Los Angeles Taiko Institute (taiko.la) is a dedicated taiko school offering ongoing courses, multi-day intensives, and one-time workshops on a variety of Japanese drum topics. From the dance-like movements of "naname" style (slant-drum) to the fast drumming techniques of the high-pitched tsukeshime-daiko, LATI teaches a wide spectrum of the art of taiko. Incorporating professional, tour-tested repertoire, LATI students learn powerful music from accomplished, enthusiastic artists. LATI is housed at the brand-new Asano Taiko U.S. facility in Torrance CA.

Asano Taiko, located in Matto, Ishikawa Prefecture, is on of the major taiko manufacturers in Japan. Ever since its foundation in 1609, the company has been making a wide range of taiko drums, with all processes from the felling of the trees to the finishing touches done by hand.
This is exactly what I've been looking for! I've recently become very interested in this great art form but wanted to learn more about the patterns and technique, so I can understand better what I'm listening to. Your videos are great. Regards.
I have been playing taiko in a couple of groups in Japan for some years now, and I'll be going to my home country soon where I want to start a taiko group.
So, I've been looking into how to actually teach basics, and these videos are quite good ^_^
(I basically went into one group first, where we did some basic stuff on the first day, and from that point on we just did songs. When I entered another group, they knew I already played taiko in the first group, so we also just went straight into songs. My point is that I never really did any basics, so I have no idea how they are tought :P )
I came looking for Japanese drum patterns because I wrote a song about a friend who's having a hard time away from home, and turns out my melody is おつり😮
Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
