    Messmer is Marika's firstborn, brother to Miquella and Melania. Statue behind him in Boss room depicts a woman holding a baby, Messmer wields a swordspear. Nameless King is also a firstborn and wields a swordspear. Like Filianore and Lady Maria, Messmer is protecting a dark secret. A great war took place and Marika took over the old crucible leader depicted in painting stabbing him in the head with a rune provided by the Greater Will. More spaghetti throwing here.

    After having watched the trailer and then watched this video, you connected some dots for me! First was the red flame Messmer uses. If its not some form of destined death, could it be something similar to the red grace calling Tarnished?
    They also mentioned Tarnished forced to fight each other no matter their allegiance. I’m guessing the land of shadows wasn’t the Valhalla many of us were thinking of. Part of me wonders if Messmer has anything to do with that
    The description of the trailer mentioned Miquella waiting at the foot of the “Erdtree” and Marika having already been to the land of shadow. If this is the case I think the first image we got of the dlc was what the area might have looked like way back then?
    There is so much speculation that could be drawn with these few connections. I don’t want to dive too deep when not much has been revealed 😅
    That being said, we do need to hear your theories on the dlc at some point. I can’t wait to hear how this proves that Radagon is an ant 😂

    • @JarHed69
      @JarHed69  7 месяцев назад +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed the ideas in the video! 😊
      Yeah, Mesmmer already looks fascinating! On his red flame, I've not seen many people considering that it could be similar to Mogh's Bloodflame? If so, then Messmer could be calling to the Formless Mother?
      "The mother of truth desires a wound" after all, so she might have "favoured" us after defeating her champion Mogh in the Lands Between? If Messmer serves the same Mother, then the flames he uses might be a more advanced form of Bloodflame!
      That said, he has some very obvious draconic imagery going on, yellow pupils with slits, dragon wings etc.!
      I've seen people comparing the symbol in the centre left of Messmer's Sigil (on the Collector's Edition box art, and on the back of his red cloak) to the Dragon Communion Seal! It's slightly different, but could mean that dragon hearts are the source of his power in some way?
      He also has some Godskin energy going on! 😅😂 So I'll have to do a lot of digging to work out what's what!
      I'm fascinated by Marika having visited the Shadow Lands before, and using the perspective of this video, that could have been when she separated it off by creating her Basin Rune?
      I've not seen the line about Miquella "waiting at the foot of the Erdtree” though, could you share where that was from?
      And to me, as the Shadow Lands look WAY different to the original poster image, I'm not sure what to make of it anymore! Is it just concept art? Is it from a long time ago, before all the kingdoms and castles were built around it?
      Is it from before the ant monarchy was established? 🤣🤣🤣

      @@JarHed69 Ohhh I never thought about the godskins and their connection to the dlc. Seeing the snake/dragon imagery in Messmer (and the blasphemy he radiates) makes me think we might get more insight as to why the nobles have tails and what their goal in the land’s between was?
      Also I misremembered the line about Miquella being at the foot of the Erdtree. It said he was in the Land of Shadows (this is in the description of the bamco’s european trailer but i think its on the site as well) Cheers!

    Saint Trina is Messmers mother... Somehow. He's recognised as "child of Merika" only legally like Godrick who we know is a distant descent.
    Griffith in berserk is bisexual and really wants Guts in some way, he can't accept his own feelings.
    Miqella is a different character but he might harbor the same feeling of wanting to be a bottom. And same as his mother he can be opposite gender at will.
    I also don't believe land of shadow is in different world, no dream area, evergaol, ordina or any other realm is not different world but different layer of the main world, trapped between life and death, concourses and sleep or whatever, that's why i believe that when we touch hand of miqella we don't get moved to other world buy secret new part of existing world is unveiled, like cutscene after radahn fight.

