Great video. Very informative. One thing I hate about Samsung phone's is there apps along with Google are way to similar. Sometimes I bounce back and forth between both to see which I like better. Only started using Google messages because Samsung's for some reason prevented incoming messages from certain contacts. To me Samsung and Google should just combine all there similar apps.
I prefer Google Wallet but like the swipe up feature for Samsung Wallet. You cant switch this out unfortunately. Im old school, i like to see it on my phone when completing a transaction. Google on the other hand automatically does the transaction with the display off. Im sure it works great but always felt uneasy just blindly using the feature.

I have used both and just wished there was p2p integration like apple pay instead of having to use a separate app. I wish this would be brought back inside of android messages. I don't know why google removed this feature

Samsung Pay uses MST on older devices. You don't need to use NFC and you can use it where they tell you 'we don't have tape just like this week at the Home Depot. The lady didn't understand what happened when it worked.

      - At the vendor level, the credit card determines whether they accept it or not.
      - At the bank level it can make a difference as they are the ones authorizing its use. Colombia does not support Samsung Wallet either, but that is what I use there because the banks in the US that back the credit cards do. Some time back they didn't support Apple Pay, but people with iPhones and Apple Pay didn't have any issues.
      - You have nothing to lose by trying because even if your country in theory does not, the credit card companies make most of the rules. If you are talking about one of the main cards such as Visa or MasterCard, I'd want to prove they do not take Samsung Wallet.
      - Samsung Wallet is definitely more secure than Google Wallet any way you look at it. Check out the methods and protocols each use. Now add to that that Samsung phones also utilize Knox. Google Wallet needs to accommodate a large variety of devices and has to secure the app and ecosystem. Samsung does not. This enables Samsung to do things that are unsafe for the others. From a security perspective, Samsung is Apple's only competitor and by themselves sell more phones along than Apple.
      - If there are incompatibilities, I would GUESS it would be more with proprietary cards at the domestic level, and maybe even at the individual level. When a country supports something, it might be because it is mandated as the minimum by the regulating authority. However, that doesn't necessarily mean they cannot go beyond that. Samsung sells more phones than Apple.
      - I see advantages to both. Google Wallet is likely to be secure enough. It's also a pain in the neck to log in every time you want to use your app.

I just got back from Colombia. They don't support it either and I used it everywhere because what matters between you and the vendor if the credit card is accepted, E.G. Visa, MasterCard, etc. The Samsung Pay has to work with the bank that backs the card, and in the U.S. at least, it is every major bank. It works with Bank of America for MasterCard and USAA for Visa etc. The advantage of an in-country credit/debit card is ATMs. However, if you want to get the official exchange rate, you might want one from your own country.

Samsung is available on any Android phone that has been rooted and has a special ROM installed.
The ROM from XDA developers does work perfectly as I tested on my Oppo Find X5.
But it played havoc with the selfie camera on my phone.
So I re-installed the factory ROM.

Does google wallet allow use on places where tap isn't available? I found that Samsung mimics a swipe and can be used on "dumb" registers where you swipe the card.

I primarily used Samsung Pay for literally years but upon getting a new CC tried Google Wallet and it was literally embarrassing. At stores where Samsung pay has always worked fine first or second attempt. Google wallet took literally 10 attempts!!. Back to Samsung Pay for me!

Iam from India so we have an advantage because we have unified payment interface so we just scan any payment qr code more in india we have payment qr code in every store from big shopping malls to street foods shop ,but UPI payment system has transaction limit varies upon to who for a merchant it 2 lakhs ( approximately 2500 us dollar) for p 2 p transaction upto 1200 usd (1 lakhs) but for medical purposes limit is 6200 dollars (inr 5 lakhs rupee ) . It also varies bank to bank. I always use samsung wallet Unified payment interface which a government owned services that links all bank account, it was first exclusive to india ,but now 10 to 15 country is linked with Unified payment interface.

In the UK, Samsung Pay works anywhere you can use a contactless card, which is to say everywhere. Same goes for paying with the Galaxy Watch.
I'm keen to try Google Pay and see if i can still pay with the watch too, as im kind of thinking "what if Samsung Pay goes the way of the Measages app" 😅

    • @Complex_Mud

Bro any update on if you can use the watch to pay with Google wallet? Am using a Samsung phone but got Google wallet, am thinking of getting a watch as well so just wanted to ask

    • @nmeister67
      @nmeister67 6 дней назад

@Complex_Mud Yep, I did test fully moving over to Google Wallet and technically it worked fine on both phone and watch, with a few caveats.
Have to admit, after a few weeks, I went back to Samsung Pay. One niggle was the long press on the watch back button is hard coaded to Samsung Pay. Not the end of the world, as you can program a hold or double tap of the home button instead.
My main reason for going back was the phone app. Samsung Pay has a nice clear card selection in the middle of the screen, and the request for authentication is very clear, single step, with the card rotating 90° when read to pay.
Google Wallet, on the other hand, has the card selection at the top of the screen (not so easy to reach), and the call for authentication is not clear and needed a tap at the top of the screen, before it would even ask for biometrics.
      Hope that helps 🙂

@Complex_Mud Yep, Google Wallet worked fine on both S24U and GS Watch 4 and 6. Ultimately, after 1-2 weeks, I switched back to using Samsung Pay as I found the UI much slicker than Googles version of the app when making payments.

Very good review. Myself, I have wondered if or when Google Wallet will incorporate Samsung Wallet as they did with Samsung Messages. Truly, it would make more sense having one Wallet for all Android phones. For my use, it does not seem to matter which Wallet I use, they both work. Thank you for sharing this video.
FYI: 2:24 and 4:15 Rather than using the correct word use, using utilize comes across as pompous and self-ingratiating. Utilize has a completely different meaning and usage than use, thus utilize is not a fancy way to say use. Use means to consume from a limited supply or take something to achieve a result. Utilize means to use something beyond its intended purpose. Example, we use a chair to sit upon, we utilize a chair as a step stool. See the difference? Hope this helps you and others as well.
