KULINTANG is a traditional Filipino indigenous instrument. It's 8 gongs traditionally? made with brass. It's usually played in a Kulintang Ensemble with other instruments like the Dabakan (drums), Gandingan(4 large melodic gongs) , Agong(2 father and son gongs for bass), and another instrument to keep time but i'm forgetting the name right now. My highschool teacher is a Kulintang musician and he taught me and my friend some songs and we used to go perform with him. Also to note, traditionally there is no sheet music for this so each song (from different regions) is passed on orally and you need to memorize it.
It's actually called "Kulintangan" from the local dialect of the Muslim tribes in Mindanao - the Yakans, Tausogs, Maranaos, among others.
Sounds like xylophone...it's a. 'tribal drums' played by the different tribes in Mindanao. Gary V. can play many musical instruments. He's an awesome multi-talented artist.🤗👏😘🎼🇵🇭
@@LeeSastre oh nice. Is kulintangan the name for when the ensemble gets together to play? Coz the instrument itself is Kulintang right? #themoreiknow
You and your teacher are awesome.
@@caelannsj3581 thank you! He is awesome as he is trying to preserve the teachings of his late teacher Master Kalanduyan while also figuring out his own sound, all while promoting our traditional music in the US soil. He actually recently released his music and it's on spotify.
Also he's double awesome for being able to teach the musically challenged me lol
The dancers in jackets are called Manuevers and were primarily Gary’s dancers. I could be mistaken but that’s what I remember. 🤔
That is a "kulintang" - a percussion instrument from southern Philippines.
It's also known as a "gamelan." Search it in Wikipedia for the definition.
@@SelwynClydeAlojipan Gamelan is from Indonesia and is composed of 2 rows of metal gongs whereas the kulintang is an ethnic instrument of Mindanao, Philippines and only has one row of 8 metal gongs
@@mitchfrancisco02 yeah in the lake sebu at t'boli south cotabto they played that instrument they have that called cultural night and during t' nalak festival of south cotabato
Sayaweh means dance for God. Sayaw means dance and Yaweh means God.
would love to see Shout For Joy 😍😍😍
I have seen Gary V.'s performed in my younger years and he's a great singer and dancer. Yeah, truly.
Wale and Efra, thank you for spotlighting Gary V again. Just a note on the song's title: "Sa Yahweh," meaning "to God" (biblically, Yahweh is God's name). Despite it's fast beat, this is a Christian song - something you would expect out of a Gary Valenciano who wears his faith on his sleeves. Interestingly, though, "sayaw" means dance in most Filipino languages; thus, Gary V put the words "sayaw" and "Yaweh" (SaYaweh) together to create another meaning: "a dance for God" or "Let's dance to God." The percussion instrument he played at the start is "kulintang" which is native to Mindanao, Malaysia, and Indonesia. This effectively gave this pop/Christian tune a Filipino flavor. More of Gary, Martin, and Regine please.
You’re gonna love his home quarantine version of this song from last year.
This song was released back in 1994 and still sounds so good.
you should react to his song "SHOUT FOR JOY" truly amazing..
We just celebrated the Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino (OPM week) last week (last week of July). We are proud of the Filipino artistry and ingenuity. A lot of it is featured in this performance. Salamat sa inyo.
yeah !!I love Gary V too since the 80s high school time. Now Im having fun watching tis again. Thanks to both of you guys for this video..Watchig all the way here in Saudi Arabia....God bless...
“Sa Yahweh ang Sayaw” (Dance for Yahweh) was released in 1993. But the concert you’re watching was from Arise 2014. It’s a revisit to all the Gary V hits and a reunion with his backup dancers (from 1989 to so many performances) Maneuvers, the erstwhile Philippine premier dance group from 80s to early 2000s. The group is now well into their 40s when they performed with Gary in this concert. Aside from the younger Streetboys, Maneuvers take pride in their intricate and in-synced dance and gymnastic moves.
You should have seen Gary during his younger days as a performer , he is just a phenomenal freak of nature .
The instrument is called the "kulintang"... It's the same instrument used in KZ's "Marupok" 😉
And EZ Mil's Panalo, right?
Gary V is awesome. A true total performer and has inspired millions. Manouevers is the dance group that choreograph most of his songs/dance and they are his back up dancers for the longest time. Maybe you can also react on famous Filipino dance groups during the 90s. They’re awesome as well like the singers.
I remember the days that I will see all Gary V.’s concerts (1st day, 2nd day, repeats) because I always feel like that I am getting all the endorphin shots. You will always leave the concert elated. Good times.
we call that instrument " kulintang " originated from mindanao province in the philippines.
He's actually a good drummer too 😊
He's known to be an excellent singer and dancer.
This song gets me everytime. This performance brought the house down.
Hope Gary posts more from the Arise concert.
Undoubtedly, undisputed, well deserve title of Concert king of the PH for the longest time.
Martin and Gary are contenders of being "Philippine Concert King."
Thanks for this. Gary is one of our enjoyable live performers with his dancing and singing prowess.
Guys i love you... thanx for featuring Gary V...yeheyyyyyy
..he is so talented man...love him so much
I remember this, he was 44 years old then, he was alone in the stage, and then one by one the maneuvers went up the stage and backed him up
He said ‘the original manuevers’. The Manuevers are his official dancers to all his concerts and performances for more than 20 years maybe... he was introducing the original members that time.
That is why gary v is mr. Pure energy
Gary V is our Mr Pure Energy of Philippines
That’s why Gary is called Mr. Pure Energy. He used to perform with his dancers called The Maneuvers who’s with him in this video.
Gary is such a gem! Happy to have experienced seeing his concerts. Best times! I Hope you can also find a video of Babalik Ka Rin where different local instruments were also used
Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano.

