Massive props to the dev team for hiring real, actual people to play the soundtrack. The actual strings being played is very noticeable, instead of synthesized music. Sounds so authentic and I can't get over it. THANK YOU DEVS, and a bigger thank you to all who played the instrument so well. It sounds so good.
Thank you so much! Patrik Jarlestam, the composer of the music of Valheim, hired me to play viola and clarinet. So lovely to hear people are enjoying the music and the game. I am so thankful to have been a part of this amazing project. In a time when so many musicians have lost work due to the pandemic, it’s fantastic to be able to do something like this. If anyone is interested in hearing some completely different music played by real musicians, I just released an experimental album with Sydney collective Microfiche over on bandcamp.
Look, it’s a totally different vibe, but I’ve gotta try get it out there somehow! :) Thanks and enjoy the game!

First time sailing and hearing that soundtrack was possibly one of the most awesome game moments

I could feel the wind blowing in my hair.
I sailed for 20 years. This Game feels so fucking real on water that i Always steer with the waves and the Wind Something you dont need to do because the Ship sails straight automatically. Never had that experience in a Game
It took a long time but I'm so happy we got the theme just right for that feeling when sailing :-)

It's fun seeing more and more people write about the clarinet. It's a beautiful instrument and should be used more, same as for the viola :-) I'm so happy that this has all turned out so well and that people are loving it!

@@Harrmoir I fell in love with this music, but there is no clarinet, so I found the notes by ear for the flute. It turned out great. I play C. Meadows → 1 ♭ and Home Base → 3 ♭, right? I understand that there are other signs for the clarinet (in B), but still ...

I am 22 years old and with quarantine and college I’ve been suffering from pretty bad anxiety and depression for the past year. I saw this game and decided to give it a try and just wow. The gameplay, the music, I’ve found in this game a little oasis from the chaos of everyday life. To the developers, Patrik, and the musicians, thank you for bringing to me some dearly needed peace in my life. This soundtrack is becoming the happy place in my head I go to when things get tough. Best experience in a game I have ever had! :)

The music for sailing is out of this world. Absolutely magical when you embark on a boat for the 1st time your music is a HUGE part of why it was so magical. TY!

28:16 The first time I encountered a Sea Serpent, I was so nervous and scared because I was holding 4 full stacks worth of Iron back to my base and as soon as that Serpent roared at me... I was like "Oh this is NOT good".
First time we saw a serpent I was with my husband crossing from one island to the next. Then it appeared behind us and I was yelling at my husband across the room to make the raft go faster lol

Does anybody else ever come to a near anxiety attack when they hear the Black Forest Music? It's so good, but I'm always so tense listening to it XD
It exactly the right balance it seems of suspense, horror, mining drudgery and darkness, muhaha!
It always reminds me of the Blood Elf starting area music in WoW.
Yeah, the music makes it feel like you're never completely safe there.
I am quite a scaredy cat playing games, and honestly for a long time I had to turn off the music to be able to run through the black forest.
I just started listening to The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky, it gives off similar vibes to the Black Forest Music. I think there are some inspirations from classical music in this soundtrack. The Meadows theme for example reminds me of Sibelius violin concerto.
Honestly the home base track... It sure hits different than most other "hub" themes. This actually has a feeling behind it, as it conveys safety in a rather nostalgic way. It is one of those themes that makes you FEEL as if you are home, and, for somone that didn't feel that in a long time, it sure as hell got me emotional. I'd dare say it even surpasses Majula's and Firelink shrine's theme from the dark souls series.
Props to the composer and the performers, you did a goddamn good job.

I've worked a lot with early music musicians before so I've written a fair bit for baroque instruments (recorder, arch lute, baroque strings section, and for my bachelor exam project I wrote for baroque orchestra) and so I love to include these instruments in hidden or non-hidden ways.
In the homebase music it's baroque wooden traverse flute (played sideways, as modern flutes) together with theorbo (which is a long lute, you should check this awesome instrument out!) and percussion. Your base should be a nice and meditative plays to be, and I think these more unusual instruments and the melody help give it a unique feeling :-)

I think this is one of the things the game really succeeds at overall. The building mechanics, food system, and everything is based around having a comfortable home.
@@Harrmoir The home theme makes me feel safe and cozy, yet also nostalgic. It captures the simple fact that your player character is in fact dead and Valheim is an afterlife they are consigned to.
Boss battle themes are fucking metal!

