If this only cost $200 million, it's actually pretty cheap considering that super rich people are already getting cars that cost 3-5 million USD each. Compared to a supercar, this is definitely in a class of its own.
Any yacht of that size must have engines and probably bow thrusters. It's necessary for control when approaching marinas and mooring generally. I saw this beautiful ship in Majorca, it was moored for a few days, it was a very cool ship to see in person. I'm pretty sure the sails are completely automated, so technically it could be sailed solo. Amazing really.
It's probably got aft thrusters as well, smaller yachts have them so pretty sure this one does. I'm surprised that this only serves 12 guests. It's a massive yacht
I’m glad sailing has been put back into research. The fuels used in cargo ships emit the most harming exhaust fumes as far as I know. Imagine cargo ships fitted with this sailing technology, it would reduce use of fuels no doubt.
Cargo ships would have to be completely redesigned though. The tilting of the sailboats, known as heeling would be an issue as lots of containers are above deck, tilting would cause containers to go into the ocean, big ships are power stabilized to prevent that
@@Mygg_Jeageryeah I was just wondering about this exact idea, I wonder how it would all go logistically with the large increase in traffic to different ports 🤔 cool to think about though
I think Capt. Jack Sparrow will not be pleased that this 'thing' was named after his true Black Pearl! No resemblance at all but for the name. At least Jack will find no fault there.
Excuse me but, all sailing boats have some kind of motor or engine. In case of no wind. Dur. Haven't you seen a small out board engine hanging from the back of a sail boat before. I have. On most little sailing boats.

Sailing yatchs have bad reputation on the megatach world? XD Maybe they have bad reputation among those severely lacking on aesthetic taste. You only have to take a look to some of the sailing beauties out there. But yes, one thing may be certain: for those who like sailing, you usually don't need such a big yatch, which can reduce the experiencie of being truly sailing and in control. There ate many sailing superyatchs in the 30-60 m range. Above that I think you start losing something on the sailing experiencie. But to be honest, 45 m saling yatch should be enough for most

Most dangerous part is the lithium batteries, a small fire there is super Dangerous and maybe can’t be put out by the crew!
