Thank you so much Bud!! This morning I needed 52 subs to hit 100K!! Thanks to you and the Tool Boys we blew past it like it was standing still, you've gotten Me 260+ and still climbing!! Your lil' channel isn't as lil' as you think!! We owe you big time!!☺
Came over from 805RoadKing''s channel. Enjoyed your Proto hammer update. I too like good old tools. I buy at yard sales, keep some for myself, and sell the overstock at two or three sales a year, for spending money. Currently working on a one owner 64' Honda Trail Cub 55cc, which took me ten years to buy, from a good friend. Thanks ScoutCrafter!
Those detail photos at the end are a nice touch. It allows us to see the item up close - the detail and quality of the restoration. Thanks for the fun. :-)
Nice mosh! Really pleased that I’m not the only one to start to put together a tool box for my grandkids and they all have to be the same colour scheme. I have red, yellow and black sets of boxes and tools and I add to them often. I have now started to restore and colour customise tools for each one which means I can buy 3 of the same tool! Subbed to 805’s channel, I’ll go check it out.
Just found a similar sized ball peen at the Restore the other day in good used condition. My wife thought it was funny how happy it made me. The 3 dollar price tagged helped too. Love your work!
The hammer looks great! The red is an excellent choice of color as it really brings out the finish of the handle and hammer head. Thanks for sharing this.
Subscribed as requested. John your restoration of the hammer is simple but so very, very classy. The mid size ball peins are great to carry in the car tool kit.
Excellent resto on the Proto ballpeen hammer. Just picked one exactly like that one for a couple bucks, looking forward to restoring that one. Have about a dozen I have restored. Thank you.
Well Scoutcrafter you’ve gone and ruined another one. That hammer was perfect the way it was. Rusted, filthy, cracked and dented. Now what have you got? A beautifully restored vintage tool that anyone would be proud to own, use and pass down to a loved one. Way to go! 😂 Man I love PROTO tools and that hammer turned out amazing! Take care 😃👍🏼
I found a ball peen hammer head out in the desert along with a rasp. Both really rusty. Brought them home and cleaned them up. I rehandled the hammer. It was a ferriers kit back in the day. He was probably pretty upset about loosing it I imagine.
EJ sent me over and he was reporting that you had sent him over the top in his last video. We have been following each other for a few years now. I enjoy tool restoration videos. Thanks
Subbed to Roadking! Admittedly I cringed when you cut some of the handle off - its just me. But it was well worth it to make it balanced and the final job is amazing!
I also like the octagon hammer handle. I have one on a claw hammer, and they just feel nice. I haven't been able to successfully make one from scratch, but maybe some day that will happen. It's one of those things that you don't appreciate until you have it in your hand.
I've been subbed to RoadKing for a few years now, John - great to see him go through 100K this week! Looking forward to see what you do with the Alligator adjustable - you could easily make round nuts to secure the screws. Maybe put a couple of flats on the old nuts with the Dremel to aid removal?
The octagonal handle and green paint are transitional traits from the Plomb tool company. Not sure of the date of your hammer but I have Proto and Plomb ball pein's with octagonal handles and the green paint. Another cool trick is to soak the end of the wood handle end with green wicking loctite. It hardens up and makes a permanent solid end. Cheers, Tom
Just subscribed to 805RoadKing. When you mentioned that you needed to take off at least one inch of that hammer's handle, I was thinking it was a good thing that when you left the Marines you went with driving the bus and then working in the shop. Think what would have happened if you had become a barber - "I'll just take off an inch here." LOL
Uncle Sneelock and myself are very familiar with the iconic SC red. No surprises here and Good job, John CS! GBWYou and the weeks zip by like weekends!
Those 2 olde wrenches are unique, once cleaned up ,they need to go on your wall of olde & special tools. Good job on the Ball pein. I will go to 805 road king. Cheers !
Best hammer restoration yet! Making me jealous of your tool set over here! I have a 14 inch version kind of like that Reed, except the jaws are all part of the same forging, and no spring action. It's marked: Erie Tool Works, Erie PA U.S. on one side, and Auto No 14 on the other. Just waiting for me to get around to it. I really like the art deco look they have!
Hi Scout. .....that Proto handle shape is one of my favorites. Just feels so good in the hand (no pun intended ). I would like to know how they make those. Thanks for sharing and have a happy day!
