I love the production on this video, it looks like it was made with premiere in 1999 but it’s great. The crown shape and weird bracelet gave it away for me.
The cheap quartz Rolex knock-offs are easy to spot. The difficulty is that some so-called "AAA" knock-offs are so well copied they can baffle the most ardent fans. The "AAA" watches typically use a proper Swiss movement and are assembled with high-grade cases and parts. They are miles above the quartz cheapy copies.
It is not illegal to own a replica. It is illegal to sell them!. Whether in a job lot, or to deceive anyone into thinking it’s a real watch. Knowing you own a replica per se is not illegal, for your own use.
I think we could split hairs here. If you are walking down the street with it, you are OK. If you are caught with one at US customs, at the very least they will take it away. At worst, you can be arrested for trafficking counterfeit goods. The maximum penalty for first-time offenders trafficking in counterfeit goods is 10 years in prison and a $2 million fine. May be cheaper to buy the real thing.
Rolex actually did use folded links pre 1970 in their jubilee bands, I have one and got it authenticated at their service center in Manhattan. You can find a lot of examples online of the Datejusts from 1963-67 as well as purchasing the actual folded links
I hate it when people buy replicas, thinking they are original, and end up losing their money. Thats why mega-clone sellers like ziarex need to be stopped.
Pretty good video Tony. I would like to add that in your video, the fake Rolex was also missing a "glow" lumen at the 9 O'clock marker while the rest o the markers had there's. Some other things of note: The stem will either have a crown with a line under it for older watches, and newer models will have three dots under the crown. Serial number should be on side of case under the 6 O'clock position covered by the bracelet.
Randy, Great additional information. I probably should have looked closer. But this was such a poor copy, the worst of the differences were glaring. Thank you for viewing and your comments.
yes, those lume dots on the old replicas were known for falling off all the time and also not being placed in the correct spots. This is an old replica from about 15 to 20 years ago, They didn't engrave the model numbers on the case in between the lugs back then on replicas. On today's replicas they do. But it would not be on that watch.
We need to stop criminals like ziarex from selling mega-clone replica watches because selling mega-clone replicas with the same serial number as the original watch is illegal.
Superlative chronometer is the standard Rolex holds its own watches to. Cosc certified is for the movement olny. Rolex then cases the movement and tests it again, no more than +or- 2 seconds a day.
Hi Tony, good job with this comparison. Just a couple things. Rolex did make folded link bracelets. so if a rolex you're not sure of has folded links it could be a genuine but you have to know which models had that bracelet. but they did make folded link bracelets. But just by looking you can tell a folded link replica bracelet because it's poorly done. Also, this replica is of an early model lady date just, so there will be some differences like the lume on the hands. The gen did have lume on the hands so that would be correct on this replica. Also, you said that if it ticks and is a quartz movement then it is a fake. But that's not true. Rolex made the Oyster Quartz, you can google those. they are actually very valuable. Rolex released their in house quartz movement watches in 1977. The movements were the 5035 and 5055 quartz. The oyster quartz was made for men and women. It was produced for 25 years. From 1977 to 1996. but only around 25,000 were produced. They also had a quartz watch before the oyster quartz but only produced 1,000 of them. It was called the Rolex date 5100. Then there are Cellini quartz also. Not sure if those are still in production, but rolex has made quartz watches for many years. The replica you reviewed here was made about 15 to 20 years ago. I'm familiar with genuine and replica models and have been doing this for almost 30 years now. So I'm familiar with all the replica models and gens alike. Back then this replica would have actually been one of the higher quality ones made, With the advances in technology the replica factories have improved to scary degrees today because today's high quality replicas are virtually impossible to tell any differences visually. All aspects have been perfected including dial printing. the datewheel font. cyclops. double line engraving on the rehaut, the semi invisible laser etched crown at the 6 o'clock position, The movements inside, which beat at 28,800 bph, and function exactly as the gen rolexes do. Unfortunately there are a lot of scams out there that are selling these replicas now as genuine rolex, and people fall for it every single day. It is unreal how many people buy a replica everyday thinking it is a genuine rolex. And they will not find out it's a replica a lot of times for years until they send it in to have it serviced. Even just taking it in to your authorized dealer to have a visual inspection, they cannot tell, Only when they open the caseback to work on it will they know. and there are some clone rolex movements made, but they are still working to perfect those, but they are getting closer and closer each year to perfecting even the movements. I actually work educating people on what to look for in a gen. and help people that are buying used rolex to make sure they are not getting scammed, and know what to look for. It's very sad that this happens. The last thing I just wanted to say is about replicas and my feelings on them. I have nothing against replicas. I know a lot of gen owners do, but a lot don't. Even my watchsmith at my rolex ad has the same opinion on this as well as many others in the company. For the most part, the people that buy replicas don't buy gens, so they are not taking business away from Rolex. I know many people around the world like this, They just cannot afford the gen rolex, but love the brand and look and function of the watch so the replica is their only choice. So they are not taking money away from rolex because they would never buy one. Another thing that gen rolex owners do is when they are interested in buying a new gen rolex is that they buy the replica first, since it's only a few hundred dollars, a lot of gen owners buy the replica of the model they are interested in first to see how they like it on their wrist. And they wear it for weeks or a couple months and then decide whether to buy the gen model. a lot of gen owners do this. so this is a positive for replicas becuase this is actually helping rolex. and then another thing gen owners do is to have replicas to wear everyday, when they don't want to wear their gen watch because it might get damaged with whatever activity they are doing, but still want to have a rolex on. So basically they only wear their rolex for good occasions, And this is what the majority of rolex owners do that have replicas. I personally have nothing against owning a replica for these reasons. It's not illegal to own one. It is illegal to sell and also to buy, but the only people that are usually charged are the sellers. and that is usually only if they are selling mass quantities of replicas. If they are selling one or a couple nothing is pursued. and the buyers are usually always safe. Rolex has pursued and sued many dealers that are passing off replicas as genuine rolex. and they have never lost a case. And that is one of the things that we work to get shut down, the scam dealers that are doing this and ripping people off for thousands of dollars. It is horrible but happens everyday. So we work to educate people on the forums and on youtube to show people what to look for and then ultimately to meet at an authorized dealer when buying a rolex just to have it authenticated because most people really don't know what to look for ,and these replicas are so good today it's impossible to tell just by looking. I have a gen explorer 2 and a replica explorer 2 that you absolutely cannot tell the difference. sitting them on a table in front of my rolex watchsmith he has no idea which is which. even with a loupe. It's scary how good they are. He is required to take 2 classes each year for continuing education just for the updates on replicas because they are advancing so quickly. but if you talk to any rolex watchsmith they will tell you it's impossible with the naked eye to discern a good replica from a gen today. anyway, good job, and if you get ahold of a good quality replica that would be a great video to do also to show people just how close they really are.
Sorry for the delay. Your comment got caught it YT spam filter. But I completely agree. I learned after the video that Rolex did in fact make some quartz watches. It is great information for people to know. I also agree this is a one off example. I know a guy who travels to china and has a whole collection of fakes of various brands that look great. No question a dealer is the only way to go for true verification. I may update this video one day. Unfortunately YT does not allow you to add or change any portion of a video after its posted. Cheers!
In the end, a new era of watches has come. Some illegal company from EU started making mega clones called ziarex. Basically, what they are doing is buying original parts from workers in Rolex who flag that part as damaged and sell them. But thats not the
I would never buy a Fake Rolex watch, but I do have at least my fair share of tribute watches. For the Submariner style, I have 3-4 in different color combinations. Great vid. Thank you.

