry about the mess 🤣
For years I've loved both Skittles and Wintergreen Life Savers. We must have something in common. As for favorite Skittle color, if it fits in my mouth, is a great color!
Well explained. Thank you sir. You deserve 1 million subscribers 👍🏻
Yes! Love your vids!
This explanation is so good thank u!!!
Almost a year late to subscribe. Adam Scott reference and your perfect explanation are SPOT ON. Loved it!!!
Daaaammmnnnnnn, that was incredible! I teach and I try and use visuals and analogies all the time. That one was amazing! And I sooooooooooo get it. My anatomy footage is going to look stunning from now on. THANKS.
Love it Chris! Analogies are like 85% of the way I learn. Things make so much more sense to me that way. So stoked this helped man!
Great video man! Just love the way you explained it!
Thanks Avinash! Appreciate the support!
Orange is my favorite. Thank you. I am new to this world and this helps a lot.
Love it Irish Bauer! And orange is for sure the best 🙌

Just what I needed ! Thank you bro :D Love your work
So stoked w00zi!
Thanks for this dude...you are a life saver...
You do such a great job David! Your Vlog's are so informative and entertaining. The "What", the "How" and the "Why" has been beautifully demonstrated. Now, we get to good part in Premier - what the heck do I do now. You answer that perfectly, so thanks a million.
Great example at 24 fps
So stoked this video was helpful! If you have any questions as you dig into Premiere, let me know!
Brilliantly explained man!
Good quality and content. Subbed
Excellent video with the Skittles. Looking forward to sharing it with my daughter (who is slightly math challenged). I know she'll appreciate what you've done here.
Love it man, This will help me get better drone footage for my channel! It always comes out really choppy. Thanks man!
Absolutely! Look into ND filters as well. I'll have a video soon on video shutter speed that should help get things looking real smooth for your drone footage!
Your life saver/skittle analogy was brilliant. Makes a lot of sense.
love your videoes!
Your use of the Skittles was a great way to explain the subject. Enjoy your videos and keep up the great work.
Thanks Cesar! And thanks for watching!
Great explanation. Thank you for sharing
Absolutely Ansari! Thanks for watching!
Hey David. I just subscribed yesterday and think you’re great. You also remind me of the successful brother in step brothers.👍🏻 but nice.

Such an amazing way to explain it!
Now I want skittles
Hahhaa! Just responding to comments on here is making me want skittles! Stoked you liked the visual, even as a refresher it's always helpful to have delicious visual representations 🤣

