I like the dismissive way she responds to his question of her writing her own songs, and the subtle shade she throws his way later by talking about how interviewers can have a set agenda before the interview even begins and how she'd rather be down the street hanging out with her artist friends looking at comics.
I love to listen to Tori speak on religion, gods, passion and women. I feel that she has a lot of wisdom that she has, and continues, to share...and actually, I like Charlie Rose a lot, too.
"That woman thing, did it change a lot after you saw that movie Thelma and Louise?" Charlie Rose, in the top 10 dumbest questions asked by a respected anchor.
I think she's so right about Jesus not being a Christian today. LOL. For reals! I also love the way she speaks of channeling music from somewhere else. I'm an author and I feel that way about my characters. That I"m hearing someone's story and writing it down. I have written poems and songs and not felt that way that I'm aware of so it's so cool music can be that way too with that form of channel.
Oh, this was painful to watch. I don't think Rose "got" Tori, I don't think he was a fan or familiar with her work. And she is, admittedly not a conventional interviewee. I think her affect also threw him. She's very articulate in her own way but I think Rose was getting impatient with her.
Tori is a terrible interviewee. She rambles and always seems to be saying the same thing with different and obtuse descriptors. Not so much now, thankfully. Her music speaks for itself beautifully and doesn’t need muddied by her less than eloquent interview style. Kate bush is a great example - she speaks plainly - and often not at all - as the music stand on its own and doesn’t need a constant framing back to her own personal ideology to let it shine.
hella interesting watching this interview after the #metoo scandal killed Rose's reputation. i can see the tensions here. she is so grossed out by him.
While I don't always agree with his politics, I very much admire him for the incredibly deep, searching questions he asks. I have a great deal of respect for him. Yes, he seems a bit aggressive at times here, but, let's face it, he's completely threatened by her and what she says! At least he has her on the show, and I LOVE the one-on-one, intimate aspect, as well. It's not your typical talk show crap. Try watching the show several times with other guests. It's the only way I get my news.
It wasnt a simpering journalist doing a puff piece here. I felt like he was really asking deeper questions, more than likely having been told or he heard she was very cerebrial in giving her answers.
I still feel "Bliss" is the best song Tori ever composed. It was so daring. "Me and a Gun," like "Strange Fruit," is in its own category. Kind of ironic that Charlie Rose (of all people) is interviewing her.
He is a creepy old man and his intention is to make her feel ill at ease but she would never allow that, she has been through far too much and knows far too much about predatorial men to let them get one over on her. That was more like an inquisition than an interview and the making love to the piano thing was just yucky but she came back and said "of course, its 9ft long",there you go Mr Rose, now who feels inadequate?
i was amazed at how she answered the questions in a way that totally addressed the elephant in the room, without directly attacking it. no question he was outfoxed here and proven to be another arrogant man believing to speak as a kind of pillar of intellectual sensibility.
Cringeworthy. She's poised and answers his questions gracefully. But the tension is palpable. He comes across as condescending with no sense of who she is. It's the way he asks the questions, he seems more interested in putting her on the spot than hearing what she has to say.
Why does the interviewer remind of everything that is wrong with this planet - a hunched over parasite, more dead than alive, feasting on the Sun that flows through the truly creative. Why do we need the media? What did they ever create? They've no light of their own so they feed off the light of others....and we let them
shes intelligent and he is being generic imo. artists stick out because they are out of the box thinkers so it seems they are crazy if you are used to getting generic awnsers. she is very unique
She basically improvises the answer about Bliss, instead of really answering it (and some others). Of course Bliss has nothing to do with Mary Magdalene, it's clearly basically about her and her father; Christian god doesn't (maybe) *bilocate*, he is *omnipresent*, everywhere at the same time. Of course she's right regarding Jesus - he most likely wouldn't be a Christian if he came to Earth today. He was essentially a Jewish fundamentalist. But the journalist is really asking tough questions. He could have been asking, hi Tori, great album, what are plans for the tour, how do you think people will accept your new songs, will we hear more piano songs in the future, more dance songs, etc And that implies the journalist think her work is serious stuff, not just some run of the mill. Which is essentially true.
Jesus Christ wasn’t a Jewish fundamentalist. He was against the fundamentalists. He was actually a Gnostic. Tori is right. Jesus Christ would not be a Christian. Today’s Christians are actually following the teachings of Paul. Paul was the one that talked about hell, sin, damnation, fear. Jesus Christ preached about a loving Father and Mother God. Gnostics are seekers of truth and knowledge. Tori Amos is definitely a Gnostic. She’s a great fighter of equal rights and human rights. Just like Jesus Christ was. He was a rebel. He was against religion. The religion of his time was too patriarchal and against the feminine principle.
i get that Tori is a fruit cake in some of her philosophies....i think she talks in weird circles......im not disrespecting her im a huge EWF but ive never really heard her do an interview that was clear cut ..... having said that most of the reporters or interviewers are kind of judging her as a "fruitcake" because of her process of thought and thats not fair
Tori is very talented but doesn't know Jesus Christ at all. Her perception of God is distorted unfortunately and clearly angry towards God because there is only one God and He most certainly is divine. I pray she accepts the Lord in her heart one day.
She's talking about the Christian teaching that SHE was brought up with. Since you weren't there, and neither was I, maybe... It's not your place to say what she does or doesn't know about spirituality. Listen to her again on this point. Closely.
Divide and Conquer a person with themselves, that's control." Ooohweee, she just said a mouthful! I love her so much.
Great take!
“Did you write all these songs?”
Tone deaf from start to finish lol
I like the dismissive way she responds to his question of her writing her own songs, and the subtle shade she throws his way later by talking about how interviewers can have a set agenda before the interview even begins and how she'd rather be down the street hanging out with her artist friends looking at comics.
She wanted to throw that glass of water at him. I just know she did lol
she'd really rather ...throw water instead...hehe
She is way above and beyond for his little realm to grasp to begin with.
Oh my Goddess, what a horrible, condescending attitude that man has. But she is absolutely brilliant 💖
God i just love the WAY she talks 💞
I was out at ‘did you write all these songs yourself’ 👀
😂
He treats her like a joke. Luckily she's great at making any interview great.
I love to listen to Tori speak on religion, gods, passion and women. I feel that she has a lot of wisdom that she has, and continues, to share...and actually, I like Charlie Rose a lot, too.