Count my subscription to 805 road king. I subbed him last week after you mentioned him. Can’t wait to follow his channel. Thanks scout for all you do, and for who you are.
The hammer looks great! It's your tool so I think you should make it as you like (most of the time that's what I like too), I think that's what most of us like about you! I was watching Mr Pete's channel, on his visit to the clock tower this weekend, they were talking and showing something they called scraping too, it looked cool, is that something we can do on our tools too?? Thank you so much Scoutcrafter, I'm hoping for a good week for all of us (it's hard not to get down). Over to 805 now, would be cool to get him too 100k today.
Those wrenches are really unique. It's good you dont need to replace the curved jaw on the first wrench. I dont know how you would find a replacement for such a rare wrench. As it is the jaws are in excellent condition. I look forward to you applying your skills to it. Hammer turned out great. The lettering on the handle is still prominent. I thought you might have to deepen them somehow so they wouldn't disappear in the refinishing. Good job . Thanks
Great job on the hammer! I’m looking forward to seeing you do the other two tools you showed earlier. Can’t help with 805, I’ve been sub’d for a while now. Have a great week!
John, Very nice job on the PROTO Ball Peen hammer I know you treasure your work. How well does the SHELLAC hold up to solvents such as Brake Fluid, Naptha, Varsol or Gasoline.
Shellac is a really durable finish but chemical solvents like you mentioned will remove everything and anything. If I had a hammer in that environment I would use linseed oil and just reapply every 6 months! 😃👍
Love the hammer scout anything that has the shape of that handle I can’t get enough of fits the hand so well I do my axe handles like that with the octagon I also have a few old guns with octagon barrels so nice fantastic video god bless take care 👍🇺🇸🇳🇿🪓🛠
John Please be safe. When I see you use fast action, I then play it at .25 - .50 speed to keep you safe. Remember what the bus company said. " Safety first. Right after Profits! "
Nice job on the hammer 🔨. Per your request I went to 805roadking and subscribed. I'm a big fan of your channel and have seen probably all of your videos by now. I'm going to try and get my own channel going as I'm setting up my shop for wheelchair accessible use. I'll let you know when I get it.
Nice job on the hammer. I think I remember my grandfather saying that hammer handles were made too long on purpose, back in his day. Supposedly, it gave the end user the option of making it fit their hands, etc. That is exactly why the handle on yours was goobered up at it's end. It was too long.
Great video as always and subbed to ur friends channel. I had a wonder down the shed today found my set of ball peen hammers and a few other goodies at least I will have some fun over winter cleaning tools up.
I have to admit that I'm one of those people that would say "you should have left it". I enjoy varnished wood much better than painted wood. But it's your hammer, so you can do what you like with it.
Good job on the hammer. Like that handle. I will have to look for one. Sorry not much help on 805Roadking. I have been a sub for awhile. Stay safe and healthy my friend. Thanks
Found me a 24oz one with the original handle. Fixed it up and replaced the handle with a brand new old stock green octagonal handle from eBay. Got Lucky with that
I usually hammer in small slivers of hickory or oak to the gaps in hammer heads. I leave them slightly long and sand them down to match the original wood. Fills up the gap with wood and it matches the handle grain most of the time. I like to keep the original wedges in the the factory handles and just tighten the slop with the hardwood pieces.. That and a heavy dose of Linseed Oil works well.
Every day is like a Saturday...good goal for people even if they are still working...i checked out the motor heads and that was the biggest Briggs I ever saw...stay safe crafterman and you did ruin it...😁
Ya know Scout, i was accused today of having too many hammers on our site! I told em i had exactly what i needed and i knew you would approve. They just dont understand
Excuse me if you already have this video on your channel, but I would love to see a "Draw My Life" from you. I bet it's quite the story! Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much Bud!! This morning I needed 52 subs to hit 100K!! Thanks to you and the Tool Boys we blew past it like it was standing still, you've gotten Me 260+ and still climbing!! Your lil' channel isn't as lil' as you think!! We owe you big time!!☺
This is outstanding!!! You are in the big time now!!! Hopefully we can all meet up again at Jacktown in the Spring! 😃👍
Wada ya say ...enough of this 👍🏻 very much enjoy the both of you’s 😃