    Anyone who doesn't subscribe after that opening is truly maidenless.
    But on a more serious note, there are lots of great ideas to chew over here! The notion that spirits ascend upward definitely makes a lot of sense (and I really like the practicality angle for explaining why there are so many spirits in the Mountaintops of the Giants). Although Miyazaki has now said that the expansion will take place in a land that's been physically separated from the Lands Between, I do wonder if the Land of Shadow is going to be closer to the spirit world or still have some way to access it. It would be such a major lost opportunity if that doesn't happen!
    I completely forget that's how Gurranq's quest ends! Just as fascinating, if you defeat Gurranq at the Bestial Sanctuary, he disappears into a shadowy black mist, which makes me wonder/dread/cower before the Black Blade if we're going to encounter him in the expansion. Everyone's joking we're going to fight a Godskin Trio in SOTE, but what if it's a Beast Clergymen Duo? 😅

      @@JarHed69 i lost nothing watching the trailer first. I love Tarnished Archeologist and yours frameworks of interpreting the game, and this video is exactly that -- uncovering the language of symbols of the game.
      As of the trailer -- it's mostly focused on showing for 3 minutes straight "we've got more ER content!".
      There are some lore gleams: the use of late Roman empire style + this fancy spiral columns from Vatican (as you can see i'm not proficient in architecture history xd) to indicate that there are new possible kingdoms/dynasties.

  • @steamedhamlet

    Miquella being moved by Mohg while in the spirit realm and not being able to find his way back reminds me of the time Zuko took Aang's body when he was in the spirit world in the North Pole.
    Also I think both Maleniq AND Miquella are avatars (wink) for the god of Rot. The Order of Rot as Gowry mentions is that of death and rebirth and we see this in the swamp of Aeonia with cleanrot knights being reborn out of the swamp and of course Millicent and her sisters and the pests which seem to be an amalgamation of other bodies with their many hands. As twins they form the two spirals of a double helix: death (Malenia) and rebirth (Miquella).

    • @JarHed69
      @JarHed69  7 месяцев назад +3

      I totally forgot about that Avatar episode, I should have used the phrase Astral Projection in the video! It would have made that point way clearer... 😅
      And that's a really interesting point about Gowry's dialogue! I've been fascinated with how Milicent and her sisters seem to be clones/daughters of Malenia's, some sort of life born from the Rot... it seems out of place, and there's still so many questions about it. So yeah, maybe the twins do represent each side of the helix!
      If life is being born from Malenia's (death) side though, do you think there's some sort of death thing going on with Miquella (life)?
      Like, maybe he's youthful because he accidently steals life way from those around him? That might explain all the cocoons in the Haligtree!
      Bit of a wild idea 😂 but I've never thought of it like that before. What could the death aspect of Miquella's half be?

    • @steamedhamlet
      @steamedhamlet 7 месяцев назад +5

      @JaRhEd69 Hmmmm! Hmmm...! If I had to guess I'd say that his death aspect is his association with sleep. In ancient teachings sleep and death are very closely intertwined. Even in more modern mythology this holds true like in Greek myth where Hypnos the god of sleep is the twin half brother of Thanatos (god of death) and son of goddess of night Nyx (Nox? Marika is closely associated with the Nox people too.) There's not enoigh studies in to dreams and sleep in our world imo...
      We've seen Malenia steal HP but I haven't figured out what that's about yet! Always felt the cocoon was more of a transformation thing. There are so many moth and butterfly motifs with Malenia and Miquella. Perhaps Miquella sought to cure his youth curse via this transformation...
      Your insight has given me lots to think about. I hope you keep producing this amazing work, even streams where we can just speculate and exchange ideas!

    • @JarHed69
      @JarHed69  7 месяцев назад +2

      @@steamedhamlet I'd love to try a few streams! My set-up my be a little dated to handle it though 😅
      And I've honestly forgotten about Nalenia's lifeseal, which might very indicating something about her lore!
      As for Miquella's cocoon, I tried to show it in the footage, but it's actually in the base of the Haligtree’s withered half, and it seems to have been also stunted above where his wooden visage has grown! It's almost as though Miquella intended for the growth around his cocoon to continue upwards and complete the second half of the Haligtree!
      So, of he's really gone to the Spirit (Shadow) World, maybe he was drawing power from there, collecting the missing essence needed, and flowing it back into the Lands Between through his body?
      This obviously would have been halted when Mogh kidnapped him, but yeah, does that make sense?