Charlie Rose respected?
@@joelewishenry7886 yes, he was respected by everyone and sometimes the only show certain people would do until he was caught being a skeez.

Maaaaan! She's SO deeply bright!!!
Tori is way smarter than he is.
what an aggresive old man
I seen T's Eyes turn into daggers a couple of times

There and now.
We love u
hella interesting watching this interview after the #metoo scandal killed Rose's reputation. i can see the tensions here. she is so grossed out by him.
his opening question in part one is extra revealing too.
Has this guy been outed as a sexual predator/harasser since then?I am not American so I do not know.
A #MeToo "victim" Asia Argento had sex with an underaged boy. The whole movement is sick.

Kind of a strange yet always interesting interview. Thx for posting! Great to see it.
It wasnt a simpering journalist doing a puff piece here. I felt like he was really asking deeper questions, more than likely having been told or he heard she was very cerebrial in giving her answers.
he's never intentionally aggressive, he just doesnt listen, is too loud and interjects too much.
I still feel "Bliss" is the best song Tori ever composed. It was so daring. "Me and a Gun," like "Strange Fruit," is in its own category. Kind of ironic that Charlie Rose (of all people) is interviewing her.
That was way over his head,he has no idea whatsoever she is talking about and he is insecure af.
read her book "Piece By Piece" if you haven't already and you might get a better understanding of her attitude.

Upenda Sana fascinating that this was your take on the interview.

Where is part 1??
Was Tori claring at the host? The host of this show seems to have rubbed quite a few artists the wrong way, or so many people have commented.
huh? what deep questions? he asks the most banal stuff and then makes a smug, pretentious face.
