i feel as if CMIYGL is an album that will age extremely well.
Same with Donda
I feel like it already is
As well as Whole lotta red
@@ikmco.7234 wlr will inspire a generation of new rappers imo
@@DaRealEarth1 history will try to make it look that way as if better versions of that arnt already popular in the underground
You should do this for each year, make it a series
Of course we definitely plan to keep building this series out for as long as you guys enjoy it🙏
that would be dope!
2017 was a great year for rap! Was tough to decide if these were classics or not… hope you guys enjoy!
It was the best year for sound cloud rappers🤣
great vid and I 100% agree that without warning is a classic
2017-2019 is an underrated era of rap in general. Everybody talks about 2016.
@@InnanetSlatt was flooded with soundcloud generic trap, that's the issue with me personally
Appreciate you!
Damn, DAMN. Is 5 years old? Feels like it came out yesterday, 2017 is a legendary year for hip-hop in my eyes
I LOVE 4:44. It’s one of the most mature hip hop albums of all time, it’s a fantastic and vulnerable project for Jay to add to his career. This album is very special to me. The fact that he also helped out with the production is a really cool aspect too.
I would argue for the community Die Lit is more of a classic than Carti’s self titled. Upon it’s release it didn’t get huge reception but years later that’s the project that got people hyped for WLR in the first place and people loved his sound
Die lit is by far cartis best project, and i agree, but s/t is in the video because the theme is 2017 projects
I think carti is kinda goofy sometimes but die lit is a great project
I still think I prefer Self Titled but I agree
Am I tripping if I say that More Life is my favorite Drake "album" after Nothing Was the Same? I'm not joking, I loved the versatility and almost all hip-hop tracks on here.
I enjoy it as well!
Underrated and overhated imo. Had some brilliant tracks like Passionfruit, Do Not Disturb and Sacrifices
This is a very respectable take… I’ve loved More Life for years and it’s aged like wine
You’re not tripping at all. It’s my favourite as well. It’s not a better album than say Take Care, NWTS or IYRTITL, but to me I just feel so good and happy, I have never felt as happy listening to an album as I do with More Life, it’s such a good vibe.
You tripping
I always comment on your videos before I finish them because the topics y’all choose just always spark something in me alone. But mannn I’m 26 now and looking back at 2017 as a whole, I consider that to be the last year as a certain chapter in my life. With that being said, most of these albums can bring me back to those times, the good and the bad, and it’s just super nostalgic for me and I love it. You guys stay killing it. I look forward to your content every week. 🙏🏼🔥
We can definitely relate to how nostalgic 2017 feels like as a year… new chapters in life are exciting🙏 thank you for consistently pulling up and showing us love Lane
It was my second year in highschool definitely brings back some memories
crazy that no one in the comments is talking about 4:44!! this album was the best album in 2017 (respectfully bc of DAMN.) but the consistency of Hov on this album was phenomenal and the No I.D. production was Jay’s best production on any album.
Classics are so hard to determine for me… a definition of Classic for me are projects like 2014 FHD or GKMC… it makes it super hard to determine when an album is a Classic because the bar is set so high. I think there are 3 Albums in this video that are classics, DAMN, 4:44, Culture. But I would say those are mid to lower end classics.
What’s up Connor! I absolutely love this take and strongly agree that the classics on this list are middle-lower tier classics… favorite album from 2017?
@@NFRPodcast that’s tough… I would have to say DAMN
Flower boy too
Flower Boy is definitely a classic. that album still has the most casual listeners talking about Tyler's evolution as an artist throughout his discography, who else do you see that with?
coming back to this 2 years later its still aging gracefully
@@nevohyams over the past year I’ve really got into Tyler’s music and now I love it.
DAMN presents a balance between conceptual direction and mainstream appeal. Even IB ( this international school curriculum) put it in the poetry category for English Literature so it can be taught in school. I graduated high school by then so I didn't get a chance to study it hahaha
If we’re talking 2017 classics I think the SATURATION trilogy by BROCKHAMPTON need to be in that conversation. I definitely think Without Warning deserves classic status, it’s still talked about as one of the best trap albums ever, it didn’t innovate but it refined everything to perfection.
Literally don’t see how people cannot see how DAMN is a classic. It fits every box. Literally every box to be a classic. Insanely commercially successful, critically acclaimed, won a Pulitzer Prize, huge singles, deep concept and lyrics, iconic music videos, made a huge impact, huge tour around the album.
It’s a guaranteed classic. Anyone saying otherwise is lying.
DAMN is a disappointment compared to his previous 2 albums.
@@thebadguytemp23 no shot. Has some of his best songs. Definitely slightly worse than the other 2 as a whole but i dont see how you can get an album like that and call it a disappointment
It sounds like so many other albums out there, no other albums sound like Good Kid M.a.a.d City or To Pimp a butterfly. It depends on your definition of a classic, but for me, I wouldn't consider it a classic. Out of the things on the list, only Flowerboy is a classic, so I have a very tough standard for a Classic.