  • @matthewpattan2480

    ECLIPSE!!! Your upside-down Elden Ring made so much sense to me. If you brought the two Elden Rings together it would be more of a mandala pattern. Also, it would encase the whole symbol in a circle which resembles the ECLIPSE! Miquella might be plotting to merge the worlds of life and death to restore Godwyn.

    • @JarHed69
      @JarHed69  7 месяцев назад +1

      Absolutely! Some way of reintegrating life and death might solve both halves of Godwyn being separated between the two worlds, and maybe even stop things stagnating in his Haligtree, or even the whole of the Lands Between!

    Great stuff. One thing I want to suggest because I'm not sure you did, is that spirit and souls are not the same thing. You kept saying the 'spirit world' like it's the only place for the DLC. Souls are traditionally tied to earth and separate from the body only at death. It makes sense souls travel down after death. Spirit is the animating force that gives bodies movement, called the breath of god. It makes sense this spirit travels up after death. My point is I don't think we can say it's one or the other, both can be true.

    Sleep and death have been closely intertwined with each other in old mystery school teachings and in alchemy.
    From Bloodborne:
    Great volumes of water serve as a bullwark guarding sleep
    Loooooved this entry in your content. I wonder what you make of Miquella's character. Some item descriptions like for the bewitching branch depict a bit of a manipulative entity. We know the nox use them to make the ants servile to them. And devotees of Miquella are ready to sacrifice themselves to be his guiding light back to the physical realm (the exploding soldiers). I'm not saying characters in the Lands Between have to be ALL good or ALL bad, but is he as benevolent as it appears on the surface? Is he going rogue or merely following his own dark empyrean path?

      And well, like most people I think, Miquella always seemed pretty perfect to me - wise, kind, and talented!
      But as you say, once people brought up the hints towards him being more manipulative/controlling, I've been looking at him WAY differently!
      The content around Miquella being based on Griffith might have been influencing me as well through! I've only just started reading Berserk, but as Griffith is perfect and inspires devotion, yet seems willing to sacrifice anything for his dream, Miquella now also seems a bit suspect to me too 😅

    The story of Elden Ring is woven so intricately detailed and hidden, it is difficult to follow at times and forces you to read everything from the tablets, item and weapon descriptions to the dialogue of the NPCs to form the complete story, it's no wonder why so many people are interested in this epic tale being told. I believe there will be some kind of extended story related cutscene involving the parting of water (sea to the south) to reveal the "Shadow" realm location. If you notice the first scene where the tarnished first enter area on top of Torrent, you notice wet ground that Torrent runs on. Also, many camera angles appear to give the feeling of looking "upwards" at Erdtree. The many island type land structures also appear to be shaped as if underwater previous and surroundings seem like lands are just in a bowl type area.

    • @JarHed69
      @JarHed69  7 месяцев назад +1

      I never thought of it like that!
      From the establishing shot in the trailer, when Torrent halts just before the cliff, there definitely seems to be a depression in the centre of the Shadow Lands, with rising Plateau's towards its edges!
      I'm not saying the whole area will "rise" out of the central creator within the Lands Between, but the bowl-like-shape of the map, as you say, really could be showing us were in this area!
      I am puzzled by the shot with the Draconic Bear Roar, as it shows a clear view over an unobstructed ocean... so where would this fit do you think?
      And would you say the Shadow Erdtree in the trailer is occupying almost the same space as the Erdtree in the Lands Between?