Great Mish Mosh Monday! Good job helping 805ROADKING. Very honorable! Nice detail work on the hammer. As usual it came out better than I expected.
Those detail photos at the end are a nice touch. It allows us to see the item up close - the detail and quality of the restoration. Thanks for the fun. :-)
I love your restorations for the work you do and your commentary. I laughed my ass off at, “Aw - ya RUNED IT!” Thanks for sharing your passion.

That’s great! I bet they will love them! 😃👍
It is done. 805roadking is now showing 100k!
How awesome is that! 😃😃
You have this old carpenter fixing his favorite 12 oz hammer ! Nice job!
I do like a 10 and 12oz Hammer! 😃👍
Just found a similar sized ball peen at the Restore the other day in good used condition. My wife thought it was funny how happy it made me. The 3 dollar price tagged helped too. Love your work!

Tony! Yes! Once I realized the situation I had to put it aside and think for a while how I am going to tackle it... =D
The octagonal handle and green paint are transitional traits from the Plomb tool company. Cool wrenches and vary nice job on the hammer.

LOL! I had a barber who only knew one haircut, so no matter what cut you asked for he gave you the “Joe” 😂😂😂👍
Uncle Sneelock and myself are very familiar with the iconic SC red. No surprises here and Good job, John CS! GBWYou and the weeks zip by like weekends!
805 Roadking! Heading there now 👍🏼 Love that Proto Hammer! I have one I use daily in the shop. The red looks great!
Jon- The King has some great content! Thanks! 😃👍
My favorite hammer is a wooden handled claw hammer from sears with an octagonal grip. It feels perfect. Lovely restoration.
Ben- I also have a claw hammer with the Octagon handle and it really is nice! 😃👍
Yes, I have been on the hunt for one of those hammer for a couple years.
We have a 12oz proto ball peen with octagonal handle at work. It's my favorite hammer
Those 2 olde wrenches are unique, once cleaned up ,they need to go on your wall of olde & special tools. Good job on the Ball pein. I will go to 805 road king. Cheers !
Scout ask for a favor, pretty sure that 100k mark will be reached by the end of the day.

John that hammer looks excellent! I doubt that you have ruined it!
God bless you John you make everything look so easy!
The strong New Yorker accent made me laugh.
Love the colour scheme. Looks like a big brother to my entry into your Short Handled Hammer Challenge.
Excellent job. I love being able to see the wood grain under the red. Going to checkout 805 now

Beautiful hammer 👍 Beautiful wrenches 👍👍

Hi Pete! Outstanding! It’s a lot of fun making videos in the shop! 😃👍
Nice job! I subscribed to Road King before I found YOUR channel!

There is nothing so satisfying as a well balanced polished ball peen! Thanks 😃👍
I have to admit that I'm one of those people that would say "you should have left it". I enjoy varnished wood much better than painted wood. But it's your hammer, so you can do what you like with it.
Nice restoration john! After you sanded and polished the head ,what do you put on it to protect it from rust? Goodluck with the tool kit! 🇺🇸 Roger
Roger- The Polish and mother’s carnauba wax! 😃👍
@@ScoutCrafter Thank you!
That is called “indexing” as you know. The “oval octagon” handles are amazing. Especially on axe handles 😊
I never had a octagon Axe! 🤔
That's how I fell in live with my wife...taught her about indexing
You don’t have to make me a tool kit!😬
Yes I’m in the process of official changing my name to scoutcrafter jr.

I would have been one of those YA SHOULDA LEFT IT guys but the red works well.