Getting to combine orchestral and metal music has been a long standing dream and it all came together in Valheim :-) Now I just need to buy and 8-string...or 9-string... (It's my friend's 7-string on the soundtrack and my 5-string bass)

@@Harrmoir For some odd reason, metal works extremely well in the Nordic setting when used sparingly. The Eikthyr theme especially made you genuinely feel as though in the presence of something scary, something greater. Your work on this track is legendary! I can't stop listening to the main menu and sailing themes.

The clarinet melody in Meadows 5:32 is absolutely stunning. When I first played the game and was wandering around and that melody came on, I just dropped whatever I was gonna do just to listen to it, because it's so rare for me to hear real instruments being played by real musicians in games, especially on my preferred instrument. Would love to find the sheet music to just that part someday.

Me and my friend thought we'd both contribute 1 head. Didn't work, so we both contributed another. That's when we learned that you can summon 2 Eikthyrs at once... Fortunately, I had over 2000 hours on the Soulsborne series, so it wasn't too bad. My buddy wasn't as lucky and died twice, lmao!
But yeah, that's one hell of a memory. Playing this game blind is really damn difficult, almost impossible at times, but it is so rewarding because of moments like these.

I will never forget this soundtrack. Home Base sounds nostalgic to me, even though the game isn't old
That low and haunting music that signifies nighttime coupled with the game getting dark suddenly and the message "You Feel Cold" get me every time and send me hurrying back to my base.
This soundtrack is just incredible. The melodies of all the biomes and even the stark contrast of the boss battles with those heavy metal riffs absolutely immerse me in the Nordic world. Hats off to Patrik and the musicians who made this!
It's was really fun to get to use a big part of my compositional knowledge and arsenal on this project, since it's a mix of a lot of music that I love! Hoping to get to write for choir for this game as well as it's something that I love!

Words can't describe the music I am listening to while playing this game. It's like I'm listening to my childhood and its so nostalgic already, but it's still new! Amazing game with amazing music. I hope this game succeeds really big up in the future.
The beginning of the Plains music literally gives me goosebumps. The composer really captured the feel of the biome.

I absolutely love how perfectly the 'Forest is Moving' tracks transition into eachother. It sounds so satisfying.
the black forest theme is probably one of the coolest themes for a biome in a game ever. it comes as a massive gut punch since its the first challenging biome you come across, and the music conveys that very well. welcome to the slow burn slog that is valheim, buckle up. and mind the trolls.
When the music of a game doesn't only remind you of that game but also someone you used to play it with ... A., you will never see this, but I really miss our adventures. Never made it through the darkness of the swamp.
The mountain soundtrack hits you different man
18:24 first time seeing a Draugur, and this part of the ost kicked in. An army of the dead... eyes glowing in the mist, ready to enact their vengeance upon the living. Awesome track!
I'm gonna drop this here, I'll come back when I'm done with college and remember how this music helped me through it

Patrik Jarlestam absolutely killed it here. This is so nuanced and patient and interesting and respectful to what it is accompanying. Elevated every second of this game and I can't get over how good this is. Iron Gate games has the formula figured. Thanks for mixing this!
When I first played this game recently, it felt like the first time I played Minecraft in 2011. It brought back those experiences for quite some time and still to this day.
This is so incredible and amplifies everything you're supposed to feel in a gameplay x100. I feel a range of emotions I didn't think I was able to feel. Thank you so much.
Been a couple of months since I played and missed the music so came here to listen a little bit. The swamp theme especially, it hits me every time, so dark and saddening but soooo good. When the violin starts I get goosebumps every time. I think this is the only game I’ve ever played for hundreds of hours with only the in game music on and never anything else.
almost 70 hours, 100+ days on game into this gem, convinced like 4 friends and my brother to play it , it's BEAUTIFUL , just beautiful, a true gem

I’m already coming here because of nostalgia (I played yesterday evening)
I had trouble convincing my friends to join me in this game, as they were understandably burned out on open world survival crafting games. But they made the jump and now they all agree with me it's the absolute best game in its genre in a long, long time. It does everything right and we're having an absolute blast with it. And the soundtrack is amazing as well.
A big thank you to the developers and composer for this warm campfire of a game in these dreary times.

