      @@blackwater7183Lol, I was referring to the photo with the generated red circles for reference on the actual head of the young lady, not the drawing.

    The order in which you focused on the features, and saving the eyes to last, is interesting. I almost always go to eyes first and end up with misproportioned heads, especially the forehead. Beautiful example of loomis portraiture. Thank you.

    • @onepencildrawing
      @onepencildrawing  7 месяцев назад +52

      Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you found the order of focusing on the features helpful. It's always interesting to try different approaches and see what works best for you in portrait drawing.

    • @jesustyronechrist2330
      @jesustyronechrist2330 6 месяцев назад +8

      Yeah, I think I actually prefer doing the eyes "last", but rendering them "first".
      By just leaving empty space there removes the intensity of the eyes, that I feel like become too big of distractions otherwise and mess up the other proportions as now you are trying to place the features relative to the eyes rather than relative to everything.

      The way most masters work is they go from the biggest shapes in the drawing to the most miniscule details in that exact order. But then again, they are masters, they can do it in whichever way they want, owing to the thousands of hours they've spent drawing...

    Starting with the eyebrows really helped with placing the nose and then having the nose helped place the mouth. Super smart! I tend to start with the eyes but this makes a whole lot more sense!

  • @captainmidnight3522
    @captainmidnight3522 6 месяцев назад +16

    It is a very nice intermediate level portrait drawing. My only critical comment/recommendation, especially for beginners watching this channel is to spend more time on layout. Spend time blocking out all the major shapes. Don't worry about any detail or skin tones or highlights until you have an accurate representation of all the major shapes and their placement. Don't fall in love with any line or any detail until you have that done.

    • @justtubingby8342
      @justtubingby8342 6 месяцев назад +2

      You're describing a different method of drawing from what he is showing us.

    • @captainmidnight3522
      @captainmidnight3522 6 месяцев назад +2

      @justtubingby8342 I disagree. The artist is using the Loomis method. The very first step was laying out the head shape and determining where the side is. Then establishing where the construction lines should be placed. Next is placing rough shapes for nose, eyes, brow, lips, etc. As I said, beginner artists should refrain from darkening any lines... adding any details at all... until all the major shapes have been blocked out and the composition established along with areas of light and dark(contrast). If you rush ahead to all the "fun" parts, you will not want to erase lines, even if they are wrong. This is where most all common mistakes happen.

      Hey, thanks for the feedback! I'm stoked that you enjoyed the portrait drawing. You've given me a great tip to spend more time on the layout, and I totally get it. Gotta make sure those major shapes are on point before diving into the details!

      Hey there! Thanks a bunch for your comment, it really made my day! Don't let self-doubt hold you back from trying something new like drawing. We all start as beginners and the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the process. Give it a go and see where your creativity takes you!

    That’s pretty good. I have trained my hand over time, to travel with my eyes and as I move my eyes along the subject matter my pencil moves at the same speed and direction. I do stop periodically to make sure I am on my mark but it takes a lot of practice to get this right. Typically profiles are the best for this method but it does work well with any subject. Also if you don’t have an already existing set of drawing talent you might not have much luck, if you don’t have the talent you can’t do anything to force it. But you can at least get better results.
    Great job you definitely have the skills to pay the bills 👍👍
