  • Aglaia is a spectacular 66m sloop-rigged aluminium yacht designed by naval architect Dubois Design. The large sloop rig is all carbon with EC6 rigging and gives a sail area to displacement ratio equivalent to a racing yacht.
    With the motto to develop a 60m+ yacht that sails like a dinghy, the design and build team set specific targets like hoisting the main sail in less than two minutes and tacking the boat within 30 seconds.
    Vitters Shipyard developed an innovative storage system on two drums in the forepeak for the Staysail and Code 1. In addition, Vitters designed a new type of furler for the Staysail to increase safety of the crew by completely avoiding manual handling for large sail hoisting and setting.
    Aglaia started off her second Mediterranean season with a spectacular novelty: she now carries a Code 1 artwork by the Norwegian art designer Magne Furuholmen. This is the worldwide largest artwork on canvas. Though one can hardly call a 3600 sqm painting a detail, this is yet another confirmation of nearly every single detail of this yacht being extraordinary.

    This random video shows up… although it is 10 years old, the SV is still spectacular and looks so modern. Also it’s nice to see the sails unfurl. All the latest videos never show the sails deploying. I wonder why? 🤔 👍

    Love the sail artwork replicated on the crew uniforms, and we hear there's another piece of Magne Furuholmen's inside?! - a great way to tie together the yacht as a single entity. How you can dislike this video, I'll never know!

    100% Spectra or Dyneema. Superlight, water repellent, no stretch & ultra high tensile. That's how the sheets can be so thin. Carbon fiber is used for standing rigging. The boat is built in carbon.

    People who own such a boat do not want you to see their "private parts", aka interior! ;-)

  • @S1ndr3cc
    @S1ndr3cc 11 лет назад

    maybe some parts are carbon, but the hull itself are not carbon fiber, but aluminum. Of course there can be some sort of a comination.

    It may be perverse but I look at the video at 1:07 and think "what is the point of the crew sitting on the rail?" The weight ratio must equate to a dozen ants moving to the beam on a supertanker!

    A view from the UK. Nope, not for me. The reason is that the first thing i look for is a definite distinction between crew space and private space. I do not want the crew piloting the boat behind me when i am enjoying my time in the intimacy of my/the owners area. The Perini Navi have a sun deck with helm station and a pilot house which is what i prefer. I would find it uncomfortable with the crew watching me all the time.

    It seems like the owners of theses types of boats build them just to show everybody they have the money and can make it bigger than you can...it lacks the elegant touch of a J-class or S&S designed boat, it looks cold and dead with no personality other than saying I have the biggest piece of unique art work ...there are worse like Bill Gates new bucket but that is to be expected..this is never going to compete in a race other than Antigua perhaps where they will win the biggest Boat in the Harbor...