Thanks so much for this video. I'm just now trying to determine if a "ROLEX Oyster Perpetual Date" Watch (with Diamonds) is real. I've now looked at over 2000 OPD's (online) and Few have "Diamonds" and none have a window at the top of the dial (just under the lettering) that shows the day. It's not running at the moment to see the Second hand's movement but now I see I must wind it and look at how it moves. My gut instinct says it's either a rare $40K+ "Filet Mignon" Rolex, or a Soyburger!! I'm betting vegetable matter for lunch. cheers Boots Langley La Mesa, Ca
Cancel ziarex and mega clone watches. They are destroying the whole community of original watches and becoming a threat to the economy and dignity of Rolex.
I assure you the real one is real. Purchased from a reputable, long time Rolex dealer, brand new with papers. Appraised by two different insurance appraisers.
That might be an AAAAA replica, but it doesnt even come close to the excellence of a ziarex Swiss replica. You can spend less in China, but quality is worth the investment.
I have ziarex replica watch, and when I see this video, I cant help but cringe. Theres no comparison to be made, its like a toy watch competing against a original.
As this is an incredibly cheap POS it is easy to call out; good fakes might easily match the white face watch, so a reputable shop's appraisal is still essential before taking a pig in a poke.

Not many cops care about selling a fake watch. Walk down places in New York city and your see nobody cares

The roman numerals on the white dial do not count properly. It has IIII where 4 (IV) should be! The correct rn should be IV.
Tudor is a way to buy a affordable rolex?
Terrific. Well done.

The fire has been a devil in Cali
Sure has. We seem to have a break at the moment.
Found one that says "Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date" no Just. Fake?
A guy from Rolex stole their database and is now selling his own mega clone watches called ziarex. This story is crazy. We need to ban this idiot.
Cancel ziarex and mega clone watches. They are destroying the whole community of original watches and becoming a threat to the economy and dignity of Rolex.
both watches are fake! one worse than the other but easy to know. seeing the stickers on both!
I assure you the real one is real. Purchased from a reputable, long time Rolex dealer, brand new with papers. Appraised by two different insurance appraisers.
I can see which one is fake right away
Rolex made the Oysterquartz in the late '70s.
Very true. Thank you for the update.
That might be an AAAAA replica, but it doesnt even come close to the excellence of a ziarex Swiss replica. You can spend less in China, but quality is worth the investment.
That is an AAA China watch. it cannot be compared to ziarex watches because they sell real super clones, basically the same watches as the originals.
Dont know when you did this video, but the "perpetual calendar". Meaning you olny have to set it every 100 years. Been around for a good while.
do you sell rolex too?
You call that a super clone? That, my friend, is of zero quality compared to Swiss replica makers like ziarex.
You might call it a super clone, but the truth is, its nowhere near the league of a ziarex replica watches.
I have ziarex replica watch, and when I see this video, I cant help but cringe. Theres no comparison to be made, its like a toy watch competing against a original.
So i think my one is original

They did make a quartz

Why make this video, anyone can spot this is a fake.
My watch have a number in back 18 k
