This video shows how to measure CNC machine backlash amount using a digital gauge and then apply that error to MACH3 as backlash compensation and measure the improvement.
It's important to mention what backlash is: It is distance that's lost when you change directions. This is why on your first experiment you saw zero, but on your second experiment you saw non-zero. It is because on the second experiment, you continued on the same direction as the history, and thus not accumulated backlash. (But did accumulate backlash when you came back, because a direction was changed)
Hello. I did the same and backlash movement is working BUT, backlash distance shouldnt be calculated in moving distance right? No matter how much backlash distance i enter, the exact backlash is still present. Any suggestions?
Most eBay/Chinese USB interface cards will not compensate for backlash. Along with a number of other features that the more expensive Interface cards give you i.e GetVar( 2002 ) I bought a Ethernet Smooth Stepper interface card (bloody expensive in Australia) and all these features work.

Remember to enable backlash compensation. That step is shown. Save setting and reboot machine.
@@crazynanoman thank you for fast answering, I checked backlash enabled checkbox and rebooted mach3, but didnt reboot my pc if you mean reboot pc?
@@MatthewScope Please see my comment below.
Thanks
backlash is not working. there is no reaction. as if no digits were entered. what could be the problem?
Make sure you have backlash enabled in the options.
@@crazynanoman It was a problem with the cnc card. I solved that problem. thanks
hello, Can you check repeatability?