its mediocre at best
L
awesome video, I added a lot of albums to my "must listen" list because of this, thank you.
Listen to Man on the Moon 1 you’ll never regret it
@@jsuxucjdmdkc2801 I have listened to it. And you’re right. I have not regretted it
Glad we can put you on🙏
Flower boy and DAMN are the two best from that year straight classics
If yall did this for 2015 there would be so much options but a few good ones would be:
TPAB (obviously)
Rodeo
GO:OD AM
Barter 6
At Long Last A$AP
If You're Reading This..
IDLSIDGO
Currents
Beauty Behind The Madness
Testuo & Youth
WATTBA
The Incredible True Story
B4.DA.$$
Maybe even TRAP SOUL?
Trapsoul is definitely a classic
At long last asap is for me one of the best hip hop Productions of all time
Also IYRTITL and Dark Sky Paradise
2015 would be a good year to do it for🙏
Better know NFR videos never miss because there all classics
Another day another Classic Daniel comment😎
I think ant is right when he says sometimes you just know something is going to be a classic. The first time i listened to blonde i knew it was going to be a classic.
Instant classics are rare!
Crazy how time flies and listening to some of these projects brings back memories
Classics are hard to define these days because everyone has different categories for what determines a classic but I would love to see another video like this for a different calendar year (2013, 2015, 2016, 2018 etc.) and for different artists like Kanye, Eminem, Drake, Kendrick and J. Cole
another solid video!
Can’t believe “17” by X wasn’t in this conversation. I don’t love it personally but it’s undeniably a very important album from 2017
wow i never realised how great 2017 was for rap, not to mention projects from other genres like Ctrl and Saturation II.
Amazing year
Damn and Flower Boy are definitely classics. I still go to these albums every now and then. Also these albums are saved on my Apple Watch in case my phone would die. 💛
Why is Big K.R.I.T.'s "4Eva is a Mighty Long Time" never mentioned in these conversations? It's my fav from 2017 besides "DAMN.", imo one of the best double albums in hip hop history with zero skips and also K.R.I.T.'s best work.
ideas for the next episode
Joey Bada$$ - 1999
Freddie Gibbs - Bandana
Young Thug - JEFFERY
Drake, Future - What A Time To Be Alive
KIDS SEE GHOSTS - KIDS SEE GHOSTS
Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs
A$AP Rocky - AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP
J. Cole - KOD
Isaiah Rashad - The Sun's Tirade
Tyler, The Creator - Igor
self titled, without warning, LUV is rage 2, culture, flower boy, damn, all had massive cultural impact and i or my friends all listen to these songs still
luv is rage 2 is definitely a classic, top 3 emo rap album
Favorite 2017 album?
@@NFRPodcast at the time it was culture then WW. nowadays self titled is my favorite
These long videos are so entertaining to watch🔥
Y’all should totally do the same for 2018! The scale of hip hop that year was just MASSIVE. Kamikaze, Carter V, Scorpion… man. Also keep killing it y’all 🤙🏽in love with your extensive vocabulary.
2018 would be a great year to do this for🙏 thank you for the love Joel!
You missed AABA by Joey, 4EIMLT by KRIT, No Dope on Sundays by Cyhi... 2017 was definitely a great year for rap
DAMN, Flower Boy and Culture I are all certified classics, my hot take would be The Never Story is also a classic.
Flower Boy is an absolute classic. That album sky rocketed Tyler's career beyond the fanbase he already had from the Odd Future days.
I agree about the fact we need some time (like half a decade at least) to define an album classic. But, you know certain albums will become classics right after you heard them for the first time. Like, for example, you knew GKMC was going to be a classic right after the first listen. That said, yeah, most of the album need time because they might sound dope but get old
What’s the most recent instant classic we got in your opinion?
@@NFRPodcast I think 2014 FHD or maybe TPAB
Just wanna say I been at work and been listening to y’all for hours. Great content, y’all got the subscribe from me. 😂
I wish they would’ve talked about the saturations
I personally believe Luv is rage 2 is a classic, I think it shaped what the underground is today, along with carti and a handful of others coming up in 2016 I feel had an impact on the underground artist we have today.
X’s debut album “17” is a classic. Fuck Love is one of the biggest streaming songs ever. Jocelyn Flores is one of the best emo rap songs ever. No skips in the track list. Influenced future artists and projects in the emo rap/acoustic hip-hop lane.
IMO I have only 6 new classics (because of my 5 year rule), Damn, 4:44, 4eva is a mighty long time, culture, Playboi Carti, and Flower Boy. Big fish theory, luv is rage 2 and without warning come close but can’t give it that status.
A narrative on an album is great, but I don't think it's necessary. Music is music, primarily it's supposed to sound good and if you can put together a playlist with individually great songs, I think you've succeeded. That's why More life is arguably my favourite Drake project, at least top 3 for me personally
Culture is a Classic for sure
Only Classic on this list?
Luv is rage 2 is definitely a classic in my opinion
yep
Best Uzi project?
4eva is a Mighty Long Time is definitely a classic
Couldn’t include everything but that album is amazing!
Damn shouldn’t even be debated about being a classic. It’s one of the best hip hop albums ever.
YES
DAMN > GKMC

