The history of skateboarding is so sacred. Not everyone needs to be a connoisseur of skateboarding history, but everyone needs to know at least the basics. It's like...here we are in 2023 on our skateboards. Maybe you're at a skatepark, a curb, a parking lot, or your drive way. There is an endless amounts of dudes who are responsible for where you are right now; Salba being one of those guys. You need to appreciate and understand why you are on a skateboard today.

I just turned 55 and while I rode some skateboards in the 70's, it wasn't until 1983 that I officially became a skater, so 40 years. That Salba has 50 under his belt is a massive accomplishment and inspiring to us all. Bill Dohr made a huge impression on me as well, keep ripping Salba!

Man this was so damned inspiring. I love his perspective about not really being concerned with learning new tricks as much as just doing tricks you know on new spots. Salba is a true Zen master. I met him at Kona back in 2017. He was one of the most genuine and gracious people I have ever encountered. I am also a proud owner of one of his hand stenciled skateboard decks (which I hang in my recording studio at home). His relentless passion for skateboarding and specifically pool riding is unmatched. So grateful that he still skates and is happy to do interviews like this. Aside from being rad AF, he has an attitude that's good for life. Sound wisdom from Salba always.

I too can not imagine life without hearing the Skrrrrrrtt! beneath my feet. This toy has been and will always be, the absolute best part of my life, until the wheels fall off. I talk to my wife all the time about how I do not understand the world without skateboarding. I am literally scared and do not know how to even fathom life without a skateboard beneath my feet. I started skating in the mid 80's. We didn't have access to TV, videos or magazines etc where I was. A few kids moved to my little town from LA and brought stories. Their parents worked in the Valley, or SBC or whatever and they were the lifeline to the scene. It was like oral history. There were no pools and very few parking lots but we did what we could with what we had. Eventually a couple families built half pipes so we had two places to try transition. I heard about Alva, TH, Natas, Mag from these dudes and just stayed stoked. My first board was a Sims with Kryptonics wheels and gullwing trucks. I skated those trucks for several years, but changed boards a bunch. Today my daily is a Salba Tiger VX. I'm glad I got it when I did. I'm so glad I saw this. So many great memories!

This is so crazy being from upland and seeing salba around at different skateparks but not knowing the history behind where i grew up and him. It is true that street skating changed the game and kinda put this history in the background. It's also crazy, I grew up skating upland skatepark and playing guitar when I was 11-12. The spirit was in the air. Hope to meet this legend again one day.

I'm 46 and re-learning how to skateboard. Can still do some simple stuff, ollie, nollie and some other things, but very inspired to keep going.

Superb film, thank you Santa Cruz.
I haven’t skated in years, kind of think it might really hurt now if I got back on it, still have my boards, used to wear Santa Cruz tees to work in the 80’/90’s might have to buy some more or dig out the old ones as I probably still have them somewhere 😮

89-90 @ the haunted hole in san juan capo, SAlba told me to "loosen them trucks, you want to float around this pool like water". Fun times with Alva, Duncan, White brothers & both Albas at that spot.

Found a pool in 1988, skated it, spray painted my name in it, in 2008 I opened a TWS and found a Salba photo from that pool. It's framed and on the wall at home today
