being able to put manga apps on it is a big selling point for me. I like them but always hate reading on my iPad or phone
I was comparing the Go Color 7 and the Kobo Libra Colour, and your videos on each helped a lot. Thank you! I went with the Go Color 7 mainly because it’s Android, and cause the Kobo quickly gets quite pricey when you add a case and stylus
Great! Hope you enjoy it!
I ordered mine today, of course. Thanks for the video, Olly! :)
Fantastic!
I'm definitely buying one of these
Many thanks for the review. Have ordered it already!
Hope you enjoy it!
@@CriminOllyBlog I really wanted to like it but it’s going back unfortunately. The ghosting is excessive for me on the color content no matter which e-ink mode I select and the device seems to need a reboot most of the time when waking up from sleep. Love the hardware but the underlying OS issues are holding it back. Quite disappointed tbh!
Brilliant pre-review Olly. I really wanted to see what Shonen Jump looked like on it. I think it's convinced me to pull the trigger and buy one of these. My eyes get so tired reading manga and comics on my tablet. To get honest I'd love to get my news feed and magazines all on an e-ink device too (and not be bankrupted by the cost) and this seems like it could tick all the boxes and save my weary eyes! Great work again Olly
Thank you! Hope you like it!
hey ! thanks for the video ! would you let us know more about the battery life of the device and about the experience of reading with it outdoor in direct sunlight (amount of reflection , readability without the front light activated ) ?
Thanks for preview of Go 7! Do the apps for Play Books and Kindle run reliably and consistently? I have a Chromebook (HP X2) on which both of those reading apps tend to bomb out on a regular basis and require a deal of fiddling to get them going again. This is why I am interested in the Boox Go Color 7. Second question, can you comment on Go 7 vs Boox Page as pure reading vehicles: 95% of my projected use. 🙂
I am using the Note 2 plus from Boox and I love it, but sometimes I wish that I have a smaller device. I can't wait to hear your opinion on the e-reader
Amazing unboxing, thank you. Are you able to test how well does it work with PDF documents. I read lots of tabletop game books and they are usual in PDF with lots of diagrams about the game.
Just ordered mine
The Return of UnboxOLLY. At a theatre near you.
NOBODY needs to see me on a big screen 😂
@@CriminOllyBlog We’d love to see you in a Western with a big hat and a big moustache 😂

like it~ you uploaded outstadning footage- ))
Many thanks
I've been going back and forth with either: selling my Supernote A5x and getting something like the Boox Note Air 3C or even the Tab Mini C, OR keeping the Supernote and getting a color ereader, such as the Go 7 to be a companion device. I was worried about the smaller screen size (versus the Supernote) for reading comics and graphic novels.
Is your review with the lighting on all the time? Is the screen not dim with the lighting off?
Just got mines today also so far it looks ok but the kobo Libra color looks better but it's just my initial thoughts right now
Does this support any kind of stylus/note-taking/writing at all? Or is it just for reading?
300PPI (B&W) and 150PPI (Color). Does the mean that you can toggle between Black and white and color?
Would you recommend the Go Color 7 or Libra Colour? I'm liking my Libra Colour a lot but like you missing some Kindle things. My Libra Colour return window is closing so your thoughts appreciated. I am also not an annotator.
I will be doing a comparison video soon, but if you want to be able to easily read kindle books then the Go Color 7 will give you that. The Kobo does have better water resistance though I think
Will those physical side buttons be programmable for use with Kindle and other reading apps? Thanks.
One MORE question, dors it mount on a mac like an externat hard drive ?
Great video. Another youtuber (Kit Betts-Masters) did a video on color pages with the Go 7 Color and said that there doesn't appear to be a setting for a full page refresh per page turn. Has that also been your experience?
Thank you! Just had a look and I agree with him, I can’t see one. That said, the ghosting in the device generally is really minimal, I think Boox has some extra magic that cleans things up without doing a full refresh.
@@CriminOllyBlog Thanks for digging into this!
Although I may not want to view RUclips videos on a regular basis on the device, I imagine it will come in handy if I am reading a Murakami book and he mentions a particular piece of music. Then I can just go to RUclips to play a recording of that music.
Hi Olly, was the google playstore pre-installed? Looks like a nice device.
Yes - Play Store pre installed. Seems really solid so far
Does it have Bluetooth? Have you tried connecting bluetooth headphones to it?
Does it have USB-OTG? for external keyboard, usb sticks etd. ?