      Well, Rogier does say, "Fascinating, isn't it? That the Golden Order was pliable enough to absorb practices that contradicted itself in the past."
      Here he's referencing how the Carian's and the Academy were brought into the Golden Order’s fold through the marriage of Rennala and Radagon, and they also adopted Dragon Worship too. So, I think it's these other cultures that the Golden Order became "alloyed" with.
      Using this train of thought, if the Golden Order was more "pure" when it first began, maybe Miquella wanted his Order to return to this "pure" form.
      AND, as I've suggested in the video, the beginning of the Golden Order was BEFORE Destined Death was removed, so maybe Miquella's Unalloyed Gold would have aimed to return to life before rebirth through the Erdtree?

    Great video, I disagree slightly that the Elden ring has a duplicate below where the rune arc currently sits. I think the rune arc now sits in place of the rune of death, in fact if you look at the ancient Elden Ring in Farum Azula, you can see that the rune of death features at the very bottom, right where you'd expect it, pointing down below all the other roots into the spirit world.
    The Helphen Steeple is a representation of the rune of death. Its design matches almost perfectly bar a few differences that I also have some idea of explaining if you're interested.
    The Shadow Tree (which I believe to be the Black Steeple of Helphen and the tap root of the great tree/Erdtree/Crucible) therefore is a manifestation of death, in the same way that the Erdtree is a manifestation of life.
    When Marika removed the rune of death, she physically disconnected the Shadow Lands, preventing destined death and thus the blessings of the Elden Ring (life) remained pooled within the rune arc instead, allowing for immortality/rebirth without transcending the spirit world.
    Deathroot now physically reaches down into the shadow lands underneath the lands between, partially reconnecting the spirit world. This is likely what we see strangling the Shadow tree in the DLC. But with the Elden ring shattered and perhaps importantly the rune of the Unborn being removed, souls traversing these roots cannot be birthed anew and are instead brought into the empty vessels of buried corpses across the lands between.

    I wonder if when only the soul dies or the soul leaves the body whether another entity can take over the body. Considering the new trailer - that Messmer the impaler guy, the tall lanky guy with the red snake, kind of looks like the corpse in the cocoon that Mohg lies with. I wonder if that Messmer fella is trying to over take Miquella's corpse since an empyrean body would be quite the prize and a nice way to return to the world of the living after perhaps losing your own body

      Holy hell, this hits hard!! And Jesus, it would fit so well!!
      I'm gonna be thinking of this going forward!!!
      On Messmer, I've seen people speculating about his bright red flames, and I've not seen anyone propose that it's the same Bloodflame used by Mogh?
      The Mother he calls to, could that not be the formless mother? And he questions why we were "lordship sanctioned" by her, which could have been due to her champion defeating Mogh?

    • @TheScrootch
      @TheScrootch 7 месяцев назад

      @@JarHed69 Interesting point indeed! His flames do resemble the bloodflame, perhaps Mohg is being tricked without knowing that he's being tricked. Messmer also has a lot of sin iconography, the discolored draconic eye, the snakes and of course his fire. I mentioned on another video that I think Messmer may have burnt the Erdtree the first time, before us. That'd explain all the ash in Leyndell and him maybe being banished from the lands between.
      Someone else on another video also pointed out the impaled giant corpses in the mountaintops... Messmer the IMPALER...
      Perhaps Messmer has some close connection to the formless mother, and maybe even the bloodstar due to his connections to sin.

    Now that everyone is freaking out over the trailer (absolutely mindblowing btw) I just wanna let out a thought that it is still possible we enter the DLC from different places and not just Moghs arena. They can be splitting up the DLC in interloping sections if they want to spread it out more and giving us multiple entry points. After waching this vid I definitely would want to play with all of those entry point theories if I were a From developer ;)
    Super nice vid man! You did it again 😍I love your theories and how you're able to comprehend all of that, and on top of that make sense of it ;) Can't wait to see how much will be featured in the DLC but at least the wait is over soon!
    Regarding your format, I personally love your longer videos as long as they're not too all over the place (which I think you balance extremely well so far!) - a few chapter markers in the video might help those that seek specific information might help, but I happily watch them in one go, and then on repeat a few times as well haha