Only game i wont turn off the music on. The soundtracks fit so Perfect to every enviroment. Not only are they beautifully composed but the immersion with these sounds make the gaming experience so much better

Love all the themes! I thought I had heard the best songs 50 hours in, then I hit the Plains and now I have a new favorite Valheim tune. Great work!
Of course the whole soundtrack is incredible, and the fact that people come here to listen to it after hearing it on repeat for hundreds of hours in-game speaks to how great it is. On a note I haven't seen anyone else mention, it's neat to finally hear the Swamp music. It's played so quietly in the game, and drowned out by the ambience, that you can barely make it out.

been playing with a group of 3 other friends. we love to sail and hear the gorgeous melody lift our sails! it's amazing, the feeling of trying to swing the boat 'round a swampy island so a friend can snag their gravestone and hop back in -- somehow a track so beautiful is also so tense in certain moments. the music in this game is just flawless.
Its been a week playing this game and I'm already very attached to this beautiful soundtrack. In about 5 years I'll be listening to this through waves of nostalgia for 2021.
I began this game with 3 other friends, who sadly and quickly stopped playing. I however steeled myself and squared my shoulders for the task ahead, and one by one the foul beasts of the land fell to my blade until I alone stood champion of my world

Sailing theme, hits me differently. Those melodies in 29:30, are something else.
Im deeply thankfull for Valheim in general during quarentine and as a person who enjoys playing and listening to music, this gotta be one of the most immersive songs i've heard so far in a game!

This game creates an adventure no other game could create and the music is already making me feel nostalgic of when I made my first base and quickly found out what the Black Forest is in early game also the most memorable and greatest moment I remember on this game was when I set sail for the first time that song made that experience great and the great thing about this game is that when you look at the map you remember what happened and it feels like you make your own story on just a map you remember when you got ambushed by a troll in that area or got killed by a tree right next to your base and the soundtrack is what brings the adventure to life and we are only a few weeks in even if this game was finished now it would still be a gem this game deserves all the recognition it’s getting and I can’t wait to see where it goes-A Very Happy Viking
This game is truly something special! I have tried many games, and I am very picky when it comes to survival games. For example, No mans sky is too complex for my liking. Sea of Thieves is a bit too repetitive/grindy. Minecraft is good, but, after many years it's nothing special. Valheim though, the first time I played it it was magical, the systems and simplicity made it so nice, reminded me of a mixture of when I first played World of Warcraft and Minecraft. And it's only in early access, this game will have much more to offer in the future and it's already very good. The music is also amazing!
I gotta say it, meadows is a fucking masterpiece.

Moder soundtrack is one of the best of the entire OST.
But all Valheim musics are so good, they translate perfectly the feeling of playing. They're so relaxing and honeslty are 100% responsible of my live for the game (solo server ofc).

Something about playing this game for the first time with your friends was so magical and special... I cant really tell what.
I'm 31 and by now I have played 3490 games like this, even before it came out, but something about Valheim was very special... Something just felt really, really right. I wish I could feel this magic feeling again.
Started playing this with some friends. First time out with a bunch of us on the ocean "sailing" is epic

The Elder Soundtrack is so epic!
So much fun to make! Heavy and triumphant. It's like it's been in the forests since eternity.
I love all of it, but especially the Elder theme. The chorus gave me massive chills the first time I fought the Elder and it just feels overall epic. Probably the best soundtrack of any game I've played, next to the Gothic series.