4:44 one of like 3 albums that I still listen to cover to cover and still enjoy it today.
Waking up and listening to T shirt on my way to school life was good man
the poll was trippin bout culture. its nowhere near the best but its the most classic out of all these picks
I agree with your take on More Life. Too all over the place...even though had a lot of good songs.
Do you guys have any videos covering Barter6? It seems to me it’s never mentioned but deserves some coverage along with thuggers story.
I commented this at the start of the video like a BOZO
Great video idea! Would love to see a 2016 collective
You guys should do this for 2016 albums
Also, very excited for 2018... that will be next year, I guess?

More life is amazing!! As time passes it gets better and better. Very underrated
Bro I can’t understand why some ppl say DAMN isn’t a classic. So many layers to it….
I disagree hard with The Never Story and Without Warning. Both great albums and definitely classics
I’m really glad these hosts aren’t the typa people who think only lyrical shit can be classics 👏🏽
Say what you will, but LIR2 is a classic. XOTOUIFE, 20 minutes, neon guts, sauce it up, way life goes, dark queen, how to talk, I mean there’s like 1 skip.

More Life definitely isn't wtf
No but it’s a really good project and very slept on tbh
Yes this wasn’t a list of our favorite 2017 albums, just the ones we feel like get the most discussion and are recognized for defining that year!
I think 4:44 is setting the standard for "Dad Rap" and will be a point that many other artists look to in older age. 3k asked what we want him to rap aboht nowadays, why not take some inspiration from Jay and give some generational advice through a medium that the youth apreciate you for?

I kinda sucked my teeth a little bit as a Kendrick nerd when Lu said Cornrow Kenny instead of Kung Fu Kenny😂
Teenage fever, passion fruit and do not disturb alone make more life a classic let alone all the other great songs
4:44: Fantastic album, but in the realm of Jay's discography idk if it's a classic. My personal favorite of his though.
Damn.: My least favorite Kendrick album BUT it's definitely a classic from a cultural perspective. The massive singles, the album rollouts, the performances he had from this album.
Flower Boy: Absolutely. It was Tyler reaching the potential that he showed flashes of for years.
More Life: No. Had some classic songs on it like Passion Fruit, but not a classic project.
'uk flows on kmt' the only thing uk about that song is giggs. that flow was straight from look at me
definitely need to do 2016
4:44- CLASSIC,
NOT EVEN A CONVERSATION BRUH...EVEN QUESTIONING THAT IS LIKE BLASPHEMY
K.DOT - DAMN - CLASSIC
TYLER - FLOWER BOY - CLASSIC
MIGOS - CULTURE- CLASSIC
DRAKE - MORE LIFE - CLASSIC conceptually, it sparked the single era where artist make an album like playlist rather than a beginning, middle, and end
UZI - DOPE, not classic
21 - WITHOUT WARNING- Forever influenced flow patterns stylistically
J.I.D.- ANDERSON PAAK & SMINO are a lot better for the Neo-soul/Funk
PLAYBOICARTI- SOLID, not classic
VINCE STAPLES - BIG FISH THEORY - SOLID, BEAUTIFUL, EXPERIMENTAL, not classic, yet.
VINCE STAPLES BY VINCE STAPLES IS MY FAVORITE ALBUM BY HIM, BY FAR; flawless
Classic gets throw around so much these days, the waters seem to get muddied. In all honesty I think a classic no matter how acclaimed and respected an album is; comes from impact and global resonance
Facts there isn’t really a “classic” in this class tbh. A lot of really good projects, but nothing that’s high tier
Looking for album recommendations. I’ve listened to a shit ton of albums and I’m looking to expand my music library so lmk what your favorite albums are

Lets be honest Kendrick really won that Pulitzer from TPAB carry over