    • @JarHed69
      @JarHed69  7 месяцев назад

      I had hoped the trailer would show us a lot of new stuff, and they went absolutly mad with it! It was nutty!
      And I agree! I've been reading the interview Miyazaki did about the DLC, as well as the promotion on their website - and they say that "Players can seamlessly travel back and forth between its vast maps..." So yeah, while this might be referring to traveling between the Shadow Lands and the Lands Between, there's a chance the DLC will be several separated zones? If so, there might be separate entrances for each of them?
      Or, even if the Shadow Lands are one BIG map, there still could be ways we'd need to access other parts of it through different portals in the overworld? I think this would be REALLY cool, especially if they each connect to a different storyline in the base game!
      And thank you, I'm really glad you've enjoyed this one! I immediately added chapters to the video after I read this, which I completely overlooked 😅 Thanks for the feedback! It's had balancing life with making the longer videos, which is why they take so long 😖 But I'll keep plugging away at making more, especially if my Radagon script will still be viable if there's no new information about him in the DLC 😂
      Anre there any other ideas, or areas of the lore, that you think I should consider making a video about? Most areas are well documented by other content creators, and I'm not sure it would be interesting for me to just rehash the same information?

      @@JarHed69 The topics that interest me the most after these years of waiting are mostly related to the origin/identity of the Gloam Eyed Queen and the connection between Miquella and St.Trina. I think most other topics and theories are pretty well-founded but I still haven't gotten my own theory about those. Most of all I believe the Gloam Eyed Queen to be pivotal to the story as a form of alter ego to Marika, created to oppose the Golden Order before she might have been take hostage by Radagon.
      But I don't have other clear evidence or reasons to believe that besides a hunch, the duality between them, and a slight tweak to the timeline from one of your videos that may explain her disappearance after conflict with Maliketh - but that tweak screws up a lot of other stuff, so I'm not sure at all about anything really haha xD
      Let's wait till after the DLC to see if that merits anything - but I can't wait to see how the Imposter theory holds up - it's still my favorite explanation

    Lol I don't know why but I always feel compelled to correct this mistake that EVERYONE makes. Gwyn was not "desperate to maintain his age of fire". The first age of fire ended and an age of dark began, then, after seeing what the age of dark was (I believe it was awful because of the furtive pygmy not shouldering the burden of Lordship), he sacrificed his own life to restore the First Flame. And let's not forget that Izalith had a similar reaction.

      @JarHed69  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah you're right,Gwyn and Marika's stories are very different 😅
      I mean, even though his world does stagnate, if Gwyn didn't keep the Fire going... the entire world would go into darkness, which would be a rough time!
      I guess I was more commentating on the futility/self fulfilling prophecy aspect of it - holding on too tightly, ultimately, won't work. Does that make sense?

      @@JarHed69 Absolutely. And I loved the video. I see a definite resemblance to the old gods of Lordran in the demi gods of the Lands Between, but I think Miyazaki pictured the Lords as more altruistic, except for maybe the Furtive Pygmy (maybe), where in Elden Ring the deities are more confused and wayward.

    You know, i have always wondered due to the past god of rot being a thing and the crucible root imagery, are we perhaps looking at mycelial threads? we know the mushroom lords where around in the primevil time of Elden ring and that roots and mycelium are deeply connected in the real world by symbiotic growth relations.

      the roots/crucible kind of reminds me of the aeonia pattern the petals flowing outwards like a lotus, if i recall lotus flowers eat decay and stagnation in Eastern philosophy and grow in muddy water in the real world. The goddess of rot we fight in the game also has flowers and rot as her motif.

      @@JarHed69 miyazaki stated in an interview that the shadow lands isn’t in an alternate place or time but is “hidden” from the outside world (that’s what the cloth veils around the tree in the trailer represent) so I’m just taking an educated guess and the big crater in the middle of the map seems to be the best spot for a “hidden” land. Biggest thing that makes me believe the dlc will take place in the maps centre is because of you go to either farum azule or malenias tower you can see a cliff where the crater starts, almost like something was mean to be there but was removed or hidden.
