Sorry about your dad Arne. That generation were remarkable. My gran died at 95 and until she broke her hip shortly before, she hadn't seen a Dr since her last son was born, 55 yrs beforehand. Amazing! She took 2 aspirin for everything. She was just a housewife but really that was an art in her day. She made the best brawn out of all the meat scraps, wasted nothing, and Cornish pasties. She cooked on a coal fire all her married life. Her hobbies were orchid breeding, gardening, she could grow anything, and budgies, small sweet colourful talking Australian birds. Thanks for the memories. We're in lockdown here in Eastern Australia so your podcast is sorely needed. Xx
Thank you so much for sharing your life with all of us during these '15 minute' podcasts - your charming stories, funny inside jokes, cultural insights, talented skills and general camaraderie are the perfect tonic to everything going on in the world right now! You have been missed.
I think that anyone who might be suffering from melancholy needs to watch this episode. Is there anything more delightful than watching Arne licking the bowl and look endearingly at the beater. What fun. I am so glad you are back. We missed you
Hoorah!! Like many others I have been binge watching previous episodes of A&C Sit and Knit for a Bit, and back catalogue content while you have been away. With all the trouble in the world at the moment ,you guys chatting for '15 mintues' is a refreshing distraction for me (and thousands of others!). Watching your episodes (and can I admit to rewatching episodes?) actually brings me a lot of joy. Thank you so much for doing what you are doing. Paula xo
Did you see the size of Arne's eyes when Carlos said, "Cream"? I think the space station called saying 2 more globes were spotted in Northern Europe.....It is delightful that he doesn't gain a pound, stone nor kilo. To be so blessed. Thrilled to hear you are in good health. Please stay that way for much, much longer.
Carlos, it is very good to learn about your personal story of complications & recovery from long covid. Very informative, evidence of what can happen to a healthy man, how long recovery has taken with very good, affordable health care. Thankyou, I have learned so much, the generosity, humility & kindness that you & Arne express is so heartening. You certainly deliver joy un bucketfuls 😙
I’m very sorry to hear about your father Arne, 91 is a good age to reach, but he is still your father. My dad will be 90 after Christmas and I try to spend good times with him so I won’t have regrets once he’s gone. I must say your looking very healthy now Carlos, hope your back to normal 👍 Lovely to see you both back 💚🌷💜
Coming from NZ, pavlova is our traditional Xmas dessert, often covered with strawberries and cream. My mother, and hers before, always uses the yolks to make lemon curd then folds that into the whipped cream. It's so delicious and there's no waste.
I am glad you have each other at this rough time, you can't help but watch you two and see how much you love and support each other. My warmest thoughts.
My dear Arne and Carlos, I wanted to express my condolences to you. And thank you so much for this beautiful video. You definitely Inspire others to cultivate true Love, happiness and beauty. God bless you.
😁Arne, you made me laugh when you had to lick the bowl. 👨🍳 Carlos, the cake collapsing is actually part of the recipe to ensure that there is enough room for all the berries. Glad that you’re back!
Thank you for being together to help Arnie’s fathers last year. I appreciate your sharing the news of his passing. I loved Arnie telling stories of his father and the closeness that your shared. Let your fond memories carry you through your time of grief
Nice to see you. So sorry for the loss of your dad, Arne. I lost mine on Christmas Eve a few years ago, so it's always a good time to raise a glass. He was 92. Celebrating his life and having fun making the cake for your birthday celebration is a great way to greet us on your return to your podcast. Thanks for sharing it all with us. Happy belated birthday, Arne.
