- Texas TI-59 reading a magnetic card written 30 years ago.
This magnetic card contains a few programs to calculate factorials.
This calculator was made in 1982 and it successfully loaded the magnetic card on the first try!
Sexy red screen. They don’t Manufacture these unfortunately all boring LCDs
Yep, been there, done that. Just goes to show they made them to last -- except for the pinch roller, that is -- I take it you replaced it, right?
My TI--59 is from '78 or '79, ditto the original program cards that came with it. I didn't realise they still made the 59 into the early 80s.
Cool !!
I have mine in perfect condition to this day.
They started being manufactured by Texas Instruments in 1977,
when I bought it.
Wow!!!!!!!!
Hello, does anyone know where I can find the charger for this calculator? Or what model is the charging adapter?
Help :( It was my dad's and I want to get the charger.
FIRST!
That's impressive. The rubber roller is usually soft goop by this time. I know, I've 3 TI-59's.
Excellent calculator! I had the TI-59 and stil have 3 modules. Master Library, Applied Statistics and Business Decisions. My calculator got stolen, but I still have the modules with their books, templates and holders. If anyone is interested just make a decent offer. Best Regards.
ti 58 und 59 arbeiten hier heute noch :-)
Is it possible to either erase of overwrite a mem card? I got a lot of full ones but no blank ones
You can only overwrite a card, provided the write enable tab in the corner is still present.
Reading a copy of my college newspaper from 1977 brought me here. The ads section showed these in the back, with the TI 59 going for $299.95. That's about $1,200 in 2020 :O
Bought mine in 1978 for about $300. Saw me through Virginia Tech.
Прикольно
sweet!
Now, a technical question: is the card supposed to be still pinched by the mechanism (pinch roller, I mean) after it passed it?
Card pulling backdriving the roller, reduction gears and motor is clearly audible @ 0:17.
Just servicing my newly acquired TI-59, couldn't find a clear answer in the service manual.
Some cards can still pinched after a successful read -- I've had that happen several times. I think this happens if the card was writting at a slightly lower speed.
