  • Violence. We don't like to talk about it. Every day that passes it seems like a more urgent theme. I am joined by John Slaughter Esq. and Charles Haywood to discuss the Knightly Orders.
I am joined today by John Slaughter and Charles Haywood to talk about the whole subject of Christians and their relationship to violence. As our world becomes more tumultuous and unstable, it seems like this issue is pressing upon us more and more. Its a complex subject that makes many of us uncomfortable. That is probably a good thing. But we live in a world of sin and evil. Violence is an ever present reality. When Europe was dominated by Christianity, violence did not disappear. Christians found a way, however imperfectly it was instantiated in practice, to think about violence and contain and restrain it within and under their faith. We talk about this and more.
Here is a link to John Slaughter’s very fine article on the subject if you have not already read it: substack.com/@...

We should bring Knightly orders again. Or something equivalent to it.

During the Lebanese Civil War, Catholic and Orthodox Christians formed militias in defense of their communities, and formed alliances with other militias such as Hezbollah against their enemies. This was only 40 to 50 years ago. If there is a likelihood of a similar situation developing in the West, particularly North America, then we should be actively organizing something like this preemptively, and incorporating the warrior ethos of the knightly orders into these organizations in order to elevate them above simply a group of armed men. Perhaps a practical way to do this under the radar is to have veterans in our communities train the young men in basic skills and get them used to operating as a group with team building exercises, much as the Boy Scouts used to do. Getting trained in martial arts is also a practical way to prepare.