an upbeat worship song, sa Yahweh, purihin Siya, the God, let praise Him.
gary V . is a pure energy in the philippines
That instrument it's called a Kulintang/Kumintang... It's an ethnic instrument in the island of Mindanao... It's actually steel drums shaped in various sizes to create the different levels of tones/sounds. It's a musical instrument played by the Mindanao cultural minorities during festivities... 😊
The song Sa Yahweh ang Sayaw (Dance is for the Lord) was released in 1994 and was actually written as a praise song, in fact it's somewhat a staple in many Christian church presentations here in the Philippines.
There are some concerts that he also played the conga and the drums....
Hi Waleska! Can I suggest that you make a reaction video to the song "Tell Me" and "Without You" by one of the finest singers here in the Philippines named Joey Albert? These songs are not like the songs of other singers with belting parts instead they are full of emotion like moira de la torre. Hope you notice this. Thanks a lot!! Sending love from the Philippines !!
Gary V. is the "Michael Jackson" of the Philippines. He is good in dancing while singing.
Gary V is the best of the best ♥

KULINTANG
SAYAW is to dance
YAUEH is God

The Lady who was pinned last was one of The countries Drama Movie Icon Maricel Soriano.
His dancers are great dancers during those days...its manuever dancer... handsome men...2 of them from my place...they are brothers
😍😍 The kulintang of the Southern Philippines.
Gary V's back up singers here was AKA JAM, the girl group Gary V mentored at X Factor Philippines where he was one of the mentor judges. Katrina Velarde was a member of this group.
He made a homemade music video of that song during the pandemic. You can see how much free time he got to make a good production show in his own home. It's really entertaining to watch how he's having fun in making that video. 😂 You should check it out!
SaYahweh = Dance for God. 💕💃 Hope you react also to Gracy V's SHOUT FOR JOY! Classic! He became a fave when I see him perform this song, plus the song itself. 🙌
The song is released in 1994 under the Hataw Na album. So you're exactly right about that 90s vibe of the music.
Those are brass gongs called *kulintang*. Indigenous musical instrument.
Efri is spot on: kulintang is in the percussion family.
The kulintang (or kolintang) is also in music of Indonesia + Malaysia.
Steel drums are in Caribbean.
Pinay singer 🇵🇭 Julie Anne San Jose is a drummer. 🥁 Somebody check if she can play the kulintang.
Great performance. 😃
🇵🇭
Honesty, this has been one of my favourite praise songs!!!! Dance and Praise oh come on... only Mr. Pure Energy does this.

Sayaweh is released 1994, it is a song along with Hataw na which is in a movie with Ms Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres here in the Philippines
it's similar to the gamelan an Indonesian (Javanese, Balinese) percussion instrument. This Filipino version is called Kulintang and very popular in the southern parts of the Philippines.

Sa Yahweh came out in the 90's, hence the Phil Collins reminder. =) Gary's backing dancers are called Manoeuvres. They started dancing for him a gazillion years ago- 2 generations of them, methinks. Even the backing band, Powerplay had been with Gary practically from the beginning. Session musicians and vocalists are just added depending on the show requirements. The show's music director, Mon Faustino, is the band's 1st keyboardist, and arranger.
Sayaweh is an alliteration of two words - Sayaw which means to dance, and Yahweh which means the "name of God". He's celebrating God through dance.
Back in the 90s, before we learn about kpop, These are the thing. We have dance groups like Street boys, Maneuvers, UMD, Sexbomb girls are the first one I know that Dance and Sing at the same time. We have our OPM bands, Gary, Regine, Jaya, Ogie. These is pretty much what I grew up.
*_thats kulintang. musical instruments from mindanao region part of the PH. thats was use a very long time ago of our ancestors and until now!_*
