For me, the headlights were a let down. It’s frustrating that they facelifted the GLE to have the double eyebrow drls, to then remove it from the e class, or at least made it less prominent.

agreed with you on the new GLE. The way it sits, proportions, fender bulges/flares and the more level hood to a more masculine broad shouldered look really did wonders for it. I was never a fan of GLE/ML designs prior to the current one and if you look at all of them lined up it's not like the new one is vastly different in it's design components/themes but in execution it is far better than previous iterations.

I like this new facelift better than the original 5th gen, but my modern favourite is still the 2013 facelifted 4th gen, it has some sharper bodylines, and is a bit boxier. Most current Mercs are too round and "melted cheese". This focus on more horizontal lights/graphical elements for the new 2020/2021 models is an improvement, but not a big step away from this roundness. Unfortunately, your redesign doesn't really help this, and doesn't remind me of an old E-class either. Props for giving it a go!

8:03 so by solving the 'problem' you just decided not to sell e class in the USA anymore? because those lights in that small surface area cant pass the regulations. there is a reason why car brands don't let their designers to run wild. you did the same in the Ferrari video too and the result was a mix of a racecar bed and bathtub and don't forget by making the front sharper you violated another regulation(this time pedestrian) especially for the NA market.
to be fair for the most of the time I agree with what you are saying and even coming from but in practice your answers to these 'problems' not really solving issues and creating new ones, costly ones.

They probably did this because they wanted to attract more younger buyer’s. Still I regard it as a mistake, but obviously only for their sedans and wagons. My favorite Benz by the way is the pagoda SL W113 line. Everything looks fabulous including the interior which looks so much more classy than the carbon interiors of today.

They should have added a touch of uniqueness to the front end to differentiate it more from the A-Class; at least keep the double-stripe headlights. This is supposed to be about two ‘steps up’ from the A.

I like the new back end, and if you ignore Audi, Acura, Ford and Hyundai in the front, it's pretty good as well. However, Mercedes seems to be copying everybody else, and being unfashionably late to that party. It's cool that there are now two different grille shapes available, and three different grilles all together.

I like what you did with the tail lights 👍 I think they do that to attempt to visually widen the rear of the car, and it may not be as successful as they would like. (I think it also makes the rear look very similar to what everyone else is doing). You are right, your change does make the whole rear seem more like one piece (almost like a modern version of a kamm back) . Thanks!

I don’t mind the rear so much, except that the bumper seems to be sticking out a bit too much compared to the tailgate. Kinda like that car has a fat ass. It’s the front I don’t like. I think the current generation of the E class (and most other Mercedes) are beautiful cars, very harmonious and elegant. And then they started introducing new models - A class, GLE, now the E Class as well - that do away with the eyebrow-like DLRs and replace them with these sharply bent ones. To me they look pinched. Like someone got their hands on a clay model and put the thumb on one headlight and the forefinger on the other and then pinched them together, distorting everything. Now these sharp DLRs don’t match the smooth curves of the rest of the car anymore. Also, I was very much a fan of the 1 eyebrow - 2 eyebrow - 3 eyebrow thing as you went up the ladder from compact to midsize to full size. Seems like that is pretty much gone now, too. Plus, the new headlights give the car a much more angry and...constipated?...expression instead of the refined one they had so far. All in all, I wish they hadn’t taken the design in this direction...

This looks like a stretched A-Class. I think the pre facelifted model looks better. Eventhough you could barely tell it apart from the C and S-Cass.
With the recently leaked S-Class pics, it seems the new S and C class will once again look like this facelifted E class.

I like how it doesn’t look like a C-class anymore. I might be one of few that actually think this design is a much needed upgrade. Could it be better? Absolutely

im a big fan of mercedes benz.. for me, this design are best, nothing wrong with it. the backlight are good enough but merc benz maybe can it a little bit larger,, but i didnt like the photoshop result, it doesn't MATCH to the body.
for headlight maybe make it more tough like CLA coupe but make it a little bit of edgy.

I like the direction mercedes is going with their design, however the sporty shark like design sometimes makes their cars look to fish like, especially with their grill. However, I disagree when it comes to their rear exterior design. The slimmer, slicker taillights accompanied by the chrome strip connecting the taillights is something I've wanted on all vehicles since the S-class coupé concept.

Opinion time. New gen design with curves and melting icecream theme is awful. I loved facelift W212, W213 is alright but facelift is just bad now. E coupe, S class coupe and C class are pretty much the same like Audi’s half brain designs. Why does CLS have the same front as A-class. And what’s up with the rear... Same goes for New E class - ugly headlight. CLA is the best looking car since it’s the only one where this rear design template worked, and GLC too. Boxy Mercs looks much better imho. GLE especially coupe looks like a bubble, and not in a pagani Tear shape way, just piece of jelly or goo. Fingers crossed for C and S
