My husband told me when he was dating he had a few relationships with single mothers. He always felt like he was having the "dad" role pushed on him. When we met i was a single mom of a 5 year old. He knew this of course but told me he appreciated the fact that he was never asked to act like my sons parent. My son has a dad and a mom. My husband formed a friendship with my son, and when he became his stepdad that relationship slowly evolved into more of a parental role that they worked out together. To many single moms, sadly are looking for a father for their children instead of a partner for themselves.

I raised my STBEX's kids for 10 years. They were 8 and 2 when they came to live with me. For the last 5 out of 6 years, she was unemployed and I worked overtime to make sure we had our kids in a home where they all had their own rooms. As she's leaving me, she refuses to say I did anything for her or her kids.