Kuddos from Morocco bro. Thank you
Kuddos to Morocco!!!
Thanks man, this was very helpful and easy to digest:)
Well you're welcome! A tutorial so easy even a dog can understand it!🤣🤣🤣
great work
Awesome I actually finally understand how it works!
Explains a lot! I didn't know how slow motion and frame rates work. Now I get why some of my slow motion is baaaad. Skittles. All colors are my fav. Excellent analogy.
Hahaha! Yup, skittles are just generally good! Stoked that this helped out Kendall!
thank you so much! this helped alot
Dude thank you so much! That makes so much sense to me! I’m a visual learner so by doing this, you have helped me understand this super easy concept! My only thing is, since I use iMovie and Final Cut Pro, I cant seem to find how to change my timeline frame rate like you said you can do in Premier. I will keep looking and try to find videos on how to do that. Thanks man!
Green all the way!
I'm not positive that you can do it in iMovie, but you can for sure do it in Final Cut!
You rock! I love the analogy
I really LOVED how you explained this. You have a new sub and a like from me.
You are a good teacher.
Best description. Thanx
Stoked that this was helpful!
Thank you. very helpful video. i just realized the mistake i was doing while editing my videos.
I love hearing that! Mistakes are just part of the creative process!
I love how you make me laugh and learn at the same time.
Also . . . green FTW.
Old green Lime, or NEW Green Apple?
David Manning I forgot about the green apple, so I’d have to go with lime
Great explanation,!
thank you, now i know how to make a slowmo . great vid
loved the explanation. thanks
What about bringing together multiple clips on a timeline and only 1 or 2 being slow motion in the end edit?
Super easy to do CJ. You'll choose your timeline's real time frame rate, either 24fps or 30fps. Real time clips filmed at one of those frame rates, you'll just drop onto the timeline. Then clips filmed at 60fps will be dropped onto the timeline and then their speed reduced to 50%. And clips filmed at 120fps will be dropped on and reduced to 25% speed. You can have clips of all different speeds on a timeline no problem👍
Hahaha Dave, that was a awesome video man, loved the way you explained the frame rates.
Stoked you liked it Destination Offroad! Everything makes more sense with candy 🤣
Oh! Good stuff pal!
Good stuff David.
Thanks Ron!
Best description of timelines and frame rates ever. Now just gotta help people figure out audio drift. haha
My, almost 9 year, son loved your explanation - BTW he likes the purple ones ;) THANKS
Hahhaa! love hearing that Philip!
Very cool!!
Can you make a video about great shots on the GoPro?!
Like tips to getting great shots?
I plan to use my gopro hero 8 for swim stroke technique analysis during my next swim practice. Do you have any recommendations for shooting underwater at an indoor pool with medium/low light conditions?
Great videos, keep it up! Thanks.
Thanks for the good advice hope you can reach 20k very soon
Thanks Chieftan! You just need to tell about 3.5K of your friends! 🤣
Good education David thank you. I need to find your recommended editing software for beginners. Apple and gopro does not cut it any longer.
Checkout Premiere Rush. Pretty solid! For a step up from that, check Davinci Resolve👍
Hey David, what a great example you used! Love metaphors when explaining concepts! I absolutely agree with everything apart from one part which I would like to challenge and debate a bit. You said that 240 frames per second (FPS) vide would look wonky if played back in 24 FPS timeline. I don't agree, because technically 24 FPS footage is exactly this, in the gap of 1/24 of a second a picture is taken. It doesn't really matter if you take it from a matrix of the GoPro or from one of the 240 skittles. The real difference is the quality of that skittle! If you film in 240 FPS your shutter speed is super fast, so less light is captured, so, no good for a darker environment. Finally, there will be no stabilization available at all too. My suspicion is that GoPro shots 240 all the time, it then just uses 10 frames for stabilization of each 24 FPS skittle. Anyway, happy to discuss!
Just found your channel dude! Great big 👍🏼 and sub from me. Love this explanation of FPS vs Timeline! Have watched a load of your films and have learned soooooo much about stuff I thought I already knew - but apparently not so much 🤣
Thanks for making a great channel and really glad I decided to click that first one of your films that popped up in my search (for GoPro 8 tips by the way). Stay safe and stay strong! 👍🏼
Oh, by the way, Yellow Skittles for the Win!
Welcome aboard and thank you so much for the kind words! Stoked to have you here!!!
David Manning good of you to reply buddy. Not many people with 50k+ subs would get back to everyone! Hope Covid lockdown is treating you ok. My channel is called Wild Astro and is a wild camping and Astrophotography channel so REALLY struggling to stay mentally fit at the moment. Keep up the great work, all the best to you and your family.
Love the videos David! I’ve been using the GoPro Hero 7 black with the native white balance ever since watching your video on the best GoPro settings but I’ve been struggling to color grade. Would really appreciate a video seeing how you grade your footage when using the native white balance and flat picture profile!
Sure thing man, I’ll add that to the video queue!
@@DavidManningvlog yes plz do!
super helpful. tyty!
thank you very helpful
WOW!!!Finally, i understand now..Thank you!!
Awesome Liviu! Stoked this was helpful!
that organization is so satisfying
I’m here to satisfy Nick 👍
As always David, awesome video and love the analogy, I too am a visual person. I’m a little smarter today on frame rates. Red skittles are my favorite lol.
Oh red skittles! They'll always have a special place in my heart 🤣
Am I the only one craving for skittles!? 🤣🤣 Very elaborate and informative.
Awesome!
Ooops, I almost forgot! A BIG Shout out to Morgan, we definitely appreciate your support to David in making all these Great Videos (with the baby and all) we don't want to lose a great teacher! thanks for your Patience.
Thanks David you're a lifesaver. Ok corny. I wish I saw this when I first started. I shot 30 fps and some 60 for slow motion, I thought I had to make it an even number for it to drop evenly. I will try the 24 frame timeline to see which I prefer. I will edit on 24 timeline and with the hero 8 I will check out the higher frame rates.
I like to crank my frame rate up to 11! Haha. Love your videos. Thank you so much!!
Why don’t you just make 10 louder and make 10 be the top number and make that be a little louder?
thanks for the info!
Great analogy! My two favorite candies as well. The visual thing works best for me, too. It finally makes sense. THANKS!
My favorite Skittle color is Red, but my favorite Skittle Flavor is Green. Is green a flavor? Actually, as I think about it, my favorite is which ever one I'm chewing on at the moment. That's fair.
just subscribed and learning a lot. You are pretty dang funny too lol
Very good
Question for David: You explained that when you edit a 120fps clip to a 24fps timeline without SloMo you have to drop frames. Makes sense. But why is the output jittery? The frames you drop are just frames you would never have captured in the first place if you had filmed the clip at 24fps. So why does it look different?
Great question Damian! I'll have a video coming out really soon about shutter speed and ND filters that's going to shed some more light on the subject. Unfortunately, to create a video that goes over shutter, frame rate and aperture, it would need to be a couple hours long! Hahhaa! Keep an eye out for that one coming up!
@@codymont Yes he was. He just didn't know it.
When you shoot at 120fps, the camera uses a faster shutter speed than when you shoot at 30fps. So each of the 120 frames has less "motion blur" than the 30fps frames, hence the harsch looking footage when you convert 120fps to 30fps.
Really good analogy - it certainly helped me :)
Love to hear it Ramses!
FANTASTIC, I am loving the Sweet tips & tricks. Keep em coming (in between being Daddy & Hubby & everything else). I like the iPhone XS Max & its 240fps is so darn good. The GPH7B has a great picture and love both these cameras. I also like to slow down 24fps in post FCPX (also works for me) Take care mate 👍🏻
Thanks iSpike! Crazy that our iPhones are now doing 240fps! That's insane!!!