Nothing sweeter than fifteen minutes in an evening spent with Arne and Carlos, except perhaps, a norsk jordbær! That burst of flavor when you pop one in your mouth is never forgotten. Visiting my daughter-in-law's family hytte in the mountains southeast of Trondheim in 2014, she stored the leftover, perfectly ripe strawberries in a metal bowl with a plate on the top. Just a few hours later, she grabbed the bowl to serve the strawberries on our breakfast oatmeal and they had fermented! I too know what you mean about Geiranger fjorden. Some of those big cruise ships just sit in port belching black smoke all day while their passengers are ashore! The smaller Hurtigruten ferries are the best way to travel the coastline. My dad, too, decided it was time as he approached his 92nd birthday. Waited until his only grandson and his wife were able to visit from Norway, and quietly passed a month later. Like your dad, Arne, a great storyteller who lived al long, productive, interesting life. Thank you for sharing your lives and adventures with knitters around the world.
So difficult to lose a parent but glad you were able to spend some time together. Thanks for this catch up and baking episode. Between the rolling out of bed, getting yolk in the whites, Freda and Arne licking the bowl, and some of the English subtitles confused by the accents e.g. “sit in it for a bit” , this video brought some much needed laughter! Thank you🥰
Yeah!! 👏👏👏 Catching up on old RUclips content from the two of you has been my go to when I just need to shut everything else out and relax this past year and a half... Thank you for being there! So happy to see you'll be coming back live.
My condolences to you on your bereavement. I would love to hear more about Arne’s father, it sounds like he was a right character. It’s lovely that you were able to be with him as he crossed from this life. He will live on in your hearts, your memories and your knitting archive xx
Happy birthday Arne and I'm drooling over the cake yummy yummy!! Like you I have a sweet tooth😍 so sorry to hear about your Dad but so glad you has time to spend with him and I'll think of him with his horses in heaven ,heaven's gained another angel😇🐎🎂💞 xxx
Happy Birthday Arne! Your cake looks delicious. How lucky you are to have Carlos make you a cake. Arne, I am so sorry that your father passed, but it sounds like he had a long and wonderful life. From the stories you have shared with us, you had a lovely childhood and a close knit family. You both look great and well rested. I’m glad you had a nice summer, but even happier that you are back. You were missed!
So glad that you were able to spend time with Arne's Dad before his passing. That is so special. Here is a tip for your cake. On one of you thrift store tours, look for a cake plate which is flat. Unlike a large plate or platter the is curved. Then your meringue would not be sitting on the rim of the plate which will encourage the meringue to break or collapse. Glad you are back.
I was going to make the same suggestion about using a flat plate before decorating the top. Another tip could be to make a “nest” shape with a slight hollow in the centre before baking. However, with this type of cake, it all tastes great in the end, and I love it when you get chewy bits in the middle. Well done Carlos and belated happy birthday to Arne.
Thank you for taking us with you up your Himalaya. What a beautiful view! Happy birthday Carlos and congratulations on becoming a Norwegian citizen. My son was born 51 years ago on August 27th. I live in south central Washington state where we had very high temperatures this summer - the highest was 115 degrees. Now we have forest fires about 30 miles to the west. It is causing very smokey skies. We’re looking forward to winter.
I don’t think I’ve had a really good belly laugh (complete with a few tears) since you went on holiday. Thank you, thank you, thank you for coming back to us and filling us in on all that’s occurred over the summer so far! Happiest of birthdays, Arne! 👏🎂👏🎉❤️😘 Carlos, I am so happy to hear you are doing so well after your long-term COVID! Keep up the good work and your therapy! 👏👏🏔👏👏❤️😘
Can you imagine how much your podcasts mean to me!!! Sorry for your loss. A beautiful age, good that you could say goodbye. Thanks to the both of you for your beautiful, cozy videos that brighten up everything after a very busy week.
Welcome back, guys! I have missed you two and can't wait for the surprise in September. Carlos had his hands full making a cake with Arne at his side hahaha! I laughed out loud so many times! I always feel like I'm visiting with friends when I watch your episodes - weird, but very true. Enjoy the rest of August and take care :))
Belated birthday wishes to you Arne and condolences to you about the passing of your father❤️ It is good to see you both again your videos are always a pleasure🥰
COVID has made so many changes in our world, thank you for bringing some joy to those of us that enjoy sharing time with you. You are both wonderful people.