Is it easy to wirelessly download ebooks or side load them? You probably don’t have access to the Libby app for audiobooks, but that would be important. It probably would work if there is access to a full Android App Store.
If ever have to abandon the Kinlde the Boox looks like a good option so far as I have seen.
No problem with that. Boox devices work exactly the same as the android tablet.
I think it should work fine with Libby, and very easy to either sideload using Calibre or from a Google Drive or similar.
Would you please include an affiliate link to a cover. Thank you.
I bought a Box Now Air 3c. Returned it after a week (which cost about $100 in fees). Too heavy and the workflow as a writer was just not good enough. Going to try the Supernote next when the A5X2 comes out.
This one in your video looks like a nifty ereader at least. I have a Kobo though from a few years ago and love it. I'm looking more for a writer not a reader, but this device looks pretty cool.
You should consider the Boox Go 10.3.
@@doctor1alex It's not off the list, but they'd have to have dramatically improved the workflow for writing.
@@t0dd000its a cheapened version of the Note Air, nothing will be better
When reading a novel. Does it display the book cover in colour when off like Kindle (B&W) etc??
The lock screen is customisable. Think if this as more of a tablet than a Kindle.
Boox Go Color 7 or Bigme B751C?? Does Onyx support a kobo stylus??
If I download the Kindle app, can I set a Kindle Book Cover of an ebook I'm reading on the Boox Color 7 lock screen?
I will get the white bezel version
This is a device I'm very interested in. Just not sure about the price.
Does it have a micro sd card option, also what about the dark, is there a backlight?
Yes and yes
@@CriminOllyBlog Sold, Feels good being able to read in the dark without a booklight and limitless storage, I wanna test this on.CBR files, and this would be great for bedtime reading, also is there a night model or revert?
Not sure if it's something you want to test, but does it work with VPN apps to access region-locked content? I'd imagine so if it's just Android with a custom launcher, but maybe it's more stripped down than I am imagining.
Seems to work fine with Nord!
@@CriminOllyBlog Thanks for checking!
Thanks , what s your impression vs kobo color ?
Can we disable the color option somewhere in settings and make it fully B&W?
Nope, I don't think so
Canyou flip the display to keep the thicker bezel on the left for left handed readers?
Absolutely!
@@CriminOllyBlog SOLD!!
Did you have the front light on?
Yes about 30% I think
So there is no new change to the color technology yet after i year...😢i will just keep waiting until the colors are more vibrant and not dark
Battery life would be interesting with this android setup
E-readers normally go for days and weeks...sadly, I highly doubt this one would. Although it's very interesting. My only other concern outside of the battery is that Android tends to get slower by age. Let's hope it can be ready every time it's turned on.
@@onmywayto974 i know what kindle devices can achieve regarding battery life, but if the thing runs android, maybe things are a little different ?? I hope not, but would be interesting
@@rlindbuechl790 Yep. So far, I haven't seen anything lasting longer than 3 days of battery life under Android. However, since this is a reader-first tablet maybe it'll be different. Hopefully it is good. I think there's a pre-order right now like mid-200 range. I'm tempted lol
@@onmywayto974Boox uses a GPU in their color eink devices that drains the battery. The B&W ones still have batteries that last weeks
🖤💚
Please review pdf files in the full review if possible
I think the prices on e-readers have really shot up, maybe because they have become so poplular
is it water resistant?
Nope, none of Boox devices are
Kobo or Boox?
I'll be doing a comparison video at some point!
Think I’ve bought enough e-readers lol
lol same
Unfortunately, the screen is a step back when it comes to reading ita dimmed and grained
can you take notes on it?
No stylus support
Jujutsu kaisen!!!!! You should read it!!!
Funnily enough a colleague at work mentioned it the other day because his son loves it. I might give it a try!
Kibi libre colour
No way i got jjk spoilers from an ereader review 😭😭
😭😭😭
Oh no! Sorry!!! That didn't even occur to me!
yeah fuck this guy he did that on purpose that's like an insain spoiler too
That side bezel is way too big though.
I think it’s entirely deliberate to give you a decent area to hold. The other bezels are some of the slimmest on an e-reader I think
Try to use the Birds Eye view format for unboxing devices.
Staring at the top of your head for half the video was not that interesting.
Fair! I’m still fairly new to this kind of video but you’re right that would work a lot better.
Completely unbiased but you got the device for free *and* you get kickbacks for sales? Yeah, that's not unbiased. That's the very definition of a conflict of interest.
