- This is my video of the LCS1 USS Freedom launching. As you can see, I was standing on the shipyard side. I managed to get the voice and the christening itself. Really proud of this.
EDIT: www.ussfreedom.org
The comissioning ceremony for the Freedom is slated for November 8th at 10 AM at Veterans Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Наука
I am proud to have been able to be there. I am proud to bear witness to the next generation of US Naval vessels first hitting the water. I am proud to be able to help train the next generation of US sailors, marines, airmen, and soldiers.
My pride does not stand with simply being able to show the launching of a beautiful ship. My pride stands with knowing the story behind her, knowing those who built her, and knowing those who sail upon her.
That is why I am proud.
LCS is for Littoral Combat Ship. She's designed for patroling the shallow waters around reefs, coastlines, and river basins where most naval surface ships can't access.
OH yeah, that's right, he wanted to go to the CG. He went to Seabee training in MN this year. I drove up there with him, another cadet, and the CO of the training LCDR VanDerHulst. He was a great Chief.
Marinette Marine won the contract for building her. Both Marinette and Manitowoc also built subs during WWII and used the side-launch method since they had very shallow drafts. Marinette doesn't have a place to use the standard launching method, so the side-launch was utilized. Also, I'm pretty sure everything in the compartments was what was bolted down. Loading the other material/moduals would come later.
im glad they said they were standing on the shipyard side, i would have thought they were standing in the middle of the water on the other side.
No. The ship built from the rubble is LPD-21 USS New York. She was christened 01 MAR 08, and will be commissioned 07 NOV 09.
An 'LPD' is a 'Landing ship transPort, Dock', an amphibious, assault ship used for landing troops, equipment, and supplies directly to a beachhead.
In case you haven't heard, Marinette Marine got the contract to build a second ship like this one, USS Fort Worth (LCS-3). It should be the same, save for a few minor internal changes.
i love how the crowd gets all exited when it starts moving then it gets to the point where it looks like its guna tip and they go quiet and then realise its ok .
WOOOOOOOohhhhhshiiii..yeahhhHHHH!!
On Nov 8, my Sea Cadet unit is going to the commissioning as guests in uniform. Its gonna be real cool :)
Yeah he was. We've all got full support for him and know he's going to get through.
And VanDerHulst is probably the most bad-ass COTC ever.
No, unfortunately I missed that little announcement. Thank you for the notification.
Yeah, we did. Last Sunday was his last day before going to USCG basic along with one other cadet.
The reason why some ships have a bulbous keel (or bulbous bow, as it's normally called) is improve the water flow around the hull. Specifically, it pushes water better then a straight bow like on the freedom. I Can get better info (more technical) if you want.
Sweet! Ill see you there!
Sorry, I accidentally deleted a comment I meant to answer. The reason the LST doesn't have the bulbous section of the hull is because this ship is specifically designed to travel and work in shallow waters. Her maximum draft if around fifteen feet, which means the hull only descends fifteen feet into the water.
Why some ships have the bulbous keel, I'm not quite sure myself. If someone could explain better, it would be much appreciated.
most of the time it's to house a sonar, but I know in the last Nimitz class carrier they did it to decrease drag.
Thank you very much for clearing that up. If you could send the link to the information via PM, that would be wonderful.
That Was Pretty Cool. Its A Bit Nerv Racking When It Goes In On Such An Angle. But It Is A War Ship. Hope She Never -MUST- Fire Her Guns
Hell yeah! "Daddy Van" is the shit! That guy is amazing! Have you ever heard the story about the duck-billed platypus? Hes got a new story now... about the hyena... lol
Sweet! Hey, you had a chief named Teufel, right?
Glad to see JFK going. You can definitely count Pimiteoui in being there. No way in hell would we miss this ceremony.
@caddy59 haha, my dad is working on that one too, they are supposed to launch it on the 4th, but too bad i wont be there, in the yard of all places, to see it. :/
omg omg omg omg aare they going to use it for an operation soon!
...........slightly disturbing. Curious as to how this story came about, but I'll leave it at that.
Be lookin forward to meetin ya up in Milwaukee. I'll be the only MIDN with my unit.
I've heard the platypus story, but now a hyena? You have my attention.
nice ship..
@tuntitommosille
but it is wonderful to see there is no ww2 anymore.
@dave7200
doesnt count for holland
What is a LCS?
@tuntitommosille
Well, there's no real use for those juggernauts any more. With the advances in aircraft and missile systems, large ship-to-ship engagements have gone to the wayside, just like Napoleonic-style warfare.
isn't this the ship that was built from the world trade center?
NO SE VE EL AGUA.
This lauch was from a shipyard in Wisconsin right?
Yes. Up in Marinette, Wi.
Cool, I got to visit that one and the USS Milwaukee
Untamesoul5555 I live by the shipyard
In a different state
rock the boat :)
Its a long story, hahaha. He talks about how the female hyenas have "pseudo penises". Like I said, long story lol.
I know there are reasons other people in the world dislike Americans; propaganda by their religious/political leaders, the dominating arrogance, ignorance, and stupidity of much of the population, and bad decisions made by our government.
My question to you is what does your comment have to do with this video?