Queridos! So glad you are enjoying a productive and beautiful summer. Condolences on the passing of your father, Arne. My father too died of old age, and there is a saying, "The death of an old man is not a tragedy." It may sound cruel to some, but we know that it is not. A good life lived! Blessings to all! Good health to both of you. Big love from Chicago!
YEAH! So glad you both are back. This was a wonderful way to start the new season of Sit and Knit for a Bit..... Love the birthday cake. I think if you used a plate with no sides, or a flat tray, the meringue would sit flat on the bottom and would not collapse in the middle. Happy belated birthday,. Arne.
How lovely to have you both back. I only have time for 20 mins watching now but I will be back. Use the egg yolks to make passion fruit or lemon curd and drizzle some over the pavlova with the cream and fruit um yum, yum 😋. I'm looking forward to hearing about your father Arne, whenever you feel up to it. Such an interesting generation born long before consumer culture became a thing, so much to learn from them.
Sorry about your loss. Happy Birthday Arne. Love your gentle nature gentlemen. I've been doing a lot of knitting. Selbu Mittens and sweaters for grandkids. ❤️
My condolences! My Dad was able to stay home to the last (his wishes), so we had good conversations about his life and experience, some secrets which just made me wonder how blessed he was to reach 94.
Oh my goodness, I have missed you two! Arne: “I’m done talking now” and “the crumb just fell off the cake’. Lol. Wishing you both the very best kind of adventures moving forward (only the best kind). Thank you for sharing a belated birthday party with us, Carlos. Happy Birthday, Arne!
Really glad you both are back. So sorry for yr loss. Prayers for you both and family. Even if you don't knit, I knit while listening to you guys. Thank you!
You both are a delight. And I salute your country and it’s citizens for beating back this awful virus. I am in America and you know what nonsense is going on here.
Happy Belated Birthday, Arne! Sorry to hear about your Dad. It sounds like he had a rich and full life. So happy to have you both back. See you on Sunday! Annx
Part 2 Carlos all that climbing is great for your health. You both look great. The cake is very nice. Arne you look great for your age. I've been 29 for many many years. All the Best to you both Ont. Can.
Belated Happy Birthday greetings, Arne! When I reached the age of 29 my brother gave me the (so far) only useful advice he's ever offered: stay that age forever! My sympathies for your loss, Arne. I know you will treasure the many happy memories you must have.
Happy Belated Birthday Arne, sorry to hear about your Dad. My Dad just passed away a month ago at 100 and 8 months. It is sad no matter how wonderful and long their lives were. Would love to hear more about him one day.
Happy Belated Birthday to Arne! I enjoy baking and this was great fun to see how you did the cake. I'm with Arne, never can have too much sugar! My Mom used to make Angel Food cake and it took 12 egg whites. She had to beat them adding the sugar just a bit at a time. When we were young she would say "if you need something tell me now, cause once I start the mixer I can't stop or my egg whites won't come out right." She would make custard with the yolks. Sometimes slicing the angel food into layers and adding custard and strawberries to each layer and then drizzling the top of the cake with chocolate. So glad you two are back, you were greatly missed!!! You guys are the best, you keep me company in my craft room. And you keep me laughing!! Thank you for your hard work making the videos.
Oh my....big-big condolences to you Arne!! However long and great a life has been it is always so so hard to lose a parent, for us left behind. Always and forever missing my mom and dad forever.
So happy the gents are back! So much birthday love and some wistfulness over Arne's father, but then a lot of fun and humor, as usual. You should have let Helmer and Freja lick the yolks--they would probably love them!
6 eggs, white, 1cup of sugar ( 250milliters), Raspberry vinegar-2tinyspoons, in the bowl 20 minutes-then in the oven for 1 1/2 hour and its ok- stays in oven Lowers temp low temp- now make a cake-top, with 2cups of cream , little bit of vanilla, little bit sugar with cream-on 2minutes with the bowl Stir the cream 2 cups of sugar and then cut up the berries- raspberries, strawberries, blue berries ln and put on top of cream FunFunFun just watching you two!🥰Happy Birthday late but good! Happy Arne and ANormal person, Carlos who made this PAVLOVA- wonderful listening to you love men! Hallelujah!
