It's not just the plants reacting to what's been a strange season, I notice changes in the wildlife too. Our planet is changing, naturally or otherwise. I love the intimacy of knowing every plant, it's like checking in with friends every time I walk past mine 😊

The changes are showing me I need more plants and less grass.

Beautiful gardens Jim and Steph!! You guys are stars of the gardening world to me! A wealth of knowledge! You’ve helped to turn this lady into a gardener and that says A LOT because I always thought I had a black thumb!! I just needed some knowledge, time, patience, and love for plants (and some cash). Thank you for bringing that out in me!!

We have Lilly of the Valley all over one side of our house. It came over when we moved in 1975 with some bushes my husband transplanted from his parents yard. I love the small lilies because they are old fashioned and remind me of them and my husband as they remind you of your mother, Stephanie.

I have edgeworthia envy Jim! At your open house, I asked you about what to do with mine. I ordered it from JLBG and it came as a long, single naked stick. It only branched into 2 smaller stems. I’ve kept it in a pot this season and I plan to pot it up next spring then plant it out next fall (it came in a 3 in pot so very small). I really hope I can get it into a shape similar to yours and others I’ve seen.

So many zone 7 plants that are absolutely beautiful. Just one zone away from our southern Ontario garden. It’s frustrating for sure. Thanks for the tour. Drew

@@HandcraftedintheFoothills I've heard people say they found theirs at Lowe's, but haven't seen any in a store near me. Might have more luck in the fall since they'll start to have some color, maybe they'll sell them then. Lowes does have them on their website!

Jim, I need help! My house faces North/Northwest. The house is on a hill, front yard gently slopes to the road, so in winter, the front yard doesn't get much sun. In summer it's nearly full sun. I'm wanting to put in a long berm near the road both for a little privacy and to break up the expanse of lawn. I need suggestions for plants that can tolerate both conditions. I'd love to incorporate fruit trees, blueberry bushes, etc.

Thx for Part 8 (7 plus drone) of this wonderful, in-depth tour of your fab garden. These plants are placed so interestingly!
it's inspiring to see, over + over -- and, refer to -- a beautiful, digital coffee table book that teaches.

    Jim, Steph,
Really love sooooo many of these foundation plants! The variegated osmanthus--does that have prickly leaves like the "Goshiki" variety or is it easier on the skin?
    Thank you. 😊

    Hi Jim and Steph,
Have you ever tried growing "bottlebrushes"?
Its a hardy bush with lovely coloured hair brush shaped flowers.
I think it's an Australian or NZ native.
Needs a hot spot with good drainage and regular watering first yr like most perenials.
I've got a neon pink and its in its 2nd season.
Im expecting its first flowers come summer.
Great pollinator plant and easy to keep in shape.
    Check out the zone situation.
    Jo. Nz😊

Hey, Jim. Just the question. I know it's not planting season for seeds of grass. But what seeds would you use in the fall for our hot climate for next year?
I live in Wilmington or let's say Holly Ridge. Topsail beach

Hi Jim, I recently watched your vids re small foundation shrubs and learned so much. I live in zone 9b Houston. I’m building out a couple beds that touch the south facing brick wall of my house. I’ve found that many plants when near the brick just cook in our summer sun. Do you have a recommendation for a small shrub that can withstand that kind heat? I love abelia.

"Daphne" is another hardy small perenial that has a beautiful scent.
Be nice in a pot with a low growing bellis perenis, that has a similar small pink and white daisy flower.
I grew one cutting in a pot but the one in the garden in the front border, semi shade, has grown 4 times faster.

Hi Jim! Can you include common names also? The Cestrum looks like my goldenrod. I guess i get confused cause i havent memorized the latin names.
My pineapple sage is already 5 ft tall. Its a great plant! Was sold as annual here 7b MD but it overwintered to my suprise.
Hinoki cypress are very expensive here, but they look kinda like arbs. Some very coral looking. Love them. I picked up santolina chamaecyparissus recently! It wasnt labeled at the nursery. I asked what it was and they said "evergreen groundcover" it smells like lavender!

Jim grows in mostly clay soil. There’s a small sandy area. He mentions the sand because it’s not his usual soil. You’ll learn a lot about growing in clay.

If climate is changing -- which drives weather -- and that, drives changes in plants' functions.
Then that drives changes in wildlife.
    Guess what else changes?
    Us.
We're part of the vast, interconnected universe. Intelligence is measured by how quickly -- if at all -- you're able to adapt.
Curiosity and acceptance -- acceptance is defined: "to willingly receive", so ACCEPTANCE OF CHANGE.
These talents may come to us so we may navigate the human condition, and nd, profit from it. In this example, "profit" doesn't refer to currency but to wisdom, knowledge, skills.
