I worked for a Council and they are the laziest and inept people imaginable. They only work half their hours and either are off sick, at a "meeting" or have taken the day off. They spend money as if its going out of fashion. At the start of January every year they tell you to spend your budget or else you get less budget the following year. A complete waste of money. I brought it up at a meeting one time and my days were numbered after that as they ostracised me. I applied for another job in the private sector and left. I was glad as i didnt like the attitudes and the atmosphere or the idea of getting away with it all. These civil service jobs could easily be done by a quarter of the staff.

Council Tax is illegal. There is NO obligation to pay Council Tax. If you don't pay, the procedure is as follows. 1. The council will issue their own summons with no judge's name on it. 2. The court that they invite you along to is set up by the council and is not a genuine court. It is merely set up to scare you into paying. 3. If you still fail to pay, the council will send you a "notice" of a liability order which again is not valid as it is only a verbal agreement and cannot be issued on paper by a court. You will be hard pushed to find any signatures on any of the documentation you receive, this is due to the fact that anyone signing these documents could be liable to prosecution for fraud, demanding money with menaces and other charges.The form used to draw up liability orders was removed in October 2003 in England and no substitute form was put in it's place. This is where the law becomes unenforceable. If any of you know of anybody who has been to prison for non-payment of council tax, then they have refused to pay openly and then they have consented to prison time unwittingly. Never refuse to pay it, simply ask the council for proof of your obligation to pay and also ask them for an invoice for VAT purposes. They will quote the Local Government and Finance Act 1992 but they won't quote the actual paragraph or section they are relying on because it doesn't exist. I once had this once. They sent all these summons things. None of which had a judges name and no signatures. It said it went to the well known court in Northampton. We were in Nottinghamshire. But all of these end up at some high court in Northampton. For some reason. And you never get the summons to appear just the decision. After the so called case has been heard. That court turns out to be a warehouse complex in that city. However they said I had to pay them court fees for this and the letter or summons that they sent. And court fees. The letter was just a copy of their letter. No difference. Except on pink paper instead of the usual white paper. So I went to pay the tax owed and paid it at their offices. They asked for the court fees and I refused. Asking instead which court it was and I’ll go there and pay. They said I was not allowed to do that. So I asked again. Is it magistrates or county high court. Again I can’t do that they said. So I pointed out the letters were not from any court they were just usual council letters on pink paper not official court documents. So not paying. I went to both courts we have, neither had any record of the case I was referring to. I never paid the court fees. This was over 35 years ago. Still not paid. Nothing heard since.

Our 1960s public leisure centre right in the town centre was torn down to make way for hundreds of new flats (and half a dozen private gyms have opened too). A big tranche of those flats have allegedly been bought by a London council for social housing; if true it will massively change the character of the town.
If a council declares itself bankrupt it means the council are unfit to be dealing with spending the publics money and they should all immediately be sacked and another group of people should replace them.

Hiking council tax up will result in mass arrears for people who are unable to pay (those who genuinely have paid all the time but will find the extra money impossible to find). Those who are not working (many are genuine and cannot for work for their own reasons - but there are those who can and just do not want to work), will have a council reduction making it easier, but it is the working person caught in the middle who will end up struggling and then having to face country court papers with a unwanted mark against their credit report if they get behind with their council tax. If this stupid lot in power had any sense they would find a way to avoid such a hike how about stop sending millions abroad and put the money into the councils. For gods sake when will this all end!

My council is owed 24 million in unpaid council tax from 2019, still chasing it. After 6 years, it's written off. They admit they are not going to recover most of it. Sod the corrupt system don't pay it.

I live in France in the countryside. Our property tax is 350 Euros per year. In the UK for a similar property and location we would pay around £2000. Also to buy our property in the UK would cost three times the value. People in the UK are being ripped off big style.

They are audited! Whatever the internal auditor recommends is only a recommendation - no Power to sanction. The External Auditor will report pretty much what the internal auditor says and tell them not to do it again. There is no sanction on badly managed and financially incontinent councils at all.

Council Tax is illegal. There is NO obligation to pay Council Tax. If you don't pay, the procedure is as follows. 1. The council will issue their own summons with no judge's name on it. 2. The court that they invite you along to is set up by the council and is not a genuine court. It is merely set up to scare you into paying. 3. If you still fail to pay, the council will send you a "notice" of a liability order which again is not valid as it is only a verbal agreement and cannot be issued on paper by a court. You will be hard pushed to find any signatures on any of the documentation you receive, this is due to the fact that anyone signing these documents could be liable to prosecution for fraud, demanding money with menaces and other charges.The form used to draw up liability orders was removed in October 2003 in England and no substitute form was put in it's place. This is where the law becomes unenforceable. If any of you know of anybody who has been to prison for non-payment of council tax, then they have refused to pay openly and then they have consented to prison time unwittingly. Never refuse to pay it, simply ask the council for proof of your obligation to pay and also ask them for an invoice for VAT purposes. They will quote the Local Government and Finance Act 1992 but they won't quote the actual paragraph or section they are relying on because it doesn't exist. ALL councils are corporations and are registered with Dunn and Bradstreet and have a 9 digit Dunns number. Ask yourself "How can a government department (council) go bankrupt"? I once had this once. They sent all these summons things. None of which had a judges name and no signatures. It said it went to the well known court in Northampton. We were in Nottinghamshire. But all of these end up at some high court in Northampton. For some reason. And you never get the summons to appear just the decision. After the so called case has been heard. That court turns out to be a warehouse complex in that city. However they said I had to pay them court fees for this and the letter or summons that they sent. And court fees. The letter was just a copy of their letter. No difference. Except on pink paper instead of the usual white paper. So I went to pay the tax owed and paid it at their offices. They asked for the court fees and I refused. Asking instead which court it was and I’ll go there and pay. They said I was not allowed to do that. So I asked again. Is it magistrates or county high court. Again I can’t do that they said. So I pointed out the letters were not from any court they were just usual council letters on pink paper not official court documents. So not paying. I went to both courts we have, neither had any record of the case I was referring to. I never paid the court fees. This was over 35 years ago. Still not paid. Nothing heard since.

Our 1960s public leisure centre right in the town centre was torn down to make way for hundreds of new flats (and half a dozen private gyms have opened too). A big tranche of those flats have allegedly been bought by a London council for social housing; if true it will massively change the character of the town.
If a council declares itself bankrupt it means the council are unfit to be dealing with spending the publics money and they should all immediately be sacked and another group of people should replace them.

Hiking council tax up will result in mass arrears for people who are unable to pay (those who genuinely have paid all the time but will find the extra money impossible to find). Those who are not working (many are genuine and cannot for work for their own reasons - but there are those who can and just do not want to work), will have a council reduction making it easier, but it is the working person caught in the middle who will end up struggling and then having to face country court papers with a unwanted mark against their credit report if they get behind with their council tax. There are many ways to lawfully refuse to pay council tax. Bills of exchange act - ask them for an itemised bill.

My council is owed 24 million in unpaid council tax from 2019, still chasing it. After 6 years, it's written off. They admit they are not going to recover most of it. Sod the corrupt system don't pay it.

Facts my old insurance company went into liquidation I never knew, and I recently received a back payment of £175, 18 months later.
Obviously they’d filled for bankruptcy and direct debits were still being taken from customers for a few months during that process.

I live in France in the countryside. Our property tax is 350 Euros per year. In the UK for a similar property and location we would pay around £2000. Also to buy our property in the UK would cost three times the value. People in the UK are being ripped off big style.