So sorry for the loss of your father Arne sending love and respect love your station just found you CARLOS glad your liver is back to normal love from the uk 🇬🇧 🌹
Happy belated birthday Arne! I don't think I've ever seen Arne be so mischievous as he was in this episode. Carlos, you did such a lovely job with the cake, it looked delicious. Nothing beats a good 15 minute cake. Arne, I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your father, please accept my deepest sympathies. I am so looking forward to new episodes of Sit and Knit for a bit. Thank you for sharing your time with us, gentlemen!
Missed you both. So good to see you again. Arne so very sorry to hear about your dad. I know your lovely memories will help you get through. Hope you share about him one day.
Hi guys! So glad to have you back again! Arne, so sorry for the loss of your Dad. Looking forward to hearing stories about him in future episodes. So... What to make with all those egg yolks??? Homemade ICE CREAM! Soooo delicious! Thanks for all the giggles! XOX
oh I loved watching you both again. So sorry for the loss of Arnes father, it must have been a difficult time. And happy belated Birthday to Arne - happy 29th Birthay ;-) - may you will have lots of them again. Carlos Cake looks so delicious - I am hungry now. I am looking forward to your sunday videos. I will pick up my WIPs again and and work on them while listening to you
Welcome back! Sorry for your loss, Arne! Good you could be with your father! ❤️ 🙏. Really appreciate the cake! By the way, in the USA Imperial measurement system, 1 cup is equal to 8 ounces (0.236 liter). Any cup which could contain 8 ounces could be used. Delicious looking cake! Thank you, Carlos! Happy Birthday, Arne. 👍
Hello to you both. This is Victoria in Kansas City, USA. I was so saddened to hear of Arne's father's passing. Please accept our most sincere condolences. You were so kind to console me after my own father died of covid in Feb. I wouldn't expect you to remember, you read so many comments, but it meant the world to me. I continue to look forward to every one of your broadcasts. Love survives all. Please find comfort in that.
Thank you for another totally enjoyable podcast. My condolences on the passing of Arne's father. I'm looking forward to hearing more about his interesting life. Watching the construction of The Cake was wonderful. I'm a sugar-lover myself, and it was nice to see Arne enjoying all the various things he can use to transport sugar into his mouth. My favorite thing to make with egg yolks is a lovely pastry cream, or a custard sauce.
I am so sorry to hear the loss of Arne’s father. It’s so difficult losing a parent no matter their age. I look forward to hearing about your father in the future when it’s easier to talk about his life. 💕 💕
Chefs do not make mistakes.
They make new creations.

I knew I missed you two, but I didn’t know how much until we started baking a cake together and and laughed❤️❤️❤️
You could make lemon curd, Hollandaise sauce or egg custard tarts.
Mmm lemon curd on the pavlova….
Sorry about your loss Arne. Glad to have you back. Great cake Carlos. Thanks so much
it is so great to giggle along with you two. So grateful for you both and your shows.
The most delicious beautiful merengue birthday cake. It is so good to watch the two of you, again, making me laugh. ❤️

My mouth is still watering after watching you eat your delicious cake. Lovely to have you back mid-week, and you both look incredibly healthy!
Thank you Sue!

And happy belated Birthday to Arne - happy 29th Birthay ;-) - may you will have lots of them again.
Carlos Cake looks so delicious - I am hungry now.
I am looking forward to your sunday videos. I will pick up my WIPs again and and work on them while listening to you
You should have some cake Sonja!
Arne is so cute about his birthday cake. 🥰 “A piece fell off the cake”. 😂🤣😂
Happy Birthday Arne…..🎉🎂😀
I am so sorry to hear the loss of Arne’s father. It’s so difficult losing a parent no matter their age. I look forward to hearing about your father in the future when it’s easier to talk about his life. 💕 💕
